MrLahey 6 days after planting the seed into the soil she popped. I went out of town for a day and it’s cold at night here so I think that caused germination to take an extra day or two than it normally does for me. I’ll let her grow a bit in the solo cup then transfer to a 1g fabric pot and then transfer to the 20g eventually.

MrLahey Unfortunately I may have to scrap this one. The husk of the seed never came off and initially was stuck on quite bad which caused some deformities. I looked up info on the husk being stuck on and some results said it would be fine and others said it would be an issue. I have essential tremors so there was no way that I was able to remove the husk without killing the plant. Unfortunately it remains very stunted and my suspicion is that it will never grow normally. It might be best for me to cut my loses and germinate another seed? I was hoping she’d recover and due to the stress produce something special eventually ha. Doesn’t seem to be the case. These pics are day 8 after germination/breaking soil. 😢😡

MrLahey She’s recovered basically so I’m gonna let her grow and not bother scrapping her. Ppfd has been too high which has caused her to stack nodes really dense causing her to be short. In a week roughly I’ll transfer her to a 1g.

MrLahey Just transplanted her from the solo cup to the 1g fabric pot. Will leave her in the 1g for around two weeks and then transfer to the 20g for her final home. Before I transplant I’m going to thoroughly clean my tent, chop and drop the jungle of clover, add amendments and then cover it all with compost.

MrLahey Looking great so far after such a difficult seedling and early veg phase due to the husk sticking to the leaves and cotyledon. I’ll be topping her in the next couple of days and then a few days later transplanting her to the 20g for her final home.

MrLahey I put in some work yesterday and today. Chopped the clover, added some buildasoil craft blend and cased it with BaS compost and transplanted her from the 1g to the 20g. I also set up the Blumat irrigation system and the tensiometer. I’m excited to see how much better it waters than I do. Based on the tensiometer it seems I was greatly under watering. Trellis net going up in a few days.

MrLahey Gotta say I’m absolutely LOVING this blumat system now that I got it dialed in after absentmindedly changing the settings when I first got it. Soil moistness is getting to low 40’s. I turned the valve back a smidge to get it into the 50’s at its moistest. New fan leaves are looking a little funky. Thinking I may have overdone it on the amendments maybe when I transplanted. Other than that things seem to be going well. Gonna scrog her out for a few weeks then flip. I need to get those temps up to get some quicker veg growth. That’s the main downside to having my tent in my basement.

MrLahey Been doing lots of training on her and will continue to do so for the next 2 weeks maybe before flipping to flower? My aim is to fill the net around 60-80% then flip to flower and then continue to tuck and train for the next week or so and then let her grow upright again. Just depends on how impatient I get lol. Removed a couple fan leaves at top of canopy to expose some younger bud sites to full light. Also bought a new fan. I’ve so far loved all of their products and have had none crap out OTHER than their oscillating aerowave e6 twice now. However, the first two fans were purchased before I upgraded my tent with the horizontal support poles and they would occasionally get bumped and lose their positioning and make too much contact with the tent wall. This could have caused them to go out. Eventually the fans oscillating range of motion became very restricted and jerky. Interested to see how long my aerowave e9 lasts if I take care of her. Edit: just lowered lights by 5%. I think she is starting to tell me that the current ppfd is too much for 18 hours a day. I see some tacoing starting to happen. Temp doesn’t get higher than a couple of spikes to 79.5 during the day but day time average is 75 degrees really so I don’t think it’s heat stress. Photone one with diffuser now shows 475 but Photone can be off by like 50 I believe so further light adjustments might be warranted eventually. I’m pretty sure that on my last few grows I was too strong on lighting in veg phase maybe because I had lots of tacoing in those.

MrLahey Day nine of flower and so far so good. I’m gonna let her go another 12 days or so before I do a deep defoliation and open up the canopy for better light penetration and clear out some of the lower branches and leaves. For now I’m just tucking fan leaves daily to expose bud sites to more light. Might give her a small amount of amendments next week to send her off to the finish line with. So far she looks good to my novice eyes. My favorite part of the grow cycle is just around the corner!

MrLahey Looking great so far. She was thirsty as heck some days last week. Used close to 2 gallons of water a day. Smell is starting to come on. Veryyyy slight syrupy smell possibly but it’s too early to be sure, to be quite honest. Regardless, she’s starting to create her smell it seems. Gonna give her maybe five or six days and then do a lollipopping and considerable canopy clean up to make sure that the lower bud sites don’t get too deprived of light. Learned my lesson on my last grow with that. After that I’ll be pretty hands off the rest of the grow other than maybe some flower amendments.

MrLahey Today is day 23 of flower and she’s still stretching. It seems the one I have is really stretchy which makes me happy I put the lower trellis net where I did. Maybe it’s an act of cannabis defiance for being so stunted at the beginning or perhaps I’m just anthropomorphizing lol. I did minimal defoliation the first 21 days of flower and since then I’ve done it each day little by little. I’ll probably do one more bigger defoliation tomorrow nightand then I’ll probably step back and let nature take back over. At day twenty she started to smell rather syrupy. I feel like that’s early for a cultivar to start smelling this noticeably strong considering that it’s estimated to average around 60 days in flower according to HSC. I’m hoping this means she’s gonna have like 4D terpenes and crazy strong cannabinoid profile lol. The Blumat is keeping her perfectly watered. I think it’s translating to a much heartier and healthier plant than when I was watering by hand. I’m waiting for my typical mid flower nutrient issue to show up any day now and if it doesn’t I’m gonna thank the Blumat for that and assume my previous plants mid flower issues were due to me not meeting the voracious water demands of a plant in early flower.

MrLahey Day 30 of flower and so far things remain smooth sailing. Stretch ended day 26 or even day 27 I think. The smell is absolutely wonderful. It seems like in the past couple days the syrup smell has intensified a lot but now the butter element of the syrup is a lot more pronounced and recognizable/distinct. I’m so excited for the next month if the smells are already this powerful!

MrLahey Day 37 of flower and she smells absolutely blissful. 😍 The buds are really starting to look very colorful too and there could easily be another 30 days left before harvest. When she is ready to be chopped I have a feeling she will look amazing. Can’t wait to get my camera out and do some macro focus shots. This cultivar or phenotype in particular is THIRSTY! It’s possible that the water consumption is also due to the clover but I’d imagine it’s a combination of the clover and the root system of this plant perhaps. She’s still going through a little over 2 gallons of water a day. I bought the blumat to be able to go out of town and not worry about the plant drying out and now I realize I’d need a much bigger reservoir than the 5g bucket I have. I contribute the plants late flower health to the watering consistency of the Blumat. What a game changer proper watering is, haha. All of my flower deficiencies with past plants were really underwatering symptoms from too much dry back maybe.

MrLahey Today is day 51 of flower and the top bud site calyxes are already showing a good amount of amber on the trichomes. Maybe being stunted in seedling phase caused some change in the plants growth hormones. Who knows? I’m still gonna give her at least a week until I chop her. Gonna have to start checking overall plant trichomes nightly though just so I can get a feel for the plants overall maturity/ripeness level. So excited for this harvest. The plant smells like heavenly maple syrupy butter lol.

Happy Harvest Day!

Pulled her at day 55 of flower which is earlier than I expected. I was planning on pushing 70 days but the trichomes on the tops and mids had a good amount of amber on them. Final smell is the most common phenotype - maple syrup and butter smell. Quite strong smelling too. This plant started off very stunted due to the hull of the seed remaining stuck to the cotyledon leaves for around ten days after germination. It deprived the cotyledon leaves of light to photosynthesize and also caused them to warp. Many people would have restarted possibly. The genetic expression on this one ended up being quite wonderful. I’m really excited for when she’s dried up and cured enough to vape some of it in around 2 weeks. I’m super happy with the combo of my soil and blumat. The worms in the soil seem healthy and abundant which seems indicative of really healthy soil.

@Terp_Turkey, from what I’ve read there are a few different phenos for chicken ‘n waffles, assuming what I read was true. I dry herb vape which is excellent for flavor clarity so I’m excited to find out if she smells and tastes syrupy of chickeny! Today is day 9 of flower. Stretch is just starting. Super excited for when she starts to get into flower.
