Blacksabbath96 I sprouted a Granny Candy feminized seed about a week after the NL5 because the 4th Northern Lights seed didn’t germinate. I wanted a better chance of having at least 2 female plants. Great growth early on. Just watering them occasionally with a solo cup of dechlorinated water

Blacksabbath96 Transplanted to 1 gallon. The pictures are from March 23 and 27 2025. The Northern Lights #5 babies are showing their indica lineage with broad leaves and tight node spacing, while the granny candy tries to slowly catch up. I found out that at least one of my NL5 plants is female because of preflowers with pistils appearing.

Blacksabbath96 Found female preflowers on the NL #5 in the middle. Found male preflowers on the one in the back. I started to LST the Granny Candy as well.

Blacksabbath96 Transplanted both of my female Northern Lights #5 to 15 gallon fabric pots of Coast of Maine soil from the previous runs. Had to buy soil for the Granny Candy which had to wait another week for transplant. Put up trellis for now. Unsure if I’ll take it down or keep it up. Put the plants in the taller tent

Blacksabbath96 Topped and cloned the top off of one of the NL#5 on 4/25/25. It will be a cool comparison of LST vs Topping and it is being done with the two plants of the same strain and one of a different strain. The Granny Candy and the Northern Lights on the right are untopped plants and have just been bent over using plant ties, whereas the NL5 in the middle of the tent has been topped and I will only use light lst on it such as bending the branches down manually by hand and letting them return naturally. Transplanted Granny Candy on 4/28/25

Blacksabbath96 Noticed the leaves yellowing a bit so I got right on it. I used FOOP Mist for 3 days, which is an OMRI listed foliar spray containing fish manure, fish emulsion, kelp, calcium, magnesium, and silica. The difference is actually impressive. The plants are bushier, greener, and bigger. I also have been watering with worm casting tea to ensure my soil is actively living. The Granny Candy is seemingly the slowest vegging plant I’ve ever grown, but I’m hopeful it will take off soon. I would actually flower the other two at this size but for now I don’t mind waiting for a nice even canopy. None of these plants should stretch a lot once in flower and we have lots of room to grow.

Blacksabbath96 Did some light defoliation and continued lst on all the plants. I’ve been bending the branches down and letting them come back up every day. I also have continually been tying down the main stalk of the Granny Candy and non topped NL5. I knew the topped NL5 may end up with a more desirable structure and it’s honestly not behind enough for me to denounce topping plants, if anything it looks amazing. So going forward I’ll do more topping depending on the side branching. I think had I topped a less desirable plant it wouldn’t have been so uniform but also would like to say the cloned top did root which is really exciting. I fed worm tea once and regular water the rest of this week. The NL are not heavy drinkers nor do they seem to react negatively to low moisture in the soil. Definitely acts like an Afghan with some tropical properties. My experience with HSC varieties is that they are heavy drinkers, but Granny Candy is a week behind so it basically drinks the same amount at the moment. Beautiful plants, I’m proud of this grow so far

Blacksabbath96 The granny candy is nice and bushy now. Loving the vigorous growth from these. Not long till flower now. I’ll probably flip them in a week or two. I took some clones off the rightmost NL5. Plan to take a few from the GC as well

Blacksabbath96 Flipping lights to 12/12 today 5/26. Took a single clone from GC. The average canopy height is 20 inches but the biggest plant is 24 inches. If untrained, the untopped plants would probably be more like 3-4 foot plants by now. I added a fan to increase air flow to the right, but of course they make the wires extremely short on clip fans for some reason so I had to make due with keeping it on the left side for now. This works though as the inline fan is on the top left so it creates a circle of air. Excited to see flowers. I top dressed with stonington blend plant food, epsom salts, and my guinea pig’s droppings. Free organic fertilizer is awesome. Never thought to use it till now. But I like the “circle of life” aspect of it, and the plants seem to like it. Plan to top dress with fish bone meal this week and apply a worm tea to water it in. I just air stone my tapwater in my water jug till dechlorinated which usually is done in 12-14 hours and then add worm castings in coffee filters and molasses and water a day or two later.

Blacksabbath96 Day 14 flower today 6/9. This week I just did some light defoliation and watered the plants and let them dry back a bit, as well as turned up ppfd to the 700-850 range. This weekend I’ll probably do a worm tea and more fish bone meal. Temps got into the high 80s outside and so did the tent at times, so I’ll definitely add my window ac to the lung room by July. These higher temps are good for early flower but I want to enhance the trichomes and reduce the chance of mold with temps in low 70s F and 40-50 rh by mid-late flower

Blacksabbath96 Day 21 today. Plants grew beautifully this week. Around day 14 I cleaned up last week’s skirt a bit in the middle of the plants. I topped off the GC soil with a gallon more of soil since I noticed the level went down after watering the newer soil in. The plants are taking off this week, I believe the stretch is over and they are focused on bud production. Already seeing some frost on the NL5 and the GC. Super excited to smell the terpenes. Currently when I rub a sugar leaf, I get a sweet candy like smell off the Granny Candy and a more skunky/earthy scent off the NL5. For week 3 I’m top dressing fish bone meal and doing a casting tea in a day or two. Super happy to see these plants thriving in early flower, the first half of flower is probably the most important stage of growth to ensure you’re doing your best to grow a good yield of potent cannabis. I noticed some springtails coming back from last year. Hadn’t seen them all winter. I’ll definitely have to watch my waterings to make sure they don’t get out of control, I really don’t mind them so much as long as they are under control, since they do more good than harm. If I have to I could add beneficial insects to control them, but so far they’re not too bad.
