Today we’re looking at Purple Haze Auto – Pheno A, one of the girls sharing the room with the rest of the current project and already showing some very promising early development. As with the other cultivars in this run, the objective remains simple: Create a complete and honest record from seed to harvest while documenting not only the successes but also the small variations that make every phenotype unique. And during this first week, Purple Haze A has already started showing a little personality of her own. ⸻ Settling Into Her Final Home Like all plants in this project, Purple Haze A was transplanted directly into her final 15-liter container filled with Plagron Lightmix. Because this entire run follows a 12/12-from-seed approach, I prefer giving the roots their final destination immediately rather than introducing additional transplant events later. The reasoning is simple. Every day matters when growing under a shortened photoperiod. By avoiding future transplants, the plant can dedicate its energy toward root expansion and vegetative development from the very beginning. The goal is uninterrupted momentum. And so far, she seems very happy with the arrangement. ⸻ Environment Environmental conditions remained identical to the rest of the garden throughout the week. 🌡️ Day Temperature: 27°C 🌙 Night Temperature: 25°C 💧 Humidity: 55% 🌱 Root Zone Temperature: 21°C ☁️ CO₂: Approximately 600 ppm Lighting was provided by the Future Of Grow Black Series LED system at approximately 350 PPFD under a 12/12 light schedule. At first glance, 350 PPFD may seem relatively strong for a young seedling. However, because these plants only receive 12 hours of light each day, total Daily Light Integral (DLI) remains significantly lower than what would be delivered under an 18/6 schedule. The objective is to allow seedlings to adapt early to stronger light levels while still maintaining a safe and balanced daily light exposure. So far, Purple Haze A appears to be responding extremely well. ⸻ Nutrition The first irrigation consisted only of water, allowing the seedling to establish itself naturally within the fresh substrate. A few days later, a very gentle feeding program was introduced consisting of: • Plagron Terra Grow • Plagron Power Roots • Plagron Pure Zym • Plagron Sugar Royal All applied at light concentrations appropriate for young plants. At this stage the focus remains root development rather than aggressive top growth. Healthy roots first. Everything else follows. ⸻ First Week Observations Purple Haze A delivered a very enjoyable first week. During the earliest days, some of the leaf development appeared slightly quirky and uneven, which is not uncommon during the seedling stage. Young plants often produce small irregularities while they establish themselves, and most of the time they quickly grow through them. That’s exactly what happened here. As the week progressed, growth became increasingly symmetrical and vigorous. New leaves emerged rapidly. Color remained healthy. Leaf posture stayed positive. And by the end of the week she rewarded us with beautifully formed three-finger leaves. One of my favorite observations was how “awake” she looked throughout the week. The leaves consistently displayed that upward praying posture growers love to see, suggesting she was comfortable with both the environment and the light intensity being provided. Nothing dramatic. Nothing complicated. Just a young plant doing exactly what a healthy young plant should do. ⸻ Looking Ahead Week one was all about establishment. Roots exploring fresh substrate. The plant adapting to its final container. Early nutrition beginning to support new growth. And Purple Haze A gradually transforming from a small seedling into a young vegetative plant. The slightly quirky first leaves have already begun giving way to more defined growth, and the appearance of those strong three-finger leaves suggests she’s settling into her stride nicely. Each phenotype is documented individually so we can follow every plant’s unique journey from germination all the way through harvest. This week we’re checking in on Purple Haze Pheno A. And honestly? She’s making it very difficult not to smile every time I walk into the room. ⸻ Week 2 Overview The entire room continues progressing beautifully as the plants establish themselves after transplant and settle into their final containers. Environmental conditions remained stable throughout the week: • Light Schedule: 12/12 • Day Temperature: 27°C • Night Temperature: 25°C • Relative Humidity: 55% • Solution Temperature: 20.1°C • Substrate Temperature: 21°C • CO₂: Ambient (~600 ppm) Lighting intensity was gradually increased to approximately 370 µmol/m²/s during the week. Others stand out because they’re quirky. And then there are plants like this one. Plants that simply do everything right. From the moment this seedling emerged, Purple Haze Pheno A has been one of the most consistent plants in the entire project. Every week she arrives with the same message: “I’m healthy. I’m growing. Everything is under control.” As growers, we often spend time discussing problems, mutations, deficiencies, or unusual traits. But there is also something beautiful about a plant that simply executes perfection day after day. And that’s exactly what this phenotype is doing. ⸻ Loving the Transplant One of the biggest observations this week was how comfortably she settled into her new home. The transplant appears to have been received exceptionally well. There was no visible hesitation. No slowdown. No stress response. Instead, she immediately continued pushing forward with vigorous new growth. The leaves expanded. The structure strengthened. The overall plant simply became larger and more confident. When a transplant goes smoothly, the difference can often be seen within days. For this stage of growth, the fan leaves are impressively sized. The plant is building a strong solar panel network early in life, capturing and converting light efficiently as growth accelerates. Looking back at the photographs from the beginning of the week and comparing them to where she stands today, the progress has been remarkable. The increase in leaf size, stem thickness, and lateral branch development shows that the plant has settled comfortably into her environment and is now entering a period of rapid vegetative growth. This diary is part of my Project Blue series, where every plant receives its own individual journal. Although they all share the same environment, nutrition, and cultivation method, documenting each phenotype separately allows me to observe the subtle differences that make every plant unique. Two seeds from the same pack can behave very differently, and that’s exactly what makes growing from seed so fascinating. Like every plant in this project, Purple Haze is being grown using the 12/12 From Seed method. Instead of giving the traditional vegetative light schedule, the plants receive a flowering photoperiod from the moment they emerge. This technique keeps the plants compact while still allowing them enough time to develop a strong structure before flowering naturally takes over. It’s an approach I enjoy because it produces efficient, manageable plants while still allowing each phenotype to express its personality. Throughout the week the environment remained extremely stable, providing the consistency young plants need to thrive. Environmental Conditions • Day temperature: 27°C • Night temperature: 25°C • Relative Humidity: 55% • Root Zone Temperature: 21°C • Nutrient Solution Temperature: 20°C • pH: 6.0 • EC: 1.3 • CO₂: approximately 666 ppm • Light Schedule: 12/12 • Average PPFD: 600–700 Maintaining these parameters allows the plants to dedicate their energy to healthy growth rather than constantly adapting to environmental fluctuations. Feeding Schedule This week the nutrition remained focused on root establishment and balanced vegetative growth using the Plagron Terra line: • Terra Grow — 1.8 ml/L • Power Roots — 1 ml/L • Pure Zym — 1 ml/L • Sugar Royal — 1 ml/L The goal isn’t to push maximum growth as quickly as possible but to encourage strong, healthy development while building a vigorous root system capable of supporting heavy flowering later in the cycle. A Beautiful Structural Evolution The difference between the first photographs of the week and the last ones is immediately noticeable. The stem has thickened considerably, becoming sturdy enough to support future flower production without any assistance. Internodal spacing remains tight, creating a compact plant with multiple future flowering sites already beginning to establish themselves. The leaves are broad, flat and richly coloured, showing no signs of nutrient deficiencies or environmental stress. New growth emerges with a healthy lighter green before maturing into the darker foliage characteristic of vigorous vegetative development. Perhaps the most exciting change is the development of the secondary branches. Each node is now pushing strong lateral shoots, giving the plant a naturally symmetrical structure that should translate into an even canopy during flowering. Why I’m Using Leaf Tucking Instead of Defoliation One of the techniques I’ve been using throughout the week is leaf tucking. Rather than removing healthy fan leaves, I simply tuck them underneath neighboring branches to expose the developing shoots hidden beneath the canopy. This offers several advantages: * More light reaches the lower branches. * Airflow improves naturally. * The plant keeps all of its solar panels, allowing maximum photosynthesis. * No recovery time is required because nothing is removed. Young plants need every healthy leaf they can keep. Fan leaves are the engines that drive growth, so whenever possible I prefer repositioning them instead of cutting them away. Defoliation can always come later if it becomes necessary, but at this stage gentle canopy management is more than enough. Looking Ahead Purple Haze is quickly becoming one of the strongest structured plants in the room. She has responded beautifully to the stable environment, balanced nutrition and simple canopy management. Every day she’s producing more side branches, larger leaves and a noticeably thicker main stem. If she continues at this pace over the coming weeks, she should enter flowering with an excellent framework capable of producing an even canopy and plenty of well-positioned bud sites. Sometimes the best training isn’t about bending, topping or cutting—it’s simply about giving the plant everything it needs and then getting out of its way. Purple Haze A is becoming exactly that. Growing under the same Future of Grow LED, receiving the same PPFD, sharing the exact nutrient recipe, environmental conditions and care as every other plant inside the tent, she has decided to express herself in a completely different way. Instead of remaining compact, she has embraced her sativa heritage and is already showing the elegant structure Purple Haze is famous for. Longer internodes. Large healthy fan leaves. Fast vertical growth. Strong side branching. Exactly the characteristics we hoped to see. This diary is part of my ongoing 12/12 From Seed Challenge, documenting every step exactly as it happens. No shortcuts, no hidden techniques—just honest observations from a home grower enjoying the journey one day at a time. ⸻ 🌱 Week 4 Development This week was all about preparing for the next big milestone. Purple Haze continued building an exceptionally strong root system while producing vigorous new shoots across every node. The leaves are deep green, beautifully flat and reaching toward the light, showing excellent nutrient uptake and a very healthy metabolism. Stem thickness has increased noticeably, giving plenty of confidence that she’ll easily support future flower production. The spacing between branches also makes her an excellent candidate for training later, allowing light to penetrate naturally through the canopy. Sometimes you can already tell a plant has personality long before flowers appear. This one certainly does. ⸻ 🚿 Time for AutoPot This week also marks another exciting step. Purple Haze A will soon become one of the plants running on my AutoPot system. Since every plant in this project receives identical lighting, nutrients and environmental conditions, this creates a great opportunity to observe one important variable: Top watering versus gravity-fed irrigation. Rather than trying to prove one method is universally better, I simply enjoy comparing different growing styles under the same conditions and documenting the results honestly. That is one of the things I love most about this hobby. Every grow teaches something new. ⸻ 💧 What is an AutoPot? For anyone discovering these diaries for the first time, AutoPots are a completely passive irrigation system. There are: ❌ No pumps ❌ No electricity ❌ No timers Instead, everything works using gravity. A nutrient reservoir sits slightly higher than the pots, allowing the solution to flow naturally through the tubing. Inside each tray sits the heart of the system: The AquaValve The AquaValve is an ingenious little mechanical valve. When the tray becomes empty, the valve opens and allows fresh nutrient solution to flow in. Once the tray reaches the correct water level, the valve automatically closes. The plant then drinks exactly what it wants. Only after the tray is empty again does the cycle repeat. Because the substrate experiences a natural wet-dry rhythm while always having nutrients available when needed, roots tend to develop extremely well. Healthy roots often translate into healthier plants. At least, that has been my experience. ⸻ 🌿 Why I Enjoy Growing with AutoPots Every grower eventually finds methods that simply fit their style. For now, I'm leaving her exactly as she is. She's leafy, yes. But she's also healthy. And there's an important difference. So this week, rather than forcing her into a particular shape, I'm going to let her shine exactly as she wants to. 🌱 One Room. One Method. Healthy flowering sites developing throughout the plant, with increasingly defined bud structure and plenty of visible resin production. She's not screaming for attention. She's simply doing her job. And doing it beautifully. 🌸 Week 8 — What Is Actually Happening? This is an interesting point in the flowering cycle. By Week 8, we're no longer looking at the early formation of flowers. The plant has already made that transition. Now the focus increasingly shifts toward flower maturation, calyx development, resin production and overall bud density. The plant is still photosynthesizing aggressively. Those large fan leaves are still important energy-producing organs. The flowers continue developing. The calyxes continue swelling. Resin production becomes increasingly obvious. And the plant gradually begins moving from building the structure of the flowers toward finishing and ripening them. But there's an important distinction here. Week 8 does NOT automatically mean "harvest soon." A calendar tells us how long the plant has been flowering. It doesn't tell us exactly when the plant is finished. Different genetics mature at different speeds. Different phenotypes within the same genetic line can also mature differently. That's exactly why we're watching the plant rather than simply counting weeks. 🍃 And What Week 8 Is NOT Week 8 also doesn't automatically mean: "Remove all the leaves." This is something I think is worth documenting because this girl provides a perfect example. There is a tendency to think that once flowering reaches the later stages, a plant should automatically be stripped down. But defoliation is a tool, not a flowering requirement. If a leaf is healthy, photosynthetically active and contributing to the plant, its size alone isn't a reason to remove it. Purple Haze Pheno A is certainly leafy. But look at her. The flowers are developing. The foliage is healthy. The plant is not showing obvious signs that it is struggling under its own canopy. So why interfere? So I'm not going to create one. I'll continue monitoring airflow, humidity, light penetration and the development of the lower flowering sites. If the plant gives me a reason to intervene, I'll respond. But until then... she gets to be herself. 💡 The Light Reaches More Than Just the Top The addition of the Lumiflora under-canopy lighting continues to make this experiment particularly interesting. Traditional top lighting naturally gives the upper canopy the greatest photon exposure. As plants develop, the lower portions can receive considerably less usable light. The under-canopy lighting gives those lower areas another source of illumination. And this is exactly where I want to observe rather than assume. Will the lower flowers continue developing strongly? Will flower density become more uniform throughout the plant? Will the additional light allow me to maintain more foliage without compromising the lower canopy? These are the questions that make this project so interesting. We're not simply trying to produce a harvest. We're observing how different phenotypes respond to the same ecosystem. And Purple Haze Pheno A is giving us another opportunity to learn. 💧 Feeding This Week The nutritional strategy remains consistent with the flowering program. Sometimes you have Purple Haze Pheno A. 😂💜 This girl keeps doing her thing. She keeps growing. She keeps developing. She keeps building beautiful flowers. And honestly, the more I look at her, the more I struggle to find something I would want to change. She may not be the biggest plant in the room. She may not be the tallest. She may not be the most demanding. But when it comes to balance... she might just be one of the most beautiful plants in this entire run. And this week, I think she deserves to shine. 🌱 The Plant That Just Gets It One of the things that has impressed me most about Purple Haze Pheno A is how naturally everything seems to fit together. The leaves. The branches. The flower sites. The spacing. The proportions. The overall size of the plant. Nothing feels excessive. Nothing feels missing. The pistils are giving everything that classic early-to-mid flowering appearance. And the resin development is becoming increasingly noticeable. There's still plenty of time ahead. But you can already see where this is going. And I like what I see. With Purple Haze, I particularly enjoy being able to look through the structure and see flowers developing at different levels. She's not simply a plant with one impressive top. She's developing a network of flowering sites throughout her structure. The overall plant. The flowers. The calyxes. The pistils. The leaves. The colour. The structure. Even the size. Everything about her seems to fit together. And this is where photography becomes such a big part of the project for me. A wide photograph shows you the plant. A close-up shows you the flower. A macro photograph shows you an entirely different world. You start seeing the individual calyxes. The pistils. The trichomes. The veins in the leaves. The textures. All those tiny details that disappear when you're simply looking at the plant as a whole. Purple Haze rewards that closer look. Every time. 💜 The Plant I Wouldn't Change I think every grower eventually encounters a plant that makes them think: "If I could start this one again, I wouldn't change much." Purple Haze Pheno A is becoming that plant for me. Not because she's perfect in some impossible sense. Plants aren't machines. But because she's developed a combination of characteristics that I genuinely enjoy. Beautiful colour. Beautiful foliage. Beautiful flower structure. Excellent proportions. A manageable size. I've finally figured out the soundtrack for this girl. There is only one song playing in my head every single time I look at her. 🎶 “This girl is on fire...” 🎶 Yes. Alicia Keys. 😂🔥 And I swear... I can't look at Purple Haze Pheno A anymore without hearing that song in my head. Because... THIS GIRL IS ON FIRE. 🔥💜 Look at her. The colour. The structure. The flower formation. The stacking. The bud size. The trichomes. The density. Everything seems to be moving forward at once. And the funny thing? She's doing it fast. For a photoperiod running 12/12 from seed, she seems to be moving at a pace that sometimes makes me wonder if somebody secretly turned her into an autoflower when I wasn't looking. 😂 Of course, she's not. She's a photoperiod. She's following the same 12/12 schedule as the rest of the room. But somehow... when I look at her... she just seems to be moving. And moving quickly. So let's give this girl the spotlight she clearly came here to steal. 💜🔥👑 🔥 This Girl Is on Fire Last week I called Purple Haze Pheno A one of the most beautifully balanced plants in the room. This week? I'm upgrading the description. She's on fire. 😂🔥 The changes aren't necessarily about one gigantic transformation. It's the combination of everything happening together. The buds are stacking. The flower structures are becoming more substantial. The developing flowers are getting more definition. The trichome development is becoming increasingly visible. The colour remains beautiful. And the plant overall is starting to look like she's really finding her rhythm. This is one of those weeks where I walk into the room, look at her... and immediately stop. "Whoa." She's got that effect now. 💜 The Colour Is Still Beautiful Let's start with something I've loved about this phenotype from the beginning. That colour. Those deep greens are absolutely gorgeous. And as the flowers continue developing, the contrast between the dark foliage and the developing buds becomes even more striking. There's a richness to this plant. The leaves look deep and healthy. The flowers are standing out beautifully against them. And the whole plant has that incredibly photogenic quality that makes you want to keep taking another photograph. Then another. And another. Because every angle seems to show something different. The deeper I look... the more I see. And right now, I'm seeing a girl that's absolutely thriving in her own little corner of the 8×8 jungle. 🌸 The Buds Are Stacking This is probably the biggest thing catching my attention this week. The stacking. The flowers are becoming much more substantial, and the individual structures are starting to come together in a way that gives the plant a much more developed flowering appearance. We're not just looking at little flowering points anymore. We're starting to see real structure. Real volume. Real density beginning to develop. And it's happening throughout the plant. That makes me particularly excited because one of the things I've appreciated about Purple Haze Pheno A from the beginning has been her balance. She isn't just producing one impressive top. She's creating a beautiful overall flowering structure. And now those structures are starting to build on themselves. Layer by layer. Flower by flower. Week by week. Stacking. 🌸🔥 ❄️ And Those Trichomes... Oh boy. This is another part of the story that's becoming increasingly interesting. The trichome development is becoming much more noticeable, and when you get close enough to really look at the flowers... there's that sparkle. That little layer of frost. That tiny world happening on the surface of the flowers. This is where macro photography becomes dangerous. 😂📸 Because you start looking at one flower. Then you zoom in. Then you look at one little area. Then another. And suddenly you've forgotten that you went into the room to check something completely different. 😂💜 But that's what makes this stage so enjoyable. The plant is changing from something we simply observe from a distance into something that rewards increasingly close inspection. And Purple Haze? She's giving the camera plenty to work with. 🚀 Moving Like an Autoflower? Now here's something that genuinely makes me laugh. This girl is a photoperiod. She's running 12/12 from seed, just like the rest of the room. Yet when I look at her development... she sometimes looks like she's trying to beat the autoflowers to the finish line. 😂 I'm not saying she's actually ahead. She's still got plenty of flowering time ahead of her. And I know better than to start declaring winners at Week 10. But visually? She looks like she's moving extremely quickly. The flower formation. The stacking. The resin development. The overall maturity of the flowers. It all seems to be happening at a very nice pace. Maybe it's simply my eye. Maybe I'm getting excited because I'm watching her every week. Maybe the difference will become less obvious as the other girls catch up. Or maybe... this phenotype really is just moving. 😂🔥 That's what we'll find out. And that's the beauty of documenting the whole journey. We don't have to decide today. We can simply keep watching. 👑 The Crown Is Getting Dangerous I've said this before... but I'm saying it again. Everybody still has a crown. 👑 This room is full of girls that are doing something special. One has the aroma. Another has the structure. Another has the size. Another has the colour. Another has the flowers. And then there's Purple Haze Pheno A standing there like: "Are we sure everybody gets a crown?" 😂💜👑 Because she's making a very convincing argument for taking everybody else's. The thing I like most, though, is that we're still nowhere near the end. This isn't the final chapter. We're not judging the finished flowers. We're watching development. So maybe she's on fire now... but we've still got a lot of story left to tell. And I'm absolutely here for it. 🌿 The Perfect Combination What makes this phenotype particularly exciting for me is that she's not relying on one characteristic. It's the combination. Deep green foliage. Beautiful structure. Compact proportions. Strong flower formation. Increasing bud size. Visible resin development. Beautiful stacking.
