Cpt_Gregorovich learned a lesson lol - running at about 30% output - burned some of the trees -
lost a few along the way as well.
1st grow -
5x9 Gorilla Tent
Current Culture 9 pot system - LOVE THIS - great design, easy to follow instructions, packed by hand and verified. if you want to do DWC - this is the way to go! @CurrentCulture #readyforautomation!
2 x California Lightworks Solarsystem 1100 = 2000w capacity - using the california lightworks light controller - it is perfect and easy to use. touchscreen is nice.
Heavy 16 full line nutrients
8" CanFan exhaust with double length charcoal filter
6" CanFan inlet fan and filter
shout out to @Sweet_seeds - 14/14 seeds successful germination -
Cpt_Gregorovich turned up light intensity from 30% to 40%. increased exposure time by 1hr.
water temp has been holding solid at 67*F
ordering a larger water chiller - as temp increases in the room - it appears to be struggling to keep up.
Cpt_Gregorovich roots started showing late last week. should see increased veg growth speed from here out.
still going really smoothly - all previous light damage appears to have eased.
still no need to add nutrients or more water - believe that will pick up continuing from now as well
light is at 50% capacity now - heat is starting to creep up. some reconfiguring is going to be necessary -
i plan to move the water chiller and air pump out of the tent -
Cpt_Gregorovich topped the fastest growing plant yesterday. appears to be doing well so far. all are showing signs of female preflowers at this point. @Sweet_Seeds #gorillagirlrocks. showing some damage on plant #3. happened when i increased nutrients. after turning down the lights and giving an extra two hours of rest that night, all appear to be growing well and speeding up. all are showing significant root development.
teeny tiny looks like i'll have to top less in order for it to catch up in size a bit.
Cpt_Gregorovich beginning of week 5 - topped all plants. all appear to be doing well.
added the foliar spray from @heavy_16 - few hours after and it hasn't killed anything - so thats good.
honestly they appear to like it. likely my imagination - but the leaves appear to have grown faster since adding this am. 5 hours or so after.
all appear to be showing small female pre-flowers. still have 8 plants.
spots on plants are the foliar residue - no damage just makes the leaves a little oily apparently.

Cpt_Gregorovich everything appears to be doing well. have continued to battle some root rot. really learning some lessons.
the root stalks are getting huge. i'm really impressed with the strain. I smoked some gorilla cookies the other day and imagine it is similar to this... loved the smoke - made me even more excited for the grow.
the plants all really want different nutrient rates. i would not recommend growing in a system like mine with anything other than clones. lesson learned
flushed system - waited until completely full before adding nutrients - lesson learned
still have to move the air pump and water chiller out of the tent - the large water chiller really adds more heat
Cpt_Gregorovich girls are turning into trees! extremely thick stems and very fast veg. growth. topped final time before flowering.
waited a bit long to add training, but the little i'm doing now seems to be working well enough.
finally moved the water chiller and air pump out of the tent. day time temps have dropped a few degrees as a result.
root rot has all cleared up - large, thick, pretty pretty white roots
Cpt_Gregorovich final week before flower. things all appear to be filling out nicely. training earlier would have evened out the canopy. topping should have been done more frequently as there is a lot of unnecessary vertical growth. have moved the lights much closer! should have done that much much much earlier. lesson learned
switching to 12/12 this coming thursday. (11JUL19)
Cpt_Gregorovich 11JUL19 -set the timer for 12 hour light cycle today. first day of 12/12 is tomorrow (12Jul19)
i have spent most of the week training out the main colas into as much empty space as possible. it is really difficult now to get to the center of the tent. thinking that maybe SOG would be more easily managed, as opposed to SCROG. (lessons for next grow)
took a vacation for 5 days. nutrients and set up have this grow running on auto pilot. makes it really difficult for someone that likes to "fiddle" with things. patience has been something that only makes the grow more successful.
15Jul19 - seeing nutrient deficiencies - added a half dose of base veg nutrients - heavy 16 bud a/b
overall things are going smoothly. attempting to get that middle hole filled in by training in.
Cpt_Gregorovich 20Jul19 - really going gangbusters now! - have doubled in height at this point all ready.
the humidity has really increased. i'm going to add a dehumidifier this week. temp range has really decreased. the blue lights run much warmer than the red lights apparently.
i've mostly got the plants into the best shape i can. the plants aren't responding much to training anymore.
24Jul19 - spent multiple days clearing out all of the brush! ladies are slim and sleek. thank you for the answers to my question all! I really appreciate it. starting show signs of pistils everywhere on every plant now. woot woot!
@Cpt_Gregorovich Hello mate contrary to popular opinion Air flow around the eventual buds is way more important than light penetration So I would remove a heap of the larger fan leaves thus allowing more air to get in and around the buds as they grow.
Do it now so as not to stress or set your ladies back too much Hope I helped answer this question and Happy growing 👍
Cpt_Gregorovich 25Jul19 - flushed system - ran with clean water overnight to clean out some gunk build up.
26Jul19 - added nutrients. final increase in nutrient strength according to the manufacturer. I like these nutrients, but man do they go fast. have nearly used a gallon of bud A/B. the plants are so big, they really want a lot.
all plants showing flower sites. starting to look productive. all females and no indications of any plant becoming hermaphrodite.
i'm going to have to figure out a better way to raise and lower the lights. while the ratcheting pulleys are great - i really need to get them nearly up to the roof of the tent.
27Jul19 - all but one showing flower sites - the last is in flower change, but isn't going nearly as fast as the others. I've lifted both lights nearly to the ceiling at this point and hope i have enough room. more training in the earlier stages would have been helpful at keeping the height down a bit. i started flowering at a little over a foot tall - the tallest has really stretched! its nearing 4 feet tall atm. continued signs of phosphorus deficiencies. (reddening / purpleing of leaf stems) believe this has to do more with the plant than the nutrients. they just need a ton of P.
Cpt_Gregorovich went on vacation for 4 days. first three are from before i left. the rest are from today. the plants look great to me. way too tall though. even though the tallest stem is above the lights, the top flowers are still getting big. it would be great if i had another foot or two of height for the tent.
bud sites appear to be getting larger very quickly. the smell has intensified a little but the largest difference is the amount of trichomes popping up every where. accidentally brushing against the stems results in sticky arms.
the largest buds appear to be the size of the top joint of my thumb.
Cpt_Gregorovich day 29 - into the fifth week we go. big difference in bud size from previous weeks - appears to be in full bloom on just about all plants. there is one plant lagging behind and still in early flower. it is getting to the same height as the 3 tallest. everything is getting ridiculously sticky! trichomes popping absolutely everywhere and covering everything. pistils upon pistils on flowering sites
tallest plant has light burn on the tops of the highest branches. i have moved them out from underneath the tent and they appear to be recovering.
day 32 - the entire tent is nearly full. from top to bottom and side to side. i can't move around without brushing plants and getting covered in trichomes. the buds have started fattening up at a very fast pace. everything appears to be going well.
day 33 - worked in the garden a bit trying to open up the plants and clear out older fan leaves. ended up with my arms completely covered in sticky. it still hasn't washed off after 5 or 6 attempts. the smell is delicious - fruity/floral base with lemon and earth.
thank you for all of the comments and well wishes. i appreciate the love
Cpt_Gregorovich day 35 - flush and re-up on nutrients complete. i added another feeding last week, and believe I will continue that from now on. this plant is so nutrient hungry.
the colas that are close to the light were getting burned and bleached out. more lines training the branches out. caused a lot of the 2nd 3rd and 4th node to receive much more direct light. i hope it shows up as heavy buds the length of the plant. crossing my fingers.
mammoth p is awesome. i likely would have killed these plants several times over. big thanks to them for the awesome product!
@SativaKid, 3 of the 8 are above the lights at some places. the stretch has been absolutely insane. i didn't plan very well. next time will be better. thank you for the comment.
@Cpt_Gregorovich That's why I bred it with Landrace Sativa(Thai Stick). I hope it is racier than the Gorilla Girl. The Thai is so racy my biking partner called it performance weed. He claims to ride an extra 20% when zapped by the Thai.
@Puffer_Bill,
sorry for the late reply. i could have sworn i did all ready but it doesn't appear so on here any longer. thank you for the like and comment! i'm keeping all 8 at this point. the smallest one likely won't get topped as much, if at all, in order for it to catch up with the remaining plants a little.
@NASATrainer,
thank you for the comment. your plant looks beautiful! i have at least 2 different phenotypes. #3 appears to be completely different. longer slender leaves - i'm actually really excited about that one in particular. maybe a little racier high.
I would take most of the leaves off at this point. One Gorilla Girl I grew reacted harshly to me defoliating too much. I also underestimated the growth previously with this strain, stretched like crazy, right into the lights. Great strain!
@Cpt_Gregorovich, If you want to grow Thai check out World of Seeds. Amazing genetics! If you drop 4 or 5 seeds and do the grow then you will find out this is a very slow starting monster. I've found 3 phenos in 15 plants. 60 % are this large growing pheno that sports giant white hair white frosted oily buds. 35 % are of a pheno that the bud hairs turn brown and the plant growth is medium. These buds have more small leaves that are impossible to trim, then they get frosted dark. The there is this one little super stunted growth plant that grows buds with dark hairs and this one is a horrible plant to grow. Super Super minature Sative that refuses to grow. In great conditions will produce 20 grams in a 24 week grow cycle, are you kidding me! So although the strain is not totally stabilized it's really Thai and it's a pure Sativa with up to 22% THC.
@SativaKid, i have started a propagation tent and will be going from clones from here out. lucky you on the landrace thai! good luck with your breeding! i'm reading up on breeding cannabis as well. eventually i'll have the space to begin that as well. understand on the defoliation causing stretch, i've been more careful about how much i lop off as the first major cut pushed the plant above the lights...
@Cpt_Gregorovich, On 1 plant at 3 weeks I lopped off the two tallest buds, now how crazy was that. The other one I didn't defoliate so it stretched about 3 inches less, then at like week 7 when the stretch was over. I grew two clones from these, one in flower right now and one got placed in the no tell motel with a real Landrace Thai. Offspring are amazing me, I believe this was a real lucky guess. I got like 125 beans, more than an ample supply.
@NASATrainer, they sure can take the stress. this strain is great for a first grow. i have ironed out so many things for moving forward. I did an hour of trimming this morning just to open it up a little more. it is sooooo crowded in there. once i was finished, all uncovered skin was sticky as heck. still can't get it to wash off completely. the smell is fantastic though! 😂
@NASATrainer, thank you! it appears to be going gangbusters at this point. quickly running out of any space in the tent. 8 plants this way seems to be a couple too many. the flowers are starting to bulk up and connect. its so much fun to watch.😀
@KingQush, i'm having great success so far with Heavy 16. it needs to be used exactly as the directions say. the plants have been extremely receptive. which is great as there are a few different phenotypes in there it appears. i've gone through nearly 1 gallon of of both bud a and bud b in only 4 weeks. maybe that is just this strain. i don't have any experience to go off of to say its if more bang for buck. I am extremely satisfied with the results so far. ease of use is off the charts. the foliar spray is no joke. visible difference in only 1 day after first use.
@DILLIGAF, thank you! i read up on it a little bit as well. the literature i read stated that it would be good to do two big defoliations during flower. once right before flowering, and once again at around 4 weeks. the act of cutting off the lower leaves pushes hormones up the plant increasing bud size and potency. the air part you stated was great and matches as well. the light penetration seems pretty good even though i am using LEDs.
Your leaves have a more Indica lean on it than mine--fingers are rounder and fatter. Can't wait for the US to legalize in all states so we can send our nuggets for comparison. 2050?
@NASATrainer,
there were some very large differences between the leaves early on. they all appear to be very similar now though.
agreed on legalization. id say earlier than 2050 - i'd be surprised if it took longer than 10 more years.
Hi! Nice choice of strain, im currently growing the same strain in organic living soil to get maximum taste out of my flower. What do you think of growing this strain so far? Has it been without problems or have you encountered some issues with the strain in particular?
Anyway, have a great day and happy growing. 😎 🌱
well... got a little impatient today messing around with the topped plant. #9 i believe. i broke a leaf. Damn damn damn. doing well otherwise. showing two new growth tips all ready. huge root system on this one - should be ok despite missing a fan leaf :(
@NASATrainer,
it was my fastest grower at the time - really bummed me out. glad to hear it worked out.
it appears just like your saying right now. i'm going to cut that leaf off in another day or so.
@Cpt_Gregorovich, Same thing happened to mine at the same stage while I was training. The side with the fan leaf grew faster and longer. Naturally, the side without grew shorter and thicker.
If you defoliate now they will stretch even more, wait about 8-10 days then half defoliate. Then defoliate again in a week. This will minimize your stretch with this monster growing strain.
That's funny, I also smoked some Gorilla Cookies while growing my Gorilla Girl. 😂 Anything with thin mints in it is going to be a heavy hitter, despite the sativa veil.
