Put it in the tent yesterday for the first time. Fan arrived today so installed that. No carbon filter yet as I want to prolong the life of that. Just giving it pH'd water at this stage, will give it some nutes when I get another node. Day 6 gave it some seedling nutes only 170ppm to ease her into it. She's also been ramped up to 20/4 from 18/6 today. Mars Hydro 300W (drawing 135W) at about 24". 170ppm in and abour 350ppm out. 6.5pH in and 6.3pH out.
After a slow start I am now seeing progress each day. It's looking healthy, I plan on transplanting to final 2 or 5 gal fabric pot this weekend. I run the exhaust maybe for 2 minutes 3 or 4 times a day to replenish CO2 levels. Humidity and temps too low to run the fan 24/7. Day 10 first feed of veg nutrients 19-5-20 NPK @ 900ppm, 7.2pH in 5.9pH runoff, 900ppm runoff (I think this is too high and will keep a look out for nute burn). Plant is now at 18" from LED.
Getting some good speed now with the grow. Got her straight onto 900ppm a few days ago which has been handled well. I will increase to 1000ppm at next watering in a day or two. Looks like she's on 4th node at the moment - maybe just starting the 5th? Hard to see as the node spacing is so small. She will be FIMd or topped soon and then LST.
Leaves are getting larger and she is bushing a lot near the primary stalk which I haven't seen a lot of in other posts. I'm wanting to LST this week but I need some more stretch before I can do anything meaningful. Handling nutes fine, might increase dose from 800ish to 1000ish ppm. Day 24 switched to 24hr light, also noticed some leaves crisping at the ends. Suspected nute burn. Water only next.
The last week has been OK. I found myself trialling a couple different growth shapes and then realised I'm running out of veg time (need to harvest before end 2017) so just let it do its thing after some defoliating. It's bushing out which is nice, but hard to train because it's so dense. More time would make it easier to scrog but I'm going to flip in 1-2 weeks. Who knows it might be a male so let's just get into it.
Ok so flipped to 12/12 yesterday. Some LST instead of scrog because my netting squares were too large - should've done this from the start. Should see some good stretch over the next week or two. Note to self: bloom ferts are 1400ppm recommended.
Old leaf showing an old Cal Mag deficiency I think. (EDIT: probably just PH fluctuations actually.) Rest of plant looks god apart from some little bug eating my new leaves. Applying Pyrethrum weekly to manage. (EDIT: apply just before dark period) She gets Cal Mag every other feed and about 1100ppm bloom nutrients. Very very slight nute burn from last feed so won't increase until she doesn't burn at 1100ppm. Upgraded pH meter to a properly good one which might help a bit too. pH out still mid 5s which isn't ideal but she seems to be healthy. I ordered another 300w (135w draw) LED today (10/18) to help fatten these nugs up. F19 - decided to take it easy on the nutrients. Feeding about a gram per litre (forgetting the PPMs for a while).
Felt the need to defoliate to improve airflow and reduce risk of fungus gnat infestations in the crucial stages of the grow. The buds are beginning to smell a little sweet up close but still no stank in the air. Eased up on the nutes all together. My pH issue (too low) wasn't getting getting any better even after adding egg shells and watering with 7.2pH so I flushed her yesterday with about 2.5L water at 7.0pH.
I will check runoff at next watering and update the stats which will probably be in two days from today. She's still heavy and not in need of water. She needs more than 1L at a time to get a proper soak. I will go up to 1.5L and see how it goes next time.
Temps are slightly higher than usual after adding the second 300W lamp. About 85F.
Watering schedule I think should alternate between bloom nutrients and cal mag and probably work out to about a water/feed every 2-3 days if she gets a good soak.
Battling some light burn or potassium deficiency. Given she has received PK booster twice recently I'd say it's light burn. I've moved her down maybe 2 or 3 inches to see if the burn stops. Will continue with 1g/L bloom and bump up from 0.1g/L to 0.2g/L PK boost this week. I will keep using PK boost until I see burnt tips.
Still could be K deficiency due to nutrient lock out as a result of salts buildup? I did a 2L pH'd water flush to try dissolve and rinse out the salts. Followed by a calmag feed. She's up on pot stands now to get airflow under the pot too, so going through almost 1.5L per day water. Bits of nutrient burn so I may come back to half strength until that stops. I will continue with PK boost, also at half strength. Smells very fruity. Getting a bit of natural sunshine on the sunny days. Maybe 2-8 hours depending on amount of sunshine available.
Last week or so the colas developed a bunch more pistils. I haven't really noticed the buds fattening up until the last 2 days. She's getting a good amount of natural sunlight at the moment and able to drink 1.5L+ per day. I'm letting her dry right out though because my place is prone to fungus gnats.
She's on the verge of commencing the flush. Probably at about just under half orange pistils but still a good amount of straight white pistils on top. I fed her today (F51) but I think no more from now on - just pHd water.
Looking good! Anything above 20c is fine looks indicate by the wide shape of the leaves they can usually grow fine above 16c. Trust me from experience where I live it gets cold 😨
hi man!
You say this is your first grow...you want try scrog with one plant in first time grow? I read on your profile, scrog like method of growing......really?
