squalino Grow Journal: Mac 1 Autoflower Growth Tracking – Day 6 (04/14) f This Mac 1 Auto was initially intended for a competition, but since it was canceled, I decided to see it through anyway. It's off to a good start! Environmental Parameters Height: 7 cm (it's starting to stretch out nicely). Light: Intensity set to 75%, lamp hanging at 100 cm height. Climate: Very stable with 24°C during the day and 21°C at night. Humidity: 50%. Setup: 20-liter geotextile pot in Autopot system. Nutrition and Care (Today) On 04/14, I gave the little one its first real boost: Fertilizer: I pushed 1 tablet of fertilizer 5 centimeters deep into the soil. Watering: I prepared a mixture of one liter of water with 1 gram of Bactrex. pH: Adjusted precisely to 6.3. My Observations As seen in the photos, the plant is standing tall and vigorous. The first true leaves are a nice green, indicating that the soil preparation is perfect for it. It's benefiting from the less nutrient-rich topsoil before it goes to draw from the Silicium Flash later on. A big thank you to everyone following me on this journey! squalino 🌿 Grow Journal: Mac 1 Autoflower – Start of Week 2 We're kicking off the second week with our two Mac 1 Autos, and the least we can say is that they aren't wasting any time. The structure and growth are simply amazing. Status Update and Measurements The size difference between the two can be explained by a slight delay at the start, but the vigor is identical for both specimens. Plant 1 (D+13): It stands at 13 cm. Its structure is incredibly dense, and it's really starting to spread out. Plant 2 (D+10 – so 3 days younger): It already measures 11 cm. For its age, it follows exactly the same explosive growth curve as its big sister. Growing Parameters Light: Still at 75% intensity, maintained at 100 cm height. Climate: Stable (24°C day / 21°C night) with 50% humidity. System Launch: Major step, I've opened the water valves! They are now self-sufficient via the Autopot system. Water pH 6.3 Nutrition: For now, no additions. They are feeding exclusively on the initial mix (Biotabs, Mycotrex, Startrex, and Silicium Flash). The fertilizer tablet and Bactrex given last week are doing their job deep down. Growth Analysis (Observations) The show is fantastic. We can already see a very robust structure: the internodes are extremely short, and the leaves are wide and tight. The lateral branches are emerging with impressive strength. You can feel that the plant is preparing to become a nice dense bush. The green of the leaves is perfect, with no signs of deficiency or excess, proving that the 10 cm separation layer at the beginning has done its job of protection. squalino 🌿 Culture Journal: Mac 1 Autoflower – Week 3 Now we move on to serious matters. Plant 1 is turning into a real bush. The growth is unstoppable, you can feel that the Autopot system and the Biotabs are running at full speed. State of Affairs and Measurements Height: It has made a huge leap to reach 24 cm. (+ 11 cm) Structure: It is incredibly massive. The main stem is already impressively thick for its age, which is a testament to its robust health. Cultivation Parameters Light: Intensity always at 75%, height maintained at 90 cm. Climate: Stable at 24°C during the day / 21°C at night. Humidity: 50%. System: Closed Autopot valves. LST, Accident, and Care I wanted to start structuring everything with a bit of LST (Low Stress Training), but I had a little scare: Micro-crack: While trying to place a clip on the main stem, the rigidity and thickness of the wood caused a micro-crack. I noticed it immediately and reacted in time. It should recover without issue, the stem will heal and will be even stronger (a blessing in disguise!). Adaptation: So, I shifted my strategy by placing two clips on two secondary branches to spread them out well and let light penetrate to the center. Nutrition: Today I gave a little health cocktail: 1 gram of Bactrex diluted in 1 liter of water, with a pH adjusted to 6.3. Defoliation and Observations I performed a slight defoliation. I removed about 4 nutrient leaves that had become absolutely huge and were casting too much shade on the flower sites and the lower secondary branches. As can be seen in the pictures, the plant has an "ultra-compact" appearance. The foliage is a very healthy forest green, the leaves are wide and well serrated. It is clear that despite the defoliation, the canopy remains very dense. The nodes are so close together that the plant forms a dome of greenery. The root system must be exploding in the geotextile pot to support such an aerial mass. Thanks to everyone who follows and to @Mia_BIOTABS for their valuable advice and support. The evolution of this Mac 1! We are closely monitoring the healing of the stem, but with the vigor it has, I’m not too worried. See you next week! Last photo on 30/04 It looks like it has started to flower. lol at barely 3 weeks. Either it has experienced stress (maybe the micro-crack) or it’s its genetics. But it is very green and beautiful to admire. I am impressed. 01/05 LABOR DAY HAPPY HOLIDAY TO ALL But today a little LST. Given the impressive height, 45 cm, I started to spread the main branch as well as the secondary branches with clips and rope. IMPORTANT NOTE The Mac 1 has indeed already entered flowering. We're entering a pivotal phase: pre-flowering. 💗 A Big Thank You 💗 ​Before diving into the heart of the matter, I wanted to warmly thank 💞@mia_biotabs and Mrs_Larimar 💞 for their invaluable advice that helps me a lot in optimizing this session. A big thank you also to all of you who have been following and encouraging me from the start! ​Growing Parameters & Plant Status ​Age: 27 days Officially entered pre-flowering at 3 weeks and 3 days (23 days). ​Height: She currently measures 40 cm. ​LST (Low Stress Training): She underwent drastic training yesterday. Without this LST, she would already be over 60 cm! I had to reduce her height to maintain an even canopy and manage the space. ​Light: the lamp is now 65 cm above the canopy to support her beginning stretch. ​Climate: Still stable (24°C day / 21°C night) with 50% humidity. ​Manipulations & Observations ​On the technical side, there was some movement yesterday (04/05): ​Back to basics: I removed the training clips. To be honest, I’m not a fan. I went back to my good old pieces of string to guide the branches; I find it more precise and less risky for the trunks. ​Maintenance: I did a light defoliation to free up the budding sites. The leaves of the Mac 1 are so massive that they were blocking light for the lower branches. ​Nutrition: nothing given. Still on the Biotabs kick, the soil is alive and the plant shows no signs of hunger; on the contrary, it’s a vibrant green. ​Structure Analysis ​The plant has become a true athlete. The main stem, despite the micro-crack from last week, has healed spectacularly and shows impressive thickness. The secondary branches have exploded and are catching up to the main head, creating a beautiful structure. ​We’re starting to see the first pistils clearly appearing at the tops of the apices, confirming that the "stretch" is well underway. The structure is exactly what I was looking for: a short, wide plant ready to support the weight of future flowers. ​Thanks again to everyone following this journal! squalino 🌿 Culture Journal: Mac 1 Autoflower – Week 5 On continues on our momentum. This week, the Mac 1 has literally exploded, showing that the stretch is now in full swing. I let it express itself fully. A Big Thank You A big thank you to @Mia_BIOTABS and @Mrs_Larimar for their advice that is bearing fruit, as well as to everyone who is closely following this adventure. Your support is appreciated! Cultivation Parameters & Plant Status Height: It has taken on quite a volume and now stands at 68 cm (+28cm) Light: the plant is gaining so much vigor that it is getting closer to the lamp, it is now 55 cm from the canopy. Climate: Always with 24°C during the day / 21°C at night 50% humidity. Watering: The Autopot system does all the work. The plant receives only clear water with a stable pH of 6.3. Maintenance & Observations It’s the week of "letting it be". I haven’t touched anything for 7 days: Zero stress: No defoliation, no new training. I let it stabilize after last week’s handling. on 12/05 Nutrition: It lives on its reserves and on what the Biotabs release into the soil. No signs of deficiency, the color is uniform and vibrant. on 14/05 addition of 50 cl of tea compost preparation tea compost: THE MIX: 15 grams tea compost with 5 ml of orgatrex for 1 liter of water (4 plants so ×2. 50cl per plant). mix everything in a bucket. THE PREPARATION material: 1 bucket 1 air pump for aquarium. (15 euros). I will use for 18:00 the pump from my autopot dome. I also bought 2 small air diffusers for 4 euros. useful utensils to aerate the tea compost. put the diffusers inside, turn on the pump and let it run for 18:00. normally the ideal temperature for microorganisms to develop is between 18 degrees and 22 degrees. for my part, the mixture was in my grow room at around 24, 25 degrees. see video and photos added 18:00 later filter the mixture to avoid any deposits likely to mold and bring in fungi. give the plant 50 centiliters. The tea compost does not keep well, give it within the hour following the stop of aeration. Structure Analysis The stretch is impressive. The plant has grown well while maintaining a robust structure. As can be seen in the photos, the canopy is starting to cover itself with increasingly dense white pistils, marking a clear entry into flowering. The secondary branches that I had tied down with string have benefited well from the light and are nicely catching up with the main stem, creating a beautiful exposure surface. We are starting to glimpse the future formation of the buds. The spacing between the nodes is ideal: enough space for air circulation, but tight enough to promise well-compact heads. squalino ​🌿 Grow Journal: Mac 1 Autoflower – "Bee Happy" 🐝 (Week 6) ​Change of scenery this week! My Mac 1, now named "Bee Happy" (marked by my little bee mascot), has moved. She has joined the big tent with her sister. It was during this move that I realized the monster I have on my hands: this plant clearly deserved an entire tent to herself! She has experienced an unexpectedly violent stretch. I wasn't expecting that at all. ​Growing Parameters & Space Management (Height Alert) ​Height: She peaked at over 1 meter tall. I had to intervene urgently. Thanks to a combination of intensive LST and the installation of a SCROG net, I managed to weave the branches to reduce and stabilize her at 90 cm. Despite this, she continues to grow and grow! ​Light Management: My light is currently placed 55 cm from the canopy. The situation is becoming critical in the box: I only have 20 cm of clearance above my light left. I am at the maximum capacity of my space. ​Climate: Temperatures remain steady at 24°C during the day / 21°C at night. ​Humidity: Change of settings. With the presence of the Autopots systems and the reservoir in the same room, humidity has increased. So, I turned on the dehumidifier and set it to stabilize the space at 60% humidity. ​Diet Change & Targeted Care ​Autopot Management: I have temporarily cut off the water valves of the Autopot system. ​Manual Correction Watering: I noticed the appearance of a few suspicious little marks on some leaves. Suspecting a Calcium and Magnesium deficiency (very common during such explosive stretching under LED), I prepared a targeted addition: 50 cl of clear water mixed with 0.6 ml of Calmag to quickly correct the issue. Soon, when the pot has dried, she will receive the PK 5-8 biotabs. ​Structure Analysis. ​The SCROG net is now essential to tame the structure of "Bee Happy." As can be seen in the pictures, the canopy is ideally flat and uniform thanks to the weaving of the branches, maximizing light penetration on all future bud sites. The flowering is now well established. Thousands of pure white pistils form well-visible pom-poms at every intersection. We see the famous little bee that will watch over her until the flush. Despite the slight deficiency spots that I'm keeping an eye on, the overall mass of greenery is impressive, healthy, and radiates incredible energy. So, I had to rush around the setup and take my photos a bit hurriedly before packing the bags. Luckily, with the Autopots, I leave with peace of mind. ​Growing Parameters & Progress ​Height: It has stabilized at 1 meter. ​Vertical Growth: To the naked eye, it’s clear that it has finally slowed its climb to the ceiling. Unlike its sister, which keeps climbing, "Bee Happy" seems to have finished its stretch. This is great news for my remaining 45 cm of space above the lamp after raising it to the maximum! ​Climate & Environment: Parameters with the lamp set at 45 cm, temperatures at 24°C day / 21°C night and the dehumidifier keeping the room at 60% humidity. Nutrition: Anticipation before the vacation ​To avoid leaving it hanging during our absence, I had to shuffle my schedule a bit: ​Bloom Boost: Yesterday, I advanced its nutrient dose by 2 days by giving it 4 ml of Liquid PK 5-8 from Biotabs. ​Goal: To provide the necessary phosphorus and potassium to kick off the major swelling of the buds while I’m on the Italian coast. The Autopot valves will ensure a steady supply of clear water. ​Structure Analysis ​The fact that it has stopped its vertical growth is immediately visible in its structure: it’s densifying before our eyes. The plant is extremely developed with an impressive network of secondary branches perfectly aligned under the SCROG net. ​The buds are starting to take on a real shape. The clusters of pistils are grouping together to form nice, distinct white pom-poms at each tip. The foliage is heavy, vigorous, and the slight marks from last week seem to have stabilized after the Calmag addition. squalino 🌿 Grow Journal: Mac 1 Autoflower – "Bee Happy" 🐝 (Week 8) Back from vacation in Rimini! The session is progressing rapidly, and the plant is entering a crucial phase. I had to deal with a little technical surprise in my reservoir upon my return, but the situation is totally under control and "Bee Happy" is thriving. Growing & Climate Parameters Height: It has stabilized at 91 cm. The stretch is definitely over, providing a very even canopy where all the secondary branches peak at more or less the same height. Light Management: Taking advantage of the halt in its vertical growth, the lamp is now fixed at 40 cm from the canopy. Climate & Humidity: Still stable at 24°C during the day / 21°C at night, with humidity controlled at 50%. Protection: I installed a sticky trap at the base of the pot. I noticed a significant presence of fungus gnats (sciarids), which will help trap the adults and clean the space. Technical Incident: The Mystery of the pH Resolved Upon my return from vacation, I noticed that the water in the Autopot reservoir had risen to a pH of 8. 💡 Grow Note: The cause is the air pump installed in the tank. The constant bubbling extracts CO_2 from the water, causing a rapid and continuous rise in pH. The water has probably been distributed at a bad pH for nearly a month. Correction: I immediately removed the air pump. Additionally, I switched products to use Plagron's pH Down (designed for hydroponics), which is reputed to be much more stable in storage tanks. Nutrition: Hungry Girls Today's Regimen: Manual watering of 5 ml of Liquid PK 5-8 Biotabs in 1 liter of water, adjusted to a perfect pH of 6.3. Observations: The absorption is excellent. You can feel they are hungry and asking for energy to build up. Analysis of Flowers & Foliage. As can be seen, the production of trichomes is becoming phenomenal. The small resin leaves around the buds are literally frosted, shiny, and sticky. A few rare pistils are just starting to brown, but the vast majority remain a bright white: for me, these are still large buds in full formation that will continue to swell massively. The fruity smell is extremely strong, a real treat. Visually, there is a total absence of senescence; all the main leaves display a vigorous dark green. There are just a few small localized dry burns on the tips of some leaves. Nothing alarming: this comes from high leaf transpiration accumulated when I was handling the plant and the branches under the net, as well as the bad pH of the tank. squalino 🌿 Grow Journal: Mac 1 Autoflower – "Bee Happy" 🐝 (Week 9) We're moving into the heavy flowering phase. "Bee Happy" is now focused 100% on resin production and the swelling of its flowers. Its final structure is set, let the show begin. Growing Parameters & Climate Height: Stable at 91 cm. Its vertical growth has definitely stopped. It's a bit shorter than its sister, but it more than compensates with a much more massive and spread-out development of secondary branches. Space management: This is the critical point right now. The two plants in the same tent, given the size of "Bee Happy," are causing me major space issues. It's a real jungle in there! Climate and Environment: Still set on the previous values: light at 40 cm from the canopy, temperatures at 24°C during the day / 21°C at night, and the dehumidifier keeps humidity at 60%. Nutrition & Ongoing Diagnosis Today's Regimen: I gave a good dose of PK again, but a bit more diluted in water this time: 5 ml of Liquid PK 5-8 Biotabs in 75 cl of water, still set to a pH of 6.3. Leaf Monitoring: I still have some slight burns on certain leaves. Two options: either the PK is starting to hit hard (slight over-fertilization), or it's the aftermath of the poorly managed pH due to the air pump last week. Today's new addition will serve as a test: if the spots spread, I'll ease off on the PK. If it stabilizes, then the problem is resolved thanks to the new pH Down from Plagron. Bud Analysis The plant is simply stunning. The famous "frost" (the trichome frost) has accelerated incredibly. The buds, small leaves, and even the stems near the flowers are starting to be covered in a white, sticky coat that shines under the light. The buds are thickening and densifying. The pistils remain mostly white and point upwards, a sign that the flowers still have swelling potential. The calyxes are starting to swell one by one around the secondary stems, forming compact structures. Despite the small burned tips under observation, the overall leaf mass remains a very flattering deep green. The fruity and heavy smell of the Mac 1 intensifies day by day with the slightest contact. "Bee Happy" continues to amaze me with its structure, even though the cohabitation in the tent is starting to show its limits. Growing Parameters & Space Management Height: Stable at 91 cm. The structure is definitely set. The Co-habitation Problem: This is the major downside of this session's end. This variety has a visceral need for space to express its full potential. Right now, I'm seriously lacking it. Its sister, Spirit, has grown so much that it's blocking half of the light. It's frustrating because "Bee Happy" would be even more monumental with full exposure, but hey, no choice, we make do with what we've got! Climate & Environment: Light maintained at 40 cm from the canopy, temperatures at 24°C day / 21°C night, and humidity stabilized at 60% thanks to the dehumidifier. Nutrition & Maintenance System: Still connected to the Autopot system, which perfectly manages its water level. Today's Ration: Today, I gave it its boost dose: 5 ml of Liquid PK 5-8 Biotabs. It's handling this addition super well, the hungry ones continue to assimilate without a hitch. Buds Development & Profile This is the major highlight of this week. The buds are swelling before my eyes and the resin coat is becoming ultra-thick. What's crazy is that the buds aren't even fully formed yet, and they're already super compact and hard to the touch. This promises a very high score on the scale in terms of density. The overall visual remains stunning. The "frost" is spreading more and more on the small sugar leaves. The smell has evolved a bit: we're dealing with a very sweet fragrance, super pleasant and not at all aggressive to the nose, a real candy. The foliage maintains its healthy green, showing that the little pH hiccup from two weeks ago is definitely a thing of the past. Thank you all for following the evolution of "Bee Happy"! Resin production is reaching its peak, and strategic choices for the harvest are starting to take shape. I sincerely hope I have enough silica to successfully carry out this session with it; it looks super interesting! ☺️ Growing Parameters & Environment Height: Still stable at 91 cm. The cohabitation issue: "Bee Happy" is still very impacted and overshadowed by the wingspan of its big sister Spirit. Due to this lack of space and imposed shadow, it's still difficult for me to precisely assess the overall structure of the plant and the final quantity estimate. We're making do, but the potential is clearly there. Climate & Environment: The constants remain unchanged. Light set at 40 cm from the canopy, temperatures fixed at 24°C day / 21°C night, and dehumidifier running to maintain humidity at 60%. Nutrition & Water Management System: The Autopot reservoir is still managing automatic bottom watering with clear water. Daily Ration: Today, I gave a slightly reduced dose compared to last week: 4 ml of Liquid PK 5-8 Biotabs. We're starting to ease off gently in view of the upcoming steps. Trichome Study & Bud Structure This is where we see a real genetic divergence. The "Bee Happy" buds are swelling in a totally different way than those of Spirit: The structure: While Spirit develops long, "Christmas tree"-shaped flowers, "Bee Happy" produces ultra-compact, very dense, and clustered buds that resemble cauliflower heads. Trichome evolution: The frost is simply impressive and very thick. Under the magnifying glass, the trichomes are almost predominantly milky. There are still a few isolated transparent trichomes and very few amber ones at the moment. General state: The sweet smell is still very present and quite pleasant. Excellent surprise on the overall health side: the absence of senescence is confirmed, all the available nutrient leaves are still very green and capturing every available ray. Outlook for the future🏁 Given the evolution of the trichomes (mostly milky), the THC peak is very close. I think I will start the flushing process soon. The idea will be to cut the PK to allow the plant to deplete its reserves and consume the remaining nutrients in the soil before the chop. Thank you all for following this update! A big thank you also to @Dryrocket: the device will arrive soon and is ready to go into action for drying, I can't wait to see the result! Finally, thank you to the whole community that has been vibing with me since day one. ​Cultivation Parameters & Extreme Climate ​Height: Stable at 91 cm. ​Climate: This is the major downside and the main battle of this end of the run. The heat in the cellar has become excessive with significant temperature spikes in recent days. I am reaching complicated peaks of 29 - 30°C. Despite these conditions far from ideal, "Bee Happy" shows remarkable resilience and takes the hit without flinching. ​Humidity: Always stabilized at 50% to avoid any mold problems on the compact flowers at the end of their life. ​Water Management: The flushing is entirely managed by the Autopot. The reservoir has been switched to 100% clear water to clean the substrate and push the plant to consume its last reserves. ​Buds Condition & Visual Observations ❄️ ​The buds have become extremely dense and are literally packed with trichomes. The resin coat is heavy and sticky. ​By taking a close look at the details in the photos, we can see that the cycle is ending beautifully. Despite the lack of overall control that I regret in this session (between the tight cohabitation with Spirit, the pH whims of the bubbler at the beginning, and the current temperatures in the cellar), the genetics have worked wonders. The calyxes are swollen to the max, forming those famous compact blocks typical of this "cauliflower" phenotype. Senescence is slowly starting to set in on the tips and small leaves, a sign that the clear water flushing is doing its job deeply and that the plant is drawing on its last reserves. ​Heading for the harvest ✂️ ​The countdown has begun. The buds are hard, the resin is ripe, and the flushing releases the last aromas of the plant. squalino ​✂️ : Culture Process, Harvesting, and Drying with #Dryrocket Overall rating: 10/10 without hesitation! This is the second strain I’m testing from Growers Choice, and I’m really more than satisfied with the result. Run recap The cycle of this plant started off with a bang, featuring ultra-fast growth and impressive stretching. My main challenge at the beginning was managing its explosive height and the massive deployment of its countless secondary branches. The main stem turned into a real branch factory (which is clearly visible in the photo of the bare structure). Despite having a bit of trouble containing it in the tent space, and despite a few minor mistakes on my part, the plant showed incredible tolerance. It didn’t hold it against me for a second and rewarded me with nice plump, compact buds filled with resin. In terms of aromas, it gives off a truly divine and super pleasant sweet lemon scent. The manicure session Harvesting and cleaning required a serious dose of patience: 8 hours of intensive cutting to trim these 487 grams of flowers and remove all the little leaves. A titanic job, but the result was worth it. Time for intelligent drying For the crucial drying stage, the buds joined the drying tent with their leaves, and the Dryrocket takes over. I’m starting to master the device much better, which is currently running at full capacity. It’s a really nice and intuitive tool: It displays the temperature and humidity of the tent in real-time. It strives to stabilize and regulate the target humidity at 62% (the perfect rate for optimal drying and curing). The "FAN" indicator on the screen shows the device's motor in operation and indicates exactly what percentage of its power it’s running at. Finally, the unit shows the remaining drying time and alerts when everything is perfectly stabilized and ready. Here we go for the real-world test, let’s see what this little technological gem has in store for the final result!
