nope. Defoliation is mostly bro-science as far as doing it just to do it (on schedule without thought) Read "to defoliate or not..." on cocoforcannabis.com. In fact, read all of their guides and articles as you have time. Anytime it contradicts somethign you read in a forum or elsewhere, purge that bro-science from your thoughts, lol. so much anecodote out there is based on nonsense, defoliation is defnitely one of them.
There should be an extremely good reason to remove a leaf. Leaves are responsible for multiple functions in the plant beyond just absorbing light. Co2 intake for one, and that is your limiting factor. reducing co2 intake is almost impossible to overcome with some other benefit from doing so. it's going to be a net-negative removing leaves 99% of the time. This plant is so lanky, it is imopssible to justify.
This plant needs more light. It's quite weak and lanky. The node spacing at top is better, but yeah maybe getting slightly too close. Hard to be 100% from a still image. You probably want to keep that light closer than you did this cycle.. really you need to replace it with a proper grow light.
You can 'break' the stem to shorten up the plant. Sometimes you need to to weaken it first - roll between fingers to soften a spot on stem, then bend it down without severing the branch. The more rigid/brittle the stem is the greater need for that first step. some you can just bend down without severing the branch. You may need to support it, initially, but after 24-48 hours you'll more likely have to hold it down as it tries to grow upward again.
Figure the top portion will bend back upward, so bend it down 5-6" below your target max height. The top 5-6" will bend back upward within a few days.
This is quite stressful for the plant, so it's something to avoid, but when you have to do it, you do it. Keeping the light closer or getting a stronger light will cut down on that excessive vertical growth. That will help a bit, if running out of vertical space. May need to top or LST, if it continues to outgrow your space.. or a better space to use is in the cards.
