Guerilla Grow 2026 - spot # 1

Jesperado The seedlings managed a 6°C night temperature, and I’ve already removed the first slug — there were trails all over the substrate too. The girls will be lucky if they survive these first few weeks 😅 I’ve placed them in a sunny spot that’s basically inaccessible because of stinging nettles and thorny blackberry bushes. However, there’s a narrow back entrance if you jump a ditch — and that’s what I’m using.

Jesperado I'm glad I put protective covers around the seedlings. The slugs are everywhere. If they somehow manage to get past the covers, I reckon they've earned themselves a snack.

Jesperado I came back from holiday to find four healthy girls thriving away. Unfortunately, the fifth one fell victim to a particularly determined slug. The little menace somehow managed to cross both the snail collar on the pot and the copper barrier. At that point, I can only tip my hat to the guy — well played, Mr. Slug. 🐌 Added guano top dressing as well.

Jesperado The girls are really starting to take off! The guano has clearly worked its magic, and the stems have thickened up nicely. They've become sturdy enough that I'm no longer losing sleep over snails. At this point, the biggest threat isn't pests—it's people. They're growing in a public spot with a steady stream of walkers and cyclists passing by on the nearby nature trail, so the main concern now is someone spotting them before harvest time.

Jesperado Pistils are popping, the girls are growing up, and I’m over here feeling like one proud plant dad. I’m guessing there are at least four more weeks before chop day, but let’s be honest: the budrot usually gets the final vote. There are 11 ladies in total, spread across 3 different spots, all at least a kilometer from my house — so hauling water has been an absolute workout. Luckily, there’s a river nearby, and they’ve been happily sipping river water instead of tap water like the little outdoor queens they are. Parenthood is exhausting… but the girls are thriving.

Jesperado The girls are coming along beautifully — the flowers are really starting to show now, and the smell is definitely making itself known. I’ve started feeding them a little blackstrap molasses, some Epsom salts, and a splash of homemade calcium acetate, which I whipped up from eggshells and vinegar. I’ve also upgraded the entrance security system with a fake turd, some toilet paper, and a bit of dirt — a carefully curated “please do not enter” installation.

Jesperado Great progress this week—the plants are now covered in flowers, and all four are showing remarkably even, vigorous growth. Everything points to this becoming my best harvest of the year. I’ve kept the watering routine consistent, using molasses regularly and occasionally supplementing with Epsom salt and calcium acetate. The guano is already providing potassium, but next week I’ll give them an extra boost using water made from boiled banana peels.

Jesperado The girls are still looking happy and healthy, and they’re definitely starting to put on some weight. Unfortunately, the local insect buffet is apparently open 24/7, and quite a few leaves have been thoroughly munched. They’re also drinking like there’s no tomorrow. Since I can only check on them every 48 hours, they’ve usually drained almost the entire wet pot by the time I return.

Jesperado The buds are getting heavy, and we’ve finally reached the rewarding part. Veg felt like endless unpaid labour, but now the plants are earning their keep. I’ll probably have to harvest in about two weeks before bud rot arrives for its annual visit. That’s outdoor growing in this climate. Now I just need somewhere to dry everything — and it sure as hell won’t be in my house.
