Coco Spritz

CanOli95 Welcome to week 1 of Vegi. To be honest, I messed up the start a bit. I think I chose a too high EC and also watered too strongly for Coco. The leaves are a bit too wavy and pale. One seems to be a bit on the edge, but the others still look "OK." I repotted them into smaller containers and watered with a mix of distilled water, tap water, and Canna Coco, bringing the EC down to 0.65. Let's see how it goes from here 🌱

CanOli95 Die Woche lief besser als erwartet. Das umtopfen und Rücktrocknen tat den Ladies gut und die haben sich so langsam akklimatisiert. Sie sind ein wenig blass, aber nicht so stark wie es auf den belichteten Bildern vermuten lässt. Die haben Hunger und wollen wachsen. Deshalb habe ich sie umgetopft und die Dosis erhöht, damit sie wieder mehr Chlorophyll aufbauen können. Die halbtot geglaubte hat sie nach ein paar Tagen ebenfalls wieder erholt und man merkt es ihr nicht an. Ich bin zufrieden und freue mich auf weiteres Wachstum 🌱

CanOli95 The sprouts are developing well 🌱 The green is getting stronger, and you can tell they're hungry. I've increased the EC to 1.5 and watered them well. The plants are showing a rapid growth rate in their roots, so they're already starting to grow out of the pot. I'm going to split the project at this point. All three plants will be repotted. Two will get 11-liter pots in Coco and will soon be transferred to the Autopot system for outdoor growing. The other will be repotted in 11 liters of soil, will get another week of veg, and then will be flowered indoors. This way, I can check the characteristics a bit earlier before the outdoor plants are finished at the end of September / beginning of October.

CanOli95 Wow, what a week. We had record heat this week, which is only slightly easing up. I have to remove some leaves due to heat damage, but overall they’ve come through well. They unfortunately have to adapt because the harsh conditions require it. They’ve still grown quite well, and I was able to top one already. Today I transplanted them into their final pots. They can now root for another 2 weeks before moving into the Autopot. At the bottom of the pot, there's the copper mesh from Autopot, topped with about a 5 cm layer of expanded clay that I soaked in the nutrient solution. I mixed the coco substrate with some perlite to improve aeration. This is the first time I'm growing with an Autopot system. I'm curious to see if it really works as well as it's praised. It will also be necessary because I will be out of the country around the expected harvest time, so a friend will take over. Overall, they are growing well, but I have the impression that they can actually handle the full dose according to the Canna schedule well. In one photo, they look a bit light, but I can assure you that it’s not like that in reality.

CanOli95 All in all, a relaxed week. The temperatures have dropped significantly, and it has often been windy. The plants were tied up a bit for support to help them out. The ladies are looking healthy and show no deficiencies. There's a slight infestation of thrips, but since they're outdoors, that's to be expected. I'm just waiting for beneficial insects to join in on their own and will only intervene if it gets out of hand. The plants are producing nice big leaves, and I'm curious to see what else is coming.

CanOli95 Vegi Week 6 🌱 The growth is going very well. For my first Coco grow, I can't complain. The plants are thriving and enjoying themselves. I've topped some shoots, and there hasn't been any delay in growth. They just keep growing happily. A few spots from pest infestation are visible, but everything is still OK, and I'm waiting for natural predators to join in. I only removed 1 caterpillar yesterday as a precaution because it was eating too much in too short a time. So far, it's an interesting strain that is starting to grow bushier and is still easy to control in height. I've increased the nutrient dosage to about 3 to 3.5 ml per liter, which is definitely doing them good. They are watered twice daily and are expected to be connected to an Autopot system next weekend. What's interesting about this strain is that they have a good sense of day length. They quickly droop their leaves when deep red light comes in, and stand back up stiff like a soldier the next morning. I'm curious to see how it will continue.

CanOli95 The week went very relaxed. They are just growing strong on their own. I have now moved them into the Autopots and will see how they take to it. I initially continued with 1.5 EC, but due to the lack of drainage, I will use a lower one at 1.3 for now and see how the ladies develop from that. The ladies are developing well, but they are a bit too lanky for my taste. The stems could be a bit sturdier, but that might also be due to the weather, and I don't think the strain is a classic outdoor variety, except maybe for Spain. That's why I also bought the Hesilico and slightly overdosed (1ml per l) to dampen the growth during the stretch a bit.

CanOli95 The next week of vegetation has gone very well. The plants are really growing very well, almost too well. I have increased the dosage of Hesilico to further enhance the stem thickness growth and slow down the height growth. Additionally, I have bent the highest shoots to hinder the sap flow, allowing for thicker growth at the nodes. This keeps them at an even height and makes the canopy a bit more manageable. As you can see in the photos, it hasn't harmed the shoots; they are still growing and are being supplied with nutrients and water. This is particularly evident from the fact that turgor is still fully present, meaning the leaves aren't drooping from the break. I’m also very pleased that all the internodes are filled with preflowers. It can't be long now, a maximum of 2 weeks, until I can declare the weeks as flowering.

CanOli95 The week is going very relaxed and it's getting a bit warmer again. The plants are drinking well and consuming about 5 liters of nutrient solution per day. The Autopot system is working excellently so far, and I'm really impressed by how much bigger the comparison is to the plant in soil. The Coco plants are twice as big and twice as bushy. They are also noticeably greener and have thicker stems. For me, that's a reason to use them for seedlings in the outdoor area next year at most, and then quickly switch back to Coco. The plants are showing explosive growth and forming pre-flowers and massive shoots everywhere. We have about 15 to 15 and a half hours of sunlight, but the ladies are transitioning from the vegetative to the generative phase. So far, everything is going according to plan, but my Coco fertilizer has run out. In the future, I will mix something myself from the Yara Liva, Hakaphos, and Epsom salt corner to achieve the optimal ppm.

CanOli95 What a week. First temperature spikes, now it's rapidly going downhill. The two plants in the Autopot drank almost 40 liters in just 2 days during the hot days. I came home from work and found them with drooping leaves. After quickly refilling the reservoir, they started to perk up again very quickly. However, the plant that stood more in the sun suffered slight heat damage on its front. Fortunately, the damage is well contained, but now we unfortunately have 2 cold and rainy weeks ahead of us. Not much will happen with photosynthesis and metabolism, so I'll adjust the nutrient refill accordingly downwards. The plants are looking lush and green anyway and could handle a bit less. But what can you say, it's outdoor and you know what you're getting into. Summer is not over yet, and there will be better days again.

CanOli95 The supply through the Autopots works excellently. I'm really still amazed at how this system can supply 2 plants in such a way that these two 11-liter pots (with drainage!) can produce such "trees." The pistils are becoming more pronounced, and it's slowly starting to get going. One plant shows slightly purple stems, which I would attribute more to the cool nights that significantly hinder phosphorus uptake. At night, we sometimes drop below 14 degrees, and during the day, it's just above 20, sometimes nearing the 30-degree mark. But that's just part of it. I'm just a bit worried that the plants will get too big and snap in the wind. That's why I've doubled the supply of silicon as a precaution. I've reduced the general fertilizer to an EC of 1.0 because the plants can't metabolize much in this weather anyway, but what they can, works well through the CEC of the coco and helps counteract salt buildup.

CanOli95 It's getting pretty chilly and windy. The plant on the right has fallen over a few times and has pulled the Autopot with it. Still, it looks pretty good. I'm even more excited that you can finally see the flowering clearly. From the nutrient supply side, everything looks great so far; the system is working very well. A few caterpillars have joined under the leaves, which you can see from the bite marks. Still, I won't spray anything; I'll accept a little less yield. I'm really curious to see what the further development will bring.

CanOli95 The beginning of autumn really doesn't make things easy for the plants. The wind regularly knocks the plants over, and with that, the opportunity to react accordingly goes away. This morning, both plants were on the ground again. The Autopots were tipped over, and the tank ran empty... For next year, I really need to organize it differently. I'll probably build a wooden plant cage that I can use to properly secure the branches so that nothing breaks off and the plants aren't knocked over. I just underestimated it.

CanOli95 Compared to last week, not much has changed. The plants look unchanged at least on the leaf side. However, the flowers are getting bigger as expected. Still, I'm reducing nutrients a bit because there's just too much nitrogen present. By mid-October, the scissors should be clinking, otherwise, it won't happen. I've minimized the Hakaphos base, increased calcium and magnesium, and added a bit of potassium sulfate. I've also weighed down the pots with stone slabs, which is why the pots did NOT tip over this week.

CanOli95 Another week is done. The week was very cold again. We had nighttime temperatures of around 8 degrees, during the day it sometimes gets to about 20 degrees or a bit above. I reduced the EC value in the tank to 0.8 because the plants hardly metabolize nutrients in this weather. Next week, we’re supposed to get a few warmer days, almost up to 30 degrees. Then they will drink more and ripen better. Still, you can see from week to week how the buds are getting bigger and frostier. Slowly, a very sweet scent is settling in the air, which doesn’t really smell citrusy or like orange yet. The plants still have 3 weeks to go, so let’s see what happens. On the larger leaves, there are some feeding spots from caterpillars, but it doesn’t seem to harm the ladies significantly. I’ll be on vacation for a longer time soon, a substitute will take care of things, and the diary will probably be a bit shorter in text.
