Okay so this girl has popped and has been planted today (2/22/2019). I have an addiction to this beaut as this is my third time growing her. Insomnia has been riddling my life pretty hard lately and I have never slept more happily/ peacefully then after this girl has filled my lungs. It will be awhile until I have some natural medication but I think i'll sleep peacefully just knowing she's growing. Day 7 and she's a little burnt and off to a slow start but nothing the WCOG and BDM didn't experience.
Soil
I'm still rocking the foxfarm's froggy frog and ocean forest. I use a nutritional gradient to help pull the roots down. I typically use froggy frog for the top 2 to 3 inches of soil followed by a 4:1 ratio of froggy frog:ocean forest fro the next 4 inches, then 2:1 ratio of froggy frog: ocean forest for the next 4 inches, then 1:1 ratio and then just straight ocean forest. I lightly mix the top of the previous layer with the beginning of the new layer as I'm going to maintain a consistent gradient. The less nutrient dense (hot) soil is better for the seedlings and will be replenished with organic fertilizers when she's bigger.
Additives
Added about 1.5 to 2 quarts of perlite for the first time to keep the soil even lighter.
Calcium carbonate: about 2 tbs per grow bag.
Real growers recharge to create an optimal biological habitat for the roots
I'll also be including a CO2 system for the first time to further promote growth, but not until week 2 when she has more leaves to utilize the CO2
Ok so she is slow to start just like the WCOG and BDM but that could be a combination of the lighting system and (most likely) the soil being too hot. A couple of her leaves look like they got nutrition burn just like WCOG/BDM. So far the other 2 girls aren't showing any affects in terms of size and this second week stall seems to be a recurring thing right now. I expect her to pick up this week as she has been given some root boost and real growers recharge today (3/10/2019). I'm still keeping the light pretty far away to promote that initial stretch.
I am currently just using a DIY yeast/sugar set-up to improve CO2 levels in the closet until I can afford something more consistent. Also waiting on some money to come in to be able to measure the CO2 levels.
She is still slow on growing, but I think now that she's gotta a couple decent sized leaves she can start photosynthesizing enough energy to journeying upwards. Her soil, like the blue dream and WC OG, seems to be a little more compact and hard than I would have like it. I wasn't too happy with the other Fox Farms soils i bought due to its look/feel when I opened the bags. I am also still having trouble dialing in the new LED during seedling stage and seem to either have it too close or too far. I moved her up another foot closer to the light this week. I'm gonna be much more careful this upcoming round. I think she will finish with the Lemon AK, Zkittlez and tester strain even though she's 3 to 4 weeks ahead.
She has finally taking off with the light adjustment. I still think the poor quality of soil is affecting the WCOG, BDM, and blackberry's rate of growth as it tends to get hard after watering even with the amount of perlite I have in there. We will see in comparison to the SKittlez, Lemon AK, tester, and Mexican Airlines I got going that are in the same type of soil but better quality. I added some rejuvenated yeast sugar combo to increase the CO2 in the grow tent this week as well.
Well she's practically doubled in size this week which is awesome! I really like the way she is growing so far. She will be getting fed with Cellmax nutrients and Real Growers Recharge tomorrow. I tied her down after the pics to promote more side branching. You can see the 2 side branches have done really well with leaf tucking so far so I'm assuming she will respond well. She is just entering pre-flower now so next week she will be in flower for sure. I hope she demonstrates some lilac colors like the first Blackberry. So far I have had a dark purple and a pink as shown in the previous diaries. Finally feel like I have her dialed in.
I am super happy with how this girl is progressing. I love this strain. I can see little purple droplets in her so I know she is gonna be that deep purple color I was hoping for. I think letting the grow room drop to the mid 50s at night during preflower can epi-genetically trigger those lilac colors. She has grown 3 inches vertically even after losing about 6 inches during LST. I remember my first blackberry putting on height like that too. She's putting on a lot of bud sites. She was fed with cellmax nutrients at the beginning of the week. I won't feed her this week so that she continues to suck up nutrients from the soil and anything left over from last weeks feed. Just Recharge at a pH in the mid 6's. I moved her 4 inches from the light source to promote stretch. I am already looking forward to next weeks update.
Alright she put on another 4 inches and is still going strong. Keep adding those bud sites :). Those purples are really starting to shine through and she his quite the hairy girl. Just gave her Recharge this week to stimulate uptake of the nutrients already in the soil before I feed her a load of flower notes at the beginning of this week coming up.
She is lookin like an identical twin to my first blackberry and I love it. I love this strain. As an avid gardener, it's a beautiful flower just to have on display. She is moving along better than the WCOG and BDM even though she is in the same soil. No smell yet but I expect that unforgettable deep berry smell to kick in next week. I fed her the above ratio of nutrients today,
I can’t say enough about my love for this strain. Stunning looks, irresistible smell, and incredible smoke. I can’t wait to taste her she smells just like my first blackberry. That earthy sweet berry yankee candle type of smell. I’m addicted to growing her. My favorite strain to this day. Everything is going smoothly as she is fattening up. I’m gonna begin the slow fade on her and won’t be giving her much nutrients unless I think they’d be affective.
Hopin she doesn’t get stuck like the BDM and WCOG in this soil, which didn't want to grow much after this week. I'm hoping she continues to fatten like the first blackberry. I love how she blinds out the camera 😎
I’m thinking another 2 weeks for her she continues to drink well. She's the same bud structure as the second blackberry but the smell/taste of the first. I'll keep flushing her until she's bare. She's much darker in person but her trichomes white her out :)
This strain is one of the prettiest flowers I’ve seen in person. Love growing her. She wasn't as robust this round but I attribute that to the learning curve from LEDs to MH/HPS. I dont want to bash LEDs cuz i've seen some growers kill it with them.
Definitely a bed time smoke. She doesn't knock me out like the very first blackberry I grew but I can lay in bed and be happy/ relaxed enough to fall asleep. I have severe insomnia and mild to moderate narcolepsy so this strain is a must for me. I'd rather take a puff of her each night than be prescribed benzodiazepines. I need to order another round of her. I'll always have this strain on me as it started the passion for growing and the gateway to a restful sleep.
@Leeyum, haha. I will go easy on the nutes so i can get the Most out of the flavor on the little fellow.
I really like ure diaries! Will be fun to follow. My next grow is blackberry.
Have a Nice day 🙂
@Cellmax_Nutrients, I like your nutrients a lot and happy I won them from a previous journal. I have had no issues and great responses from the plants.
@Cellmax_Nutrients, thanks you guys. Is the Rootbooster basic? When I added it to my liquid the pH jumps up pretty high into the pH range of 9. Maybe I need to re-calibrate my meter
My blackberry stalled and was very sluggish to hop to it. 4 weeks of nothing then it went auto on me at a very disappointing height. Meanwhile my 1 week old moby dick has passed it up and is crushing it. I’ll let mine go just to see what happens but I can’t see more than a few grams coming from her
