DaveJohnson Week 4 of Veg is going pretty good.
Gorilla Z #1- the strongest plant so far. The growth has been going well however I did have some yellowing leaves at the bottom and the top leaves starting to get the lime green/pale color. I ended up defoliating the lower leaves and gave her a feeding of the general hydroponic trio (micro, grow, and bloom) and Cal Mag. 1/2 tsp of each nute for the feeding. Shes starting to transition to pre-flower.
Gorilla Z #2-veg is in full swing. I gave her the same nute as the other plants. Hopefully, we donât have any yellowing of leaves for the upcoming week.
Heisenberg- plant is looking good so far. Better than the last run of this strain. My last run I topped the plant early on but I felt like that stunted her growth. This time I just let her veg out. However I did notice some spots on a couple of leaves. Iâm hoping the nute mix with cal mag helps alleviate that issue
Switched the light schedule to 20/4

DaveJohnson Week 5: Veg/Pre-Flower Transition - The Girls Are Thriving! đ±
We're at a pivotal point in the grow, with one plant making the leap into pre-flower while the others continue their vegetative explosion. Here's how each lady is progressing:
Gorilla Z #1 - Leading the Charge into Pre-Flower
She's officially transitioning! Over the past two weeks, Gorilla Z #1 has been showing those telltale pre-flower signs. Last week's strategic defoliation and light lollipopping have set her up beautifully for what's coming next.
Feeding Schedule:
First watering: 10 cups plain water, pH 6.5
Second watering: Full strength nutrients
1 tsp General Hydroponics Trio
1/2 tsp Cal-Mag
1/2 tsp Liquid Kool Bloom (getting her ready for flower!)
pH adjusted to 6.8
The slightly higher pH on the nutrient feed helps with calcium and magnesium uptake during this critical transition phase.
Heisenberg - Vegetative Powerhouse
This girl responded beautifully to last week's light defoliationâthe growth has been explosive! She's still in late veg, building that structure we'll need for heavy bud production.
Feeding Schedule:
Friday: 8 cups plain water, pH 6.5
Monday: 8 cups nutrient solution
1/2 tsp General Hydroponics Trio
1/2 tsp Cal-Mag
pH 6.5
The lighter nutrient concentration is keeping her growing strong without pushing her into flower before she's ready.
Gorilla Z #2 - Catching Up Fast
Also in late veg, and just like Heisenberg, she's put on impressive growth following her defoliation. These autoflowers really respond well to strategic pruning!
Feeding Schedule:
Monday only: 8 cups nutrient solution
1/2 tsp General Hydroponics Trio
1/2 tsp Cal-Mag
pH 6.5
She didn't need watering as frequently this weekâalways good to let the soil dry out between waterings for optimal root development.

DaveJohnson Week 6: Late Veg & Flowering - Learning Through Challenges đȘ
This week brought some hard lessons in watering discipline and plant management. Not every week goes perfectly, and that's part of the learning process. Here's the real, unfiltered update:
Gorilla Z #1 - Overwatering & Recovery Mode
She's in flower and was progressing well until I made a critical mistake this week. After defoliating some of the lower bud sites on Wednesday to improve airflow, I fed and then re-watered too soon.
Feeding Schedule:
First feeding: 10 cups nutrient solution
1 tsp General Hydroponics Trio
1/2 tsp Cal-Mag
1/2 tsp Liquid Kool Bloom
pH 6.7
Wednesday: Defoliated lower buds,
Sunday: re-watered with same mix (mistake!)
The Problem: Overwatering led to rust spots appearing on the leavesâclassic signs of stress and potentially a lockout from saturated soil preventing proper oxygen to the roots.
Recovery Steps Taken:
Treated with Monterey Neem Oil (for any potential secondary issues)
Dropped tent humidity to 40% to help soil dry out faster
Now waiting for soil to properly dry before next watering
Lesson learned: Let the soil dry between waterings, even during flower. The plant will tell you when it needs waterâlift the pot!
Gorilla Z #2 - Severe Overwatering Incident
This one hurts. She was doing beautifully in late veg, and I got too aggressive with watering.
What Happened:
Monday: 8 cups with 1/2 tsp GH Trio + light defoliation â
Sunday: Added 10 cups of water (BIG MISTAKE)
Way too much water, way too soon. She's been wilted since Sundayâthe classic droopy, sad look of an overwatered plant.
Recovery Steps Taken:
Removed the worst affected leaves to reduce stress on the plant
Treated with Neem Oil as a precaution
Allowing soil to dry out completely before next watering
Monitoring closely for recovery signs
Lesson learned: 10 cups was far too much, especially after just watering on Monday. Should have waited at least 3-4 days and checked soil moisture first.
Heisenberg - New Home, New Hope
The survivor! After losing one of my other plants to an unfortunate dog incident (RIP), Heisenberg got promoted to the Spider Farmer tent.
Feeding Schedule:
Monday: 8 cups
1/2 tsp GH Trio
1/2 tsp Cal-Mag
pH 6.5
The Silver Lining: She's doing well and now has more space to stretch out. Sometimes good things come from unfortunate situations!
Key Observations & Hard Lessons
This week was a masterclass in what NOT to do:
Don't re-water immediately after defoliation - Plants need recovery time and less water when they have fewer leaves transpiring
Lift your pots - The weight test is your best friend. Light = needs water. Heavy = wait
Patience is crucial - When in doubt, wait another day before watering
Overwatering is worse than underwatering - Plants can recover from slight drought much faster than oxygen-starved roots
Recovery Plan:
No watering until pots feel light
Monitor daily for signs of recovery (leaves perking back up)
Lower nutrient strength on next feeding to reduce stress
Consider adding perlite to soil mix on future grows for better drainage
Next week's goal: Get both Gorilla Z plants back on track, let Heisenberg thrive in her new home, and practice better watering discipline. We learn more from mistakes than perfect weeks!
Stay tunedâthese girls are resilient! đżđ
Real talk: This is what growing looks like sometimes. Don't get discouraged by setbacksâevery mistake is a lesson that makes you a better grower.

DaveJohnson Week 7: Flowering Progress - Steady Bulking & Light Intensity Boost đž
A relatively quiet week in the best way possibleâthe girls are doing their thing without drama. After last week's overwatering lessons, we're back on track with steady progress across the board.
Gorilla Z #1 - Bulking Up Nicely
She's putting on weight! The buds are filling out and getting denser by the day. Recovery from the overwatering incident is complete, and she's focused entirely on flower production now.
Feeding Schedule:
1/2 strength General Hydroponics Bloom formula
Cal-Mag
Liquid Kool Bloom
pH 6.7
The half-strength feeding is the sweet spotâgiving her what she needs without risking nutrient burn during this critical bulking phase.
Gorilla Z #2 - Welcome to Pre-Flower!
She's officially made the transition! Pre-flower pistils are showing, and the stretch is beginning. This is where things get excitingâshe'll bulk up quickly over the next few weeks.
Feeding Schedule:
1/2 strength General Hydroponics Bloom formula
Cal-Mag
Liquid Kool Bloom
pH 6.7
Switched her to the bloom formula now that she's in pre-flower. The transition nutrients will support both the stretch and early bud development.
Heisenberg - Thriving in the Spider Farmer Tent
She's loving her new home! Flower development is progressing beautifully, and she's handling the increased light intensity like a champ.
Feeding Schedule:
1/2 strength General Hydroponics Bloom formula
Cal-Mag
Liquid Kool Bloom
Light Intensity: Bumped up to 80% on the SF3000!
The increased light is really making a differenceâtighter node spacing and more vigorous bud development. She's showing no signs of stress at this intensity, which means she's utilizing every photon.
Key Observations & Adjustments
The calm after the storm: After last week's overwatering challenges, this week has been beautifully uneventful. Sometimes boring is exactly what you want in a grow!
All three plants are now on the same bloom-focused feeding schedule at half strength. This conservative approach is paying offâhealthy green leaves, no nutrient burn, and steady bud development.
The light increase on Heisenberg to 80% is a calculated move. At this stage of flower, more light = more energy for bud production. The SF3000 at 80% is delivering serious intensity without overwhelming her.
Watering discipline maintained: Lifting pots before watering, waiting for proper dry-back. No repeats of last week's mistakes!
Next Week's Plan
Continue monitoring bud development on Gorilla Z #1
Watch Gorilla Z #2's stretchâmay need support/training soon
Potentially bump Heisenberg to 90-100% light if she continues handling 80% well
Consider light defoliation if any plants need better airflow/light penetration to lower bud sites
Stick with half-strength bloom formulaâif it ain't broke, don't fix it!
The flowers are coming! Week 7 means we're officially in the home stretch. Each week from here brings noticeable changes. đ„đż
Sometimes the best grow weeks are the ones where nothing goes wrong. Here's to boring, steady progress! âïž
