drakkon Two Epsilon F1 seeds from Royal Queen Seeds planted directly in FoxFarm Happy Frog potting soil. A small amount of mycorrhizae was added to the seed holes before sowing. The seeds sprouted on the third day, and now the young seedlings are off to the races. I recently started a Northern Light Auto (no diary) in a BudCup from BudTrainers, and have since transplanted it into a larger container. I was pleased enough with how the cup worked and with the condition of the plant's roots that I decided to sow these Epsilon F1 seeds in BudCups, too. I've used Air Pot propagation cells in the past, and they also work great. I don't feel strongly that one performs better than the other, and I will happily use either type in the future. These two plants will grow near my Milky Way F1 and Medusa F1, under the same Iongrid S22 lamp (mounted under an electric-powered standing desk). The Epsilons may also get a little natural sunlight, too, via south-facing windows in the same office where my lamp resides. I'll move them to the window manually when the sun is shining, and while they still remain small enough to move easily. I expect I will have harvested the Milky Way and Medusa by the time the Epsilons start competing for space under the lamp.

drakkon The Epsilon F1 seedlings are still alive, and both are just starting to sprout their third sets of leaves. The past week, they received a small amount of water every few days (no fertilizer yet). As of now, they sit about 24" away from the lamp, a little off to the side. This coming week, I'll inch them closer each day to gradually increase the light level. I haven't bothered using the "push up" feature of the starter cups to check on roots yet.

drakkon The Epsilon sisters are 15 days old now and seem to be doing fine. One has longer internodes and is a little taller than the other (about 4" compared to 3"). A few leaves on both plants exhibit faint mottling, which I will monitor. The taller one has pre-flowers on its third and fourth nodes, whereas the shorter one does not. Sometime this week, I will inspect their roots to determine if they're ready for transplanting into their final containers. I'm pretty sure they will be ready within a week.

drakkon The smaller of my two Epsilon F1s caught up to the other this week, and they are now nearly identical in height and branch development. The shorter one also produced pre-flowers on nodes 3 & 4, just like the taller one did a few days prior. On day 18, I carefully transplanted both plants into their final containers (air pot; yellow size; 9.2 L). During transplantation, I sprinkled mycorrhizae onto their exposed roots and into the new soil. After transplantation, I moved them further from the lamp for about 36 hours before gradually moving them back closer. The plants showed no signs of transplant shock, and they continued growing quite vigorously to a height of eight inches by day 22. This past week (& this update) will be their last vegetative week I suspect. The main tops and a few other growing tips are starting to look like early flowers. I hope they stretch a lot and gain some size before they're flowering fully. I pruned the branches and leaves growing from their first nodes, but otherwise performed no training. Looking ahead, I do not plan to top either plant for this grow.

drakkon My pair of Epsilon F1s are proceeding almost exactly as described in Royal Queen Seeds' write-up of the strain: small, vigorous, and uniform. The two plants are almost completely identical in size and shape, and both appear happy and healthy. Despite their small size, they surged in height and development as they underwent their early-flower stretch this past week. They started flowering earlier than most of the autos I've grown recently, so I'm glad I decided not to top them. Going by the shape both plants are taking, I expect their main tops will comprise the bulk of their yields. I pruned a few shoots off the lowest sites on the lower branches (minor lollipopping). They have not received any fertilizer yet.
