🛒 Chemical Shopping List (August–September)
1. Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) – 10 kg
▸ For calcium & magnesium extraction, pH regulation, fermentation processes
2. Citric Acid – 10 kg
▸ To neutralize lye solutions, create calcium/magnesium citrate, adjust pH
3. Calcium Citrate – 1 kg
▸ Readily available calcium source (backup if skipping milk/eggshell extraction)
4. Magnesium Citrate – 1 kg
▸ Readily available magnesium source (backup if no homemade extract)
The FERMAKOR BASE SYSTEM is just a simple DIY way to make your own liquid N-P-K extracts using fermentation and KOH. Each bottle gives you one key nutrient—Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), or Potassium (K)—made from basic stuff like kitchen scraps and old plant bits.
✅ Planning to kick this off between August–September
✅ Recipes ain’t final—gonna tweak and improve as it goes

yan402 FERMAKOR BASE SYSTEM – KOH VERSION ⚓ (Batch #1)
Two months ago I posted the first draft of the FERMAKOR BASE SYSTEM (KOH version) — a DIY nutrient line split into clean mono-bottles (N, P, K). That was the recipe sheet stage.
Today we move into FERMAKOR 2.0 → the first live hydrolysate brew. Instead of separating each nutrient, I’m loading one strong composite batch to test in real conditions.
Ingredients (Batch #1):
Salad mix: 68 g
Pak choi: 92 g
Frozen spinach: 285 g
Sardines (rinsed): 50 g
Human hair: 8 g
Coffee grounds: 564 g
Total biomass: 1,067 g into ~5 L water
Base: Dissolved KOH (overshot, 80 g) → then layered in greens, fish, hair, and coffee.
Process notes:
Foam from proteins + oils = normal, expected saponification.
Coffee grounds instantly darkened the liquor and boosted N/K/Mg load.
Hair floats, will slowly hydrolyze into long-release nitrogen + sulfur.
Overshoot on KOH → will dilute/split to target 15–20 g/L equivalent before neutralizing with citric acid (final pH ~6.0–6.5).
⚗️ Aim: to create a full-spectrum veg base in one go — fast N/K from greens, P/Ca from fish, slow-release N+S from hair, strong N/K/Mg + organics from coffee. Built-in wetting from natural soaps.
🌱 Test plan: Will only apply to one plant, starting at 1–2 ml/L after neutralization, and stepping up carefully. Updates will be irregular (daily weekly).

yan402 📓 GrowDiaries Log – Day 2
FERMAKOR BASE SYSTEM – KOH VERSION ⚓ (Batch #1)
Good morning gromis 🌞
Gray weather in Berlin today, but inside the bucket things are moving way faster than expected. Since yesterday the reaction has already chewed through most of the biomass — what’s left is almost pure liquid now. That shows just how strong this mix really is.
Observations:
Foam and breakdown happening super quick.
Smell has shifted — not as strong as day one, but nastier. Ammonia edge + chemical note, with some earthy undertone.
Definitely effective, it already looks like a nutrient product instead of scraps.
Safety note: Should only be handled with great care, don't be like me lmfao, wear goggles gloves and a hazmat suit if available, note I did use full gear when I was mixing it.
🌱 Reflection:
Honestly, it looks like something I could have bought off a store shelf. Impressive how fast KOH eats everything — it already feels like a usable base. I’ll give it a week to see if it finishes eating all the solids, but most of it is gone already.
@kohlrabi,Thank you growmie 🙏
If I don't get a job soon I'll have to postpone the whole thing though 😭 it's not expensive but to get the material cheap I have to buy in bulk.
See you around and thank you for dropping by ✌️❤️
I've been doing alot of reading into home made concoctions. Appreciate u sharing this one , sounds more direct/doable then some nonsense I've come acrossed lol.
@Targona, Just playing around trying things, no guarantee it will work as it is supposed to lol, I already did the first mistake today and used too much potassium Hydroxide, seems to work well though, most of the organics are already liquid, kinda scary actually, very potent stuff.
Thanks for dropping by growmie 🙏 ♥️ ✌️
✌️♥️
