Kirsten 6.3.25: Everyone who chose Northern lights from RQS, I'm doing it! I had another spare 8 Gallon pot. This time, I used new soil, freshly amended. I hope you follow along, I hope to see the soil difference and impact. Along with how they handle topping. My Gorilla Cookies has exploded since I topped her. So my plan is to just top both plants and compare. I know it's absolutely not scientific ๐Ÿ˜… but hey, I'm experimenting and having fun. Thanks for hanging out! ๐ŸƒโœŒ๏ธ

So far, so good! ๐ŸŒฑโœŒ๏ธ๐Ÿƒ 9.3.25: I have removed the heat mat, and also I had to remove the shell, it came off easily. So I topped last week, now this doesn't look right! ๐Ÿ˜… why is there new growth from the main stem? I topped my Gorilla Cookies and this wasn't the result. What did I do? What will the result be? Please indulge me. Thank you ๐Ÿ’š

The apex of the main stem, to top you cut the stem clean severing the xylem and phloem channels. There is no surprise, plants redistributed energy to side stems. Inside the apex of the crown there are mini versions of future growth all in smaller and smaller forms at the very peak of the apex like layers of a onion skin, if you cut precisely you can cut a fudge I missed 2,3,4 crowns deep, beauty of a FIM is the results are very random and can generate anywhere from 2,3,4 possibly 6 or 7 tops depending how the cut is made. Do a little Google for Mandelbrot set and watch a video, will give an idea of the infinity held within all life. Tis very hit or miss, I've done maybe 6 or 7 fims and I'd be no more confident in achieving it than the first time i tried its very random. Bright side it doesn't screw with apical dominance the same way as chopping the apex clean off either.

Kirsten Wow, this has been a wild week here! She is looking so good. She has perfect form, many tops. And is definitely winning against my FastBuds Mystery seed #1. Hands down my favourite plant, maybe... ever! It's absolutely perfect. Look at her! ๐Ÿ˜ A true dream come true... Now watch me mess this up! ๐Ÿ˜… Anyway so I fimmed, and ended up with 7 tops. Very happy with that. Training started, to begin to open up all of those tops. I used the LST clips to bend over the stems away from the plants centre. I did this with every branch. I water with 2 litres of dechlorinated water PH'd to 6.4 which I will add .5g Ecothrive Biosys to. I water about every 3-4 days, when the pots have dried sufficiently. This is really bad, but ironically hilarious. I updated my diary yesterday, saying the plant is perfect, I'm excited ๐Ÿ˜Š after that I snapped a main stem. Taped it up overnight, but had died, untaping it I noticed the stem it was attached to was cut. Then I snapped another! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Once dropped a beautiful plant onto concrete during a transplant to bigger pot, I got a little excited and didn't let the soil dry as much as I should have. I dropped her and snapped the main stem. Bust a few stems, she didn't recover and I was quote upset as it was first time, not so kuch at the mistake but the fact I didn't have tools or knowledge and was unable to provide the emergency room level of repairs needed right away. Sent me on a quest to learn. Now I keep emergency repair materials at hand ready to go, biggest key to any break is getting her propped back into position before she even knows a break happens. Faster the more chance of survival. Onwards and upwards Kirsten! Toke on!

Kirsten 6.4.25: I watered with 2ltrs of dechlorinated water PH'd to 6.4 with the following nutrients;- โ™ก 4ml Xpert Nutrients Cal-Mag amino acids โ™ก .75g Ecothrive Biosys Total PPM 880. NORTHERN LIGHTS: After the absolute disaster that occurred after my last update here, we have managed not to do any further damage! I did not put Grommets/ Eyelets in the pots and forgot until everything was planted. Obviously, it wasn't a possibility at that point! ๐Ÿ˜… I decided to make some little wire holders for the pot. I used some pieces of fleece, which I cut to size, then sewed them to specification. Afterwards, I used my glue gun to secure them to my pot. The soil does stick to the fleece and absorb water, so it may cause mould issues. If you're not careful. I could have used my felt, but fleece was closer at hand. Felt would have been better. I'm only using it as I forgot the eyelets this time around. So I threaded the wire through the holes, cut to size, and began to LST the plants branches into place. I made sure to water before doing the training this time, as I really don't want to snap anything else off of her ๐Ÿ˜ฌ only bending down the multiple tops to achieve an even canopy. I'm very pleased with how she has handled all of this stress like an absolute champion ๐Ÿ† Thanks for hanging out ๐Ÿƒ โœŒ๏ธ ๐Ÿ’š ๐Ÿ™‚

Kirsten 13.4.25: This week has been so busy in the garden! I forgot to take any notes, so I'll see what I can do from memory! ๐Ÿ˜… I watered several times this week, and I used Ecothrive Biosys with dechlorinated water PH'd to 6.4. I watered about 2 litres to each plant. 14.4.25: I have been super busy with all the other harvests in the past several days, so this is a little late. Northern lights was FIM'ed, and the growth has been nothing short of explosive. I have been using wire, clips and Bio stretch fabric plant ties to LST the plant. The plant has expanded past the 8 Gallon pot perimeter by a good amount. The plant is in the first week of flower. I'm hoping to keep the canopy even with my FastBuds Mystery seed grow as I need to be able to compare the plants accurately for the experiments. I did snap off a branch, and break a couple more. The plant is very resilient, and you wouldn't know anything happened at all. Training Techniques used this week are LST and Super-cropping. I watered on 13th and 14th with the following solution; 4 litres of dechlorinated water PH'd to 6.4 which contained: โ™ก 8 ml Xpert Nutrients Cal-Mag amino acids โ™ก 1/2 Teaspoon Mega Crop Part A by Greenleaf Nutrients. PPM: 1000. 2 litres were given on two consecutive days. I watered in a top dress, which I will add what I used here; but it was another mess up, I'm sure you'll be surprised to hear ๐Ÿ˜… I started using the Cal-Mag as there were signs of deficiency on my FastBuds Mystery seed #1, which is 3 days older and still smaller than this one. So it was a good sign for me to dose up for both plants. The tent is looking a little empty ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคซ๐Ÿ˜… Top dress: 4 gallons containing approximately: 50% Canna Terra Mix soil 25% Worm Castings 23% Perlite 2% Organic Dry Amendments, which were; โ˜† Ecothrive Life Cycle โ˜† Ecothrive Charge โ˜† Diatomaceous Earth โ˜† Ground Cinnamon โ˜† RHS Mycorrhizal Fungi granules I used the top dress amount for established plants for a pot size of 30L / 8 Gallons. Kirsten 16.4.25: I have retied the fabric ties again, as they're growing like crazy. Trying to open up the plant, to grow out as well as up. This will also create new colas. At this stage, I'm trying not to over fertilise like I did with the last grow. Focusing on Cal-Mag amino acids and Mega Crop Part A. The medium is my custom super soil, which is already fertilised with Ecothrive dry amendments. So I could just add water. However, as we've already run into deficiency, that would be careless. I find it easy to keep an eye on the plants and carefully inspect them daily to act quickly when issues arise. Learning how to determine the issue is what I'm still learning, which is the hard part ๐Ÿ˜… It's all fun though, and I'm really enjoying this grow with all the toppings and FIMs. So far so good! 21.4.25: Hope everyone had a great 420! Northern lights is absolutely beautiful, great structure. I'm determining when to relax the LST as we are now in the beginning of week 3 flower. I do have height. However, I'd like to keep it reasonable. You never know when they will stop growing. I'm not really adjusting any ties since the last time, but I have added an LST clips as one of the middle tops was much talker than the others. I am trying very hard to exercise some much necessary self restraint here! ๐Ÿ˜… it is becoming increasingly difficult! I have also noticed that there are signs of Nitrogen excess. Maybe 2 leaves have very thin overlapping blades. Instead of Mega Crop Part A and Cal-Mag amino acids, I will use Bud explosion PK booster with the Cal-Mag. This will make the N5 the only Nitrogen being given. It still may be too much, but will monitor closely to see the effect this change will make, if any. Balancing the nutrients is very important for me to learn, and it's going to be an ongoing process. I watered today with 3 litres of dechlorinated water PH'd to 6.4 with the following nutrients: โ™ก 1/2 Tsp of Bud Explosion PK booster by Greenleaf nutrients โ™ก 5ml Cal-Mag amino acids by Xpert Nutrients 23.4.25: Plant seemed to be drinking heavily, so I watered again with 3 litres of dechlorinated water PH'd to 6.3 with;- โ™ก 2.5ml Cal-Mag amino acids by Xpert Nutrients, and โ™ก Ecothrive Biosys 1/8 tsp. I removed the plant ties and retied the plant after watering. Less ties are necessary as the plant has moulded and stayed in that structure. 25.4.25: Northern Lights was much overdue for a retie of the fabric ties. After this session of LST, the plant is absolutely huge. I really could easily fill the tent with just her. The fact that this plant could fill out a 4ftยฒ space absolutely proves that autoflowering strains can outdo photoperiods. This particular strain, as well as my RQS Fat bananas, have been an absolute dream to grow. They take training like they're craving it. ๐Ÿ˜ Thanks for checking out my diary and hanging out ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ’šโœŒ๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ˜Š

RQS Northern Lights autoflower, this will probably be the last time I adjust the fabric ties, as they're now well in to flower. Keeping the canopy as even as possible. 29.4.25: RQS Northern Lights has taken very quickly to the readjustment of the fabric ties. Within an hour, the plant had already grown back towards the light. That's always so crazy to me. I watered 3 litres 2 days ago, and I'm not going to water again until it has dried. I suspect that will be at the end of the week. The larger pots are a learning curve with trying to water adequately but not too much. I don't think that I've ever overwatered, I never water to run off. Kirsten 30.4.25: This worked out very nicely ๐Ÿ‘Œ I just found Ecothrives' new, Trace! I was looking for Cal-Mag with no NPK. I came across this, I'm genuinely so excited to get using this! Ecothrive has the best products, hands down. As fate would have it, the plants are looking pretty dry! I'm going to be watering with the Trace and Biosys. Let's see what happens ๐Ÿ˜ 6 litres of dechlorinated water PH'd to 6.1 contained: โ™ก 3ml of Ecothrive Trace โ™ก 1/4 Tsp (2.4ml) Ecothrive Biosys The plants received 3 litres of this feed each. PPM 475 PH 6.0. So after I watered, i decided to tie down a very large branch that had grown significantly taller than the rest of the canopy. It decided to bend instead. Luckily, it didn't snap. The outer membranes are all intact and unbroken. So I guess it needed a supercrop instead! ๐Ÿ˜… I'm not worried at all, I just need to remember when I'm moving the pots around. Otherwise, it certainly will snap! ๐Ÿคž Let's see how we're looking in a few days after the first Ecothrive Trace application! 1.5.25: I mixed a foliar feed with my new Ecothrive Trace. I filled a 250ml spray bottle with dechlorinated water PH'd to 6.0 with 4ml Ecothrive Trace. I used the entire bottle in 3 plants throughout the course of the day. The fan is very strong, so it didn't take long to dry. However, I did keep the lights dimmer to ensure no leaves were burnt. Additionally, I spent more time than I care to admit massaging the foliar spray into the leaves ๐Ÿ˜… I also moved the LED lights up as Northern Lights is still stretching. Par was about 600-700. Which may be too much. I'll keep an eye on it. I also watered with 1.5 litres of dechlorinated water PH'd to 6.0 to Northern Lights. I added 1/2 Tsp of Sea K(elp) by Greenleaf nutrients. PPM was 645. 2.5.25: I watered 1 litre today. With Greenleaf Nutrients Bud Explosion PK booster 1/2 Tsp dissolved in dechlorinated water PH'd to 5.9. PPM came out high at 1300, so I watered another litre through just plain, PH'd to 6.2. 30.4.25: This worked out very nicely ๐Ÿ‘Œ I just found Ecothrives' new, Trace! With Greenleaf Nutrients Bud Explosion PK booster 1/2 Tsp dissolved in dechlorinated water PH'd to 5.9. PPM came out high at 1300, so I watered another litre through just plain, PH'd to 6.2. 5.5.25: FastBuds Mystery seed #1 is focusing on bud building. There are certainly chunky buds beginning to form here! ๐Ÿ˜ She has pretty well stopped stretching, and so she's shorter than Northern Lights, which is still growing vertically, this is a little unfortunate as they're no longer a Sea Of Green. Unless Northern Lights is a tidal wave ๐Ÿ˜… So because the canopy is no longer uniform, the lighting is difficult to dial in. Which has never been my strong point. Her leaves are still very dark. I'm going to top dress with Ecothrive Life Cycle, but because of the darkness of leaves, I won't add the Ecothrive Charge. Which is mainly more vegetative growth needs. Which will contain more nitrogen, which we certainly don't need any more of at this stage. Plant top dressed with; โ™ก 2 Tbs of Ecothrive Life Cycle โ™ก 1 Cup Worm Castings โ™ก 1 Cup Canna Coco โ™ก 1.25 Cups Perlite I watered in with 2 ltrs of dechlorinated water PH'd to 6.3 containing .25g of Ecothrive Biosys. This next week will just be monitoring of excess/ deficiency of nutrients and probably another foliar spray of the new Ecothrive Trace. I have removed a few fan leaves at the lower canopies. As well as removing all the LST clips. Next week, we might remove all the fabric ties too, I'll see how we're looking. That's pretty much it! Kirsten 7.5.25: I retied down the branches on RQS Northern Lights auto. I had to clean the tent, so the opportunity had to be taken, I hope not to have to move them again. I ended up snapping a small branch off another plant ๐Ÿ˜– She is looking so big out of the tent, and even bigger than I thought! Now, having readjustmed, the fabric ties, and she is looking even larger still. This really is an absolute giant of a plant! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ I really am struggling to get them all in, I think the 8 gallon pots were a definite factor in that. They certainly are great for getting big plants, but be prepared if you have a small space. She's still stretching and not really focusing on her bud development in these mid flowering weeks. I think we will be in for a long haul with this lady. I hope she doesn't get too much bigger. I watered some bloom nutes after I top dressed, with Mega Crop Part A by Greenleaf Nutrients. I watered 3.2 litres PPM:745 PH:6.0. This time, I'm going to keep the top dressing moist. So as not to kill all the beneficial microbes. Other than that, I will wait until the pots are light again. Overall, she is doing great, I wish she had stretched a little more evenly to catch up in height. I just can't even out the canopy anymore. I'll leave it and hope she'll sort herself out ๐Ÿ˜… I'm very excited to see what happens next! This is going to be crazy whatever happens! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‹ 8.4.25: Northern lights had dried out significantly, so I watered with 2 litres of dechlorinated water PH'd to 6.4. Containing per litre: โ™ก 1/4 tsp of Greenleaf nutrients Sea K(elp). PPM: 800 PH: 6.4 I don't want the top dress to dry out too much, and the plants are starting to drink much more. 9.5.25: It's a necessity to keep the soil moist. That means I need to water more often now. Today I watered with 1.5 litres of dechlorinated water PH'd to 6.4 which contained: โ™ก 1/5 tsp of Sea K(elp). By Greenleaf nutrients โ™ก 1/4 tsp Ecothrive Biosys. PPM: 564 PH: 6.4 12.5.25: Northern Lights has been srayed with the foliar spray and all symptoms have resolved. Due to having a few leaves burnt with that, I've decided to use the Ecothrive Trace in the water instead. It left some orange spots of damaged leaves. I think we have stopped stretching, so the sooner, the better. I keep getting my watering can caught in them all, and it was only a matter of time before I ended up snapping more branches off ๐Ÿ˜… The fewer things in my way, the better ๐Ÿคซ 15.5.25: I watered today as the pot had dried out almost. The plant was watered with dechlorinated water PH'd to 6.5 with the following nutrients per 6.5 litres; โ™ก 7ml Trace by Ecothrive โ™ก 1/2 Tsp Sea K(elp) by Greenleaf nutrients The plants received the amounts below. HULKBERRY: 1l FASTBUDS: 2l NORTHERN LIGHTS: 3.5l I am not giving any further nitrogen at this stage. They had a couple of doses in the past week or so. I'm sure they don't need any more. So, I'm just using the kelp as it's packed full of goodness and high in potassium. I also suspect an excess of phosphorus. So I'm also leaving that out for the time being. There are still some red stems on the plants. added the Ecothrive trace for the last few waterings. I'm hoping it will resolve without any further intervention. 16.5.25: I watered Northern Lights with 3ltrs of dechlorinated water PH'd to 6.4 with: โ™ก 1/2 Tsp Sea K(elp) by Greenleaf nutrients โ™ก 7ml Trace by Ecothrive Measurements per 6.5ltrs. PPM: 670 PH: 6.4 17.5.25: I watered again today with 2ltrs of the above PH'D to 6.2. Parameters remaining the same. The plant is increasingly thirsty, so the waterings have again needed to be increased. As we're reaching deep into flowering, this is par for the course. I'm mostly using coco, perlite worm castings. Etc. So it's very easy for my pots to dry out. I need to keep on top of it. As the pots dry out, the microbes are lost, and so keeping everything moist and healthy is imperative. That's why I add Ecothrive Biosys regularly to ensure I keep up with the microbial life in the soil biology. To avoid PH lockout. 18.5.25: I watered again, with the same parameters as yesterday. Instead of Sea K, I used Ecothrive Biosys: 1/2 Tsp/6.5l PPM: 550 PH: 6.4 Thanks for checking out my diary and hanging out ๐Ÿ’šโœŒ๏ธ ๐Ÿƒ ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐ŸŒฑ
