ThomFoolery Mainely Genetics Micro Pheno Hunt Let me preface this by saying I know a proper hunt is done with 100s or even thousands of plants. You let them do their thing and don't worry with topping or much defoliation if any at all. And most breeders I believe will take cuttings from the seedlings, and flower those out and not really worry with the version from seed. This is because a plant can and usually will express different traits as a seedling then as a clone. So why would a big outfit that relies on clones to drive their business even bother flowering out a seedling? I am of course taking clones, but I'm going to flower out the seedlings because... I'm just not in the business of throwing out a plant that produces perfectly fine bud. I will be making my selections if any, from what the seedlings do. This is as the title says a micro version and out of 6 seeds I probably won't find all the traits I desire, but I may find something worth holding on to. That is the purpose of this endeavor. That being said; I have been planning this grow for months. If you've never heard of these guys then you should do yourself a favor and check them out @ www.mainleyorganicsgenetics.com. I tried to use markdown, html , bbcode everything to embed the link and spice up the text but this app ain't having it. They are located in Maine and are most well known for their massive pheno hunts, and the unicorns those hunts uncover. They work closely with other breeders of elite strains and make many fine crosses themselves. Those crosses are In turn hunted, keepers are selected for sale and future crosses, and the circle continues. They make the seeds from these crosses available to the public. I wish I could say that I could pop on over and plop down 1500 for a cut of Lituya Bay #20. You can see this gorgeous flower here. https://mainelyorganicsgenetics.com/products/lituya-bay-20-animal-tsunami-x-platinum-lemon-cherry-gelato-snips But I'm just a home grower. I can't really justify a couple grand on a few cuttings. Instead, at least for this grow, we are going to start scratching at this cannibas lottery ticket, and let's see if I'm a winner! *BayBerry Delight* I bought these seeds over a year ago when I discovered these guys via a reddit post. I asked someone familiar with them what to buy because it was just overwhelming all the selections. They have some pretty cool artwork on the packs and they used to use little glass bottles with corks to hold their seeds. That really impressed me mainly because I have a thing for containers and small boxes. It's always been a major point of interest for me. The seeds can get pretty expensive, with most going for about 20+ per seed, so I had no idea where to start. They told me anything with Lituya bay should be an interesting experience so that's what I got. The cross is called Bayberry Delight and one of the parents is Lituya bay #20 and the other is a very popular cut you may have heard of, Blueberry Sugar. I'm not sure of the exact cut but I believe it is from blockhead. The seeds I have are from the same batch that this beautiful monster: ( https://mainelyorganicsgenetics.com/products/bayberry-delight-34-lituya-bay-20-x-blueberry-sugar-snips?pr_prod_strat=e5_desc&pr_rec_id=22727f308&pr_rec_pid=8188438872138&pr_ref_pid=8195782443082&pr_seq=uniform ) came from. I dont know if we'll find something that nice, they get 2500 for 4 to 6 snips off of her, but I bet we'll find something pretty cool! I am going to pop 8 of the 8 that came in the pack. They inadvertently put 2 extra in the pack, so I'll pick the strongest 6. I'm going to do it in a tiny vivosun 2x3x5 tent. Actually i don't even think it's that big. It's like 1.7 Instead of 2.. excuse me. But, I have a plan. I'm going to do a SOG but from seed and with probably 6 different phenos! It's not really a SOG, but that's what I'm calling it. I know that you should just let them do what they do in a hunt, but I don't have that luxury. What I am going to do is let them get to 3 nodes and top. Then let them grow as normal. It's going to get crowded, but I am going to remove all lateral branches and just cultivate 2 colas on each plant. I will let them recover and grow 3 nodes on each top and then flip them. That's it. I don't care about yield. I'm just looking, hopefully for a mother that has all the traits I'm after. Nice fat swollen calyxes like Lituya bay, Frosty, strong loud odor, and a good strong body high. I'd like it if she clones well, has good vigor in seedling and veg stage, doesn't stretch too much, and isn't full of leaves, but this time out, I'm mostly looking for those big juicy calyxes and a super stank (engine oil, burnt rubber, halitosis, garlic and raw meat) terpenes! I'd also be elated with the opposite of the spectrum. Sweet, and fruity would be nice. Can't say that I've never experienced much as far as sweet, Berry, Cherry, any of those smells or flavors. I've always considered that a marketing ploy but I'd love to be proven wrong. I'm going the Coco/perlite route. Good ole GH Flora Trio. Half gal bags, drip line irrigation system on an autopilot timer and a 600gph pump. This way the pots take up less space and I can still develop some fat buds. I don't have to worry about them being hungry like with living soil. Hopefully I can dial them in with coco, but I suspect some may end up with different dietary requirements but well cross that bridge when we get to it. 5/18 They all 8 popped in less than 2 days. (I'll be choosing the best 6) I have never had any pop that fast. I dropped 8 in a cup of water @ 17:14 on 5/16. The next morning at 5am I put them in damp paper towels, into a Ziploc and into a preheated storage container in my warm closet for another 24 hours. Temp in the container was 74-77°. Today, Monday they had all popped to 5mm tails. Holy shit they are ready to go! Planted them all in my self watering coco seedling starter. I hope this works as I mean it to. Each mini solo cup sits atop a small bottle of nutrients with a wick extended so it stays damp but not soaked. EC is 0.6, pH is 5.9 temps are 80 and RH is about 60%. 5/19 I had to remove one shell. It's now day 3 and about half can be seen. 2 or 3 have came right up , but some were tangled. They will probably straighten themselves out.

ThomFoolery 5/19 I just put these little guys in the water about 36 hours ago!! Maybe about 40, but I started the process Saturday afternoon @ 17:14 and it's Tuesday 17:01. And they have all emerged. Some are just starting the "unfolding" at the surface, but they are up... For all Intents and purposes. I've never had a seed pop that fast... Have y'all? It usually takes 5 days or longer before they emerge. I hope this is a good sign for future vitality.. man... That little tent is going to be a bitch to handle... But here we are, and I'm commited. I had to remove almost all of their little helmets, but they slid right off. I'm sure as they opened they'd have fallen off. This little self watering seedling starter I made is cumbersome. They will turn over if you aren't careful... Well, this design came about in a totally different environment and not for cannabis. But I believe it will keep my coco at the perfect dampness for them. It does evaporate though. Not as fast as it does with peat pods im this same method, but then the coco is no where near as compact. Day 1, success 5/21 I did away with the jars/independent reservoirs. It's just too cumbersome and probably useless.. The main issue is ph. My pH drifts after about 10 or 12 hours, and that would mean daily consolidation of the nutrients to adjust the pH and then set em all up again..no. I worry about them staying wet in the small cups, but so far it's been ok.. I just fertigate them with a 10ml syringe in the am and once in the evening. But I need to figure out why they hell it's drifting so quickly. Guess I need to test the GH and KH. I'm in a new location from the other grows. They look good! A bit of stretch even at 350, so I went up to 400. See how they look after work. My pH is set to 5.9,and EC is 0.6 . I will probably have to start going up depending on what they ask for. Still using.rh GH Flora Trio and CaliMagic. *Later that night* I said the hell with those little cups. The idea just didn't tpan out and at the new place my pH drifts way too fast. I'm hoping by going to a larger container it may help. And I don't have to worry about the coco drying out. I just cut some solo cups in half and voila. What I should have done 4 days ago. Little suckers had some nice roots. I'm really expecting good things here, so let's see if I can keep up! 5/22 24 hours later and they look good. This is going to be a hard decision. Unfortunately 6 will be wishful thinking so 7. I'll have to upside the tent .. not totally ruling it out but this experiment was meant to take place in a certain sized tent. Wait and see how they progress. Nature could make this decision for me. 5/23 Day 4 and they look nice. Roots are developing very well, little first set of leaves are up and praying. I forgot to add air holes on the sides of the cups. This is pretty much a prerequisite for coco. You need to allow plenty of air to infiltrate the coco from all sides. This cups be why they are staying so wet. In any event they are in coco so no real worries yet. We are still riding 0.7 on the EC. I'll bump that up probably in a couple days and see how they respond. I've only ever experienced autoflowers in coco and timed fertigations, and they were maxed at 2.0 . I'm not sure how hungry these photos will be, but I've got plenty.. no plants will go hungry in my house, not for too long. I have a couple days off after today, which is a fucking miracle in my career. I get very little time off. But holidays are different. So it's a good thing, I still have to test the autopilot and make sure the emitters are all emitting as they should. Gonna start that tonight. 5/24 Added some slit the the side of the cup and topped em off with perlite. Noticing some fungus gnats. Wet coco. Summertime in the south. I have some nemotodes and mosquito dunk coming. 5/25 Day 6. They were looking a bit hungry yesterday so I upped the strength to .877 up from 0.77 . I am also noticing a bit of strist on a couple and that tells me early CalMag issues. Or Ca in particular. That's how it starts, and if not taken care of will later present with brown necrotic spots. So I have already changed my main recipe and I doubled the amount of CaliMagic I usually use . Coco can starve them of Ca this young especially. So I also raised my pH from 5.9 to 6.2 because this will help with the absorption of Ca. I also have a at of CalMag foilar spray at the ready in case it gets difficult.

ThomFoolery 5/26 Day 7 One week old. I upped their strength last night and 12 hours later you can already see a color shift. I forgot to fertigate the one on the far right. And it was pretty dry. You could even tell that it's palor was still lighter than the others. So damn..they are doing as they should be. Ph 6.3 EC. 0.877 VPD 0.80 Temps 78° I know 6.3 is high for coco but I'm hoping it will help with the Ca absorption. Nothing major just a little twist on a couple. Today is day 2 after nemotodes application. I hope to have these girls in the final pots between days 11 and 14. I am up to 2 fertigations a day. One at lights on, and one about 10 hours later. And then they go 6 hours till lights off. I hope this is sufficient. I'm not prepared to hook up a pump and time on these little cups. Lol. It takes 30ml at lights on to get my 10% runoff. The next only takes 20ml and it goes right through. So that tells me they are drying back about right. Not too much that the EC spikes. 5/27 Day 8 Well.. I've already fucked up. But how bad remains to be seen. I'm going to be transplanting in a few more days so worst case scenario, that may be what has to happen to fix it.. I'm still new to coco. So when they were in their first 2 to 3 days. I did not implement much if any runoff. "Always water to run off in coco. It's a must to keep the salts from building up." I didn't think that a few days would matter but I checked the EC of the combined runoff, and it was almost 3.0. I am now pushing 30 ml through at each fertigation, and 40 at the first of the day. That seems to be enough. 3.0!! Wtf!?! I know. Well It took me over 2 hours but I gingerly brought it down to just under 1.0, and that was with the final fertigation. All this knocked the pH out of whack and I'm sure that's my fault as well. Stressed em a bit. They look good though. So, now I'm working and in 12 hours we'll know more. Tonight I'll get the other tent and the fertigation system tested out. 5/28 Day 9 They're fine. Complete 180. They bounced back, looked like they had enough N, and then when the lights came back on, looking hungry again. Lol. I increased the input to 1.0. They are all displaying Ca def but I think I know why .. I was diluting my nutrients with regular water and not CalMag water. So we got that right tonight, we'll see how the new growth looks. They are putting the nodes on pretty quick. pH is stable at 6.3 across all plants 5/29 Day 10 It's gonna be time to move these darlings to the big(ger) , but not by much, tent. I bet this is going to be a real pain in the ass. But I really just didn't want to put the big tent up. Plus with it being summertime it's so much easier to move the humidity in the smaller one. Especially during the night cycle. The bigger tent could really benefit from an 8" exhaust. The 6" works, but once you hook up the scrubber, it just isn't quite strong enough. Sure , it is on paper. It's overkill on paper. But it doesn't work that way irl. I could make it better if I used an 8" filter on the 6" fan. But get this... Talk about bass ackwards ... I only have the 6" scrubber that came with the set and it's not refillable. And it's old and you can't pull through it anymore. But I do have a 4" refillable scrubber, and plenty of charcoal. So... I am being somewhat forced to use the scrubber with an adapter on the 6" fan. It works , it works, but I bet about mid flower I'll be coming out the pocket for a bigger one. I just really hate how I cornered myself into this combination. Maybe it's all I'll need. We'll see. 5/30 Day 11 It's almost time to transplant. I've been lazy. I just tested the irrigation system and it works fine. I've yet to pack the bags. Hell, ,I can't decide if I'm doing 1/2 gallon bags or 1 gallon bags. Probably the latter. I think the todes are waking up. I'm going to go ahead and plant some as soon. As I transplant. So any larvae that's hatched will be consumed. Still seeing small indications of Ca, but I believe they are ok. More to come.

ThomFoolery 6/2 Day 15 Transplant day! They were ready. Ok.. the coco I bought was supposed to be "triple washed low EC and buffered." I tested it just to be safe and it was right at 3.0. Wtf?! 3.0?!? Man that's crazy!! So It took me 24 hours to get that shit right. At least I hope it is. I gotta tell ya, I'm a bit worried. They have some issues with clawing leaves but not the N claw. The leaves are kind of tacoed, but not really racoing from heat. I think it's because I flushed the ever loving.... Well it was too much. So it must have stripped the exchange sites of calcium and Mg. I figured that out a week ago, but let it ride. So herer we are. And there they are. The system works great. Gotta do some.work on the drain to waste that isn't drain to waste .. yet. I still.jabe them on early veg equal portion base nutes and 3mg per gal calmag. EC inflow is 1.1 . Just waiting to see if they perk up. 6/5 Day 18 Progress.. we are making progress and that's good. The rootzone are as follows. .6 .7 .54 .8 .6 .6 This is relative to the position in the tent. pH is about 6.1 across the board. So they are coming up. Two of them look sadder than the rest and it corresponds with the lowest 2 ECs, but they all need to rise to about 1.1 before we can move forward. At least that's my theory and I think it's pretty sound. I added 3/8" bamboo sticks under each pot to keep them out of the runoff pockets. The solution likes to build up in the air pockets between the bag and the grooves in the tray bottoms. So hopefully this will solve that. I thought when I did this that the drip rings were too large. Only 4 holes in each ring. And too close the the edges. I ordered this one little 4" I found to test, and it is just perfect. But the flow is way too much. I have to add 1/4" inline valves to adjust this. They were hard to find in plastic and I hope they work on this hose. If they let me slow and cut off the flow in areas then I may be able to use the smaller ones. But I'm going to go forward with these 5" drippers a while. They seem to be ok so far. But I do feel the ones up front get more solution than the last ones. So the valves should remedy this. for 10 so I had to try them. 6/8 Day 20 Tomorrow will be 3 weeks. I am about a week behind where I want to be. The past 3 days have been intense. I have been hand feeding them every 6 hours in an attempt to balance the rootzones. I must have them all within .200 to .300 of each other so when I go back to the automatic fertigations, I dont have one or 2 outlier's that are way higher than the others that i have to pull back down... Again. So, I went ahead and did that and it was a looooong, slow process. Y'all may think I'm crazy, but I spent about 6 hours alternating between the 3 that were between 1.1 and 1.4. slowly saturating all the rootzones so they are closer. Once I got them all about 1.0, which is still a little low but it was the best common EC to localize them to. Once I got that done I added a valve in between the emitters so I could slow down the drip. It was too fast before and it caused channeling so every feeding just follows the same path. The idea is to make the drip slow enough that it doesn't just cut through. It slowly builds up and saturates the rootzones. If its only wetting parts of it, then I'll be right back where I left off days ago. As luck, bad or good would have it I lost my job about transplant time so I've had time to work with these plants. It HAS NEVER... EVER, been this difficult! But, it was all due to my negligence. Now.... I hope I've got it all fixed because I DO NOT plan on being unemployed another week. Had I been working I very well could be starting more sees right now and flushing this experiment down the toilet. But .. I saved them. Now. Just don't fuck up again.
