This week had its ups and downs. Did some heavy defoliation on shorty (right) on Sunday and lollipoped it as well, went well and am pleased with the results. While I was had her out of the tent I added a couple more bamboo sticks to bring it in tighter, this allowed me to move the one on the left under the light more. Going to be doing some more defoliation on stretch (what I've started calling the one on the left). Having the light slightly off center to the right has really started to show, I'm fairly that's why Stretch got that nickname, going to have to address that for the next grow.
Had a lightbulb moment and decided to download a Lux Meter for my phone, Android - Lux Light Meter, and discovered that shorty needed to be raised up. Built some small braces from lego and used another tray upside down to raise her up about 5 inches, she seems to really like it. Can't recommend this enough for people that are running HPS, not exactly sure how it works with other lights.
Discovered some nitrogen toxicity in the girls, shorty seems to be affected more than stretch. I've been so diligent about night time that I haven't seen the girls in natural light so I missed the dark leaves and only noticed the claw. The last watering they both got ph'd water with no nutrients, I gave them twice as much as normal so about 7 - 8 liters instead of their 4.5-ish. For their next watering, I'm going to stick with just ph'd water and then cut MGB to 50% and full strength on Bud Candy, Big Bug & Bud Factor X - they don't have nitrogen in them. I'm hoping this addresses the issue but shorty got her first just water yesterday and already looks much better.
Dusted off an old DSLR and played with the white balance so I get some decent pictures of the ladies so sadly there won't be a side-by-side comparison this week but next weeks will be much better and show actual colours :) very happy about that.
The week went well, the girls responded to the mini flush and seem to have bounced back and are no longer showing signs of nitrogen toxicity. Really started to see some trichomes this week so that's got me pretty excited. There's a pretty faint smell now which is a green-ish skunky smell, very pleased with that. I've decided to leave the MGB at 1/2 strength and continue with the supplements at full strength to keep the N under control.
Also picked up a Lux meter off Amazon and I need to move one of Shorty's colas or I fear some light burn or bleaching. Stretch also has one that needs to move away but it's not so bad. It's going to be tricky to move shortys cola because she has stiffened up pretty good so I might end up having to rotate her, we will see.
This week I pulled shorty out to get to the back side so I can move some branches around to allow more light to the lower bud sites. While I had her out I noticed clear signs of N tox on the back side of the plant so I'm going to cut all nutrients for the next few waterings but Bud Factor X, Bud Candy & Big Bud don't have any N in them so I'm not sure if I should still add those or not, guess I'll play it by ear and find out. Stretch is starting show signs of the claw too so for good measure I'm going to cut nutrients to her for her next water and make sure I get a good run off on her too. Aside from the N tox I'm overall very happy with this week's progress and am really looking forward to seeing how she responds to flushing out some of the N.
I also notice some slight light burn starting on shorts colas so whipped out the trusty lux meter and the were getting over 80,000 lux so I lowered the pot and pulled them out of the way a bit and got them down to about 70,000 lux. I'll continue to watch for further signs and adjust if necessary.
One of my girls is showing signs of N tox so I'm going to drop nutrients for the next week and just feed plain PH'd water until a good runoff.
My question is; during this week should I still be giving Bud Factor X, Big Bud, and Bud Candy? There isn't N in those.
This week the girls were on an all water diet to combat the N tox. They seem to have responded to it and even bulked up a bit over the week. This coming week I'm going to give them nutrients again starting small and working up, probably start at 25% for the MGB and 75% for the boosters and take it from there. Hopefully, I've seen the end of the N tox!
Thanks, man, with Canada making it legal it seemed like a no brainer and now with the wealth of information and resources available it's like starting the first time all over again. I love it!
They are looking really healthy. 💪🏽🙂👍🏼
Nice bud sites coming up.
I am on 2nd grow. Growing 7 wdding cakes and 1 kosher kush. The wedding cake seems quite a resilient plant.
And welcome back to growing. 😎🌱
