Using the glass of water/paper towel technique, this seed germinated, was planted, and broke soil in 3 days. She is planted in a mix of 45% Promix potting soil, 45% coco coir and 10% perlite. First week I have been feeding her about 1/4 cup of water (Ph'd using white vinegar) every day or two. My new LED panel has a true wattage of 120w (I am assuming on full spectrum), but this first week I have only been using the veg spectrum. I will switch to full spectrum from week 2 onward. Not sure what that burnt tip (see photos) is about, but as it hasn't spread and there are no issues with new leaves, I won't worry about it for now.

Week 2 has been fairly straight forward. Increased watering to 1/2 cup every couple days with no added nutes. This seems to be a better watering schedule than I had with my last grow, I am seeing no issues and plant seems to be growing fast and sturdy, with side branches already starting to show. Also, I switched the light from veg to full spectrum.

Gave her first nutes this week at half dose. Now feeding on a water-water-nute schedule, small amount (2 cups in week 3, increasing weekly) every other day or so depending on dryness of top soil. This seems to be working well as she is growing strong and healthy. A nice deep green colour with no burns or blemishes. Side branches are coming out nice. She grew 2.25 inches this week so perhaps she will start to show flowers soon. Local weather has been a bit all over the place the past week and RH has been fluctuating quite a bit between 40 and 55%, but mostly settling in the 40s. I am strongly considering not doing any training on this one as I think I would like to see her grow in her natural form. I can always LST another one later and compare with my own eyes.

Big growth this week, both in height and vigorous side branch growth. She is also starting to really soak up the water. First flowers seen on day 27. Now starting to gently tuck shade leaves to expose laterals, but not tying anything down.

The stretch continued this week and all bud sites are showing flowers. She continues to soak up the water like a sponge. After the first big feed I noticed some pale (not quite "burnt") tips, so I will keep an eye on that. Re-tucking the shade leaves a couple of times a day. She has also started to produce a very light "weed" smell.

Stretch, stretch, stretch, I don't think she is gonna stop. She is taking over my tent! Just over 2 feet tall and 1.5 square feet area coverage. I've had to take the Magnum Auto out of the tent and put it under the 150W CFL (I have another LED coming next week). It is funny, I remember thinking in the first few weeks that she seems small, and now I am thinking I will stick with Indicas in future! She has lots of bud sites, so if flowering all goes well I think she could give a pretty nice yield. Still having heat issues and humidity is spiking the last few days, but little I can do about it until my A/C is fixed other than hope for the best.

Further growth and bud sites are starting to establish themselves. I noticed that some of the bottom shade leaves were showing a patchy paleness and starting to die off. I think this might be a cal/mag issue, not sure (see photo), but gave some cal/mag and removed some of the effected leaves. I notice that more bottom leaves are going this way, so if anybody can clarify based on the photo I would be very grateful. Having outgrown the tent, she is now outside of the tent and under my new cob LED (150 true watts), while the Magnum Auto stays in the tent under the original LED. I want to put some kind of reflective material around her perimeter, but she seems to be enjoying the new light. I do wonder how many newbie growers end up buying a second tent because the first one is too small. Live and learn 😉

Stretch seems to have stopped now and bud sites are beginning to put on weight. Bud leaves are getting sugary. The unknown dying off of shade leaves has continued. The cal/mag (another feed this week) doesn't seem to have done anything. I have probably removed two dozen leaves over the past two weeks. I think the next watering I will give it a good flush. On day 54 I tied some of the lower side branches up so that they are a bit closer to the light and closer to the centre line of the plant.

Can anyone identify what is happening with the shade leaves in weeks 7 and 8?

@GreenCanuck you need to use some hydrogen peroxide in your next Watering as I think you may have some root damage happening there 5mls to 4 litres flushed thru your soil should kill that bacteria and save your Plant from eventual death.

I flushed the plant using 4 litres of water and 5ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide. I put a floor fan in front of the plant to facilitate quicker drying of the soil and also put the pot on an upside-down mesh metal stationary tray so that airflow is getting to the drainage holes on the bottom. Once the soil had dried to the point where the plant started to droop I gave a lighter watering with some Cannazym. There is another humidity spike, but there is not much I can do about it. I think the plant is also root-bound. I should probably have used a 5 gallon pot instead of 3, but certainly too late to repot now. I was checking the dryness of the soil with my finger and 2 cm below surface it becomes a thick rooty mass. Before I start my next grow I will purchase some 5 gallon fabric pots. I had a look at the trichomes (day 63) and they are 95% cloudy, 5% clear.

Week 10. Harvest

Happy Harvest Day!

Oh, man! Well, it has been a couple of weeks of ongoing disasters...computer died, a flood, and on. Anyway, the relevant disaster here is that the main stem snapped (the main stem of this plant was noticeably slim and flimsy), partly my clumsiness, partly my cats getting in the way (as usual). I yelled the F-word very loudly. So, again, an early harvest... Anyways, after all the trouble that I thought had something to do with the roots - on inspection the roots were pretty healthy looking, some nice healthy, white mycorrhizae colonies. I am now pretty positive that the problem was severe nutrient burn - knowledge that I am know applying to the Magnum which is still going. I think it would be worth trying this strain again with almost no nutrients and see how it goes. I put ease of growing as hard for myself, though it would be probably be easier for an more experienced grower. After dried and cured for a week I had 11.4 grams of small, airy buds and another 7.9 grams of sticky trim. Aroma/flavour is a mix of citrus, herby(spicy) and woody. Strength and effect is mild sativa, would no doubt be considerably stronger if she had a couple more weeks to mature.

Grew quite tall, but also very slim and spindly, needs supports. Classic x-mas tree shape with a wide skirt - 4 feet square area coverage for one plant. Much side-branching and lots and lots of small bud sites, main cola looks like it has potential for size, but all buds were airy. Good trichome production even extending down the larger leaves - quite sticky.

Excellent looking girl! I don't think you have a big problem with your roots though. Instead I think you've used a bit too much nutrients throughout flower and created enough of a salt build up that it's beginning to lock the roots up. If you look at the tips of the leaves they are showing classic N-burn, and are also growing really thin and dark green. The leaves from week 7 and 8 looked like they had excess P/K too. Something to consider when applying hydrogen peroxide it that not only will it kill 'harmful' microbes, it will nuke all the beneficial ones too. I could be wrong but I think all that Cannazym does is enhance the microbes; not replace. Without replacing the microbes with mycorrhizae, your roots will hardly be able to process available nutrients and recovery won't really be possible. I recommend including some mycorrhizae alongside the Cannazym and maybe a couple ml/gal of K booster and just stick to that until the bottom leaves begin to turn a bit yellow and shrivel up. That will be a good indication that the excess salt build up is resolved and that the remaining mobile nutrients are starting to be sent up to the buds. At that point you can probably begin adding back actual nutes or it may just be time to flush and harvest. Good luck!

@GreenCanuck, No problem! My local grow store has $4 little bags of myco, only has one strain though. Another option would by Bonticaire hydroguard which is ~$20 and also only has a single strain. Sometimes you can also find a couple pounds of good myco on Amazon for 20-30 bucks and should last you forever.

@Kaiser, Thanks for your great comment. I was wondering about replacing the microbes and unfortunately I can't afford Voodoo Juice or anything like that right now, so what I have done is add a few good handfuls of fresh potting soil (the stuff I use has mycorrhizae) and a light watering to draw it down. I don't know how efficient this is, but it makes sense in my head! 😖 I am also trying to make a lactobacillus serum from instructions on another site, though that should take over a week. Anyway, it's all an adventure and I am enjoying every moment of the experience 😁. Happy growing kaiser!

Much taller and more open structure than mine. Love all the bud sites! I was working to open mine out with some pipe cleaners today and was really pleased to see so many little flowers starting all over it.

@DILLIGAF, thanks 😊 I am going to pick some up today. I was thinking about what might have started this and the main two things over the past 2 weeks is the spike in heat and humidity while my A/C was down and I also stopped using the Cannazym (which I started again yesterday). I am also wondering if fabric pots would help prevent this. Anyway, I hope it is not too late for this girl 🙏

Sad to read about your bad luck. Looks like you did ok in spite of it. I find it interesting that some diaries report a lanky phenotype and others a very short stocky plant like mine. Anyway, I’ve enjoyed you diary!
