Started these little ladies on 5/8. Soaked the seeds in RO water for 24 hours. Then placed them in a paper towel for about 36 hours. One of the seeds had begun to crack and show its tap root while it was soaking. The tap roots eye all long and healthy.
I planted them in Jiffy Pellets that I first soaked in RO water and Organocide. They sprouted within 18 hours.
Week two and they are coming along great. I transplanted then info these little 4in seedling pots using Roots Organics Original soil. I'm keeping them in this nursery tent with plenty of ventilation and high humidity. They are loving it. No nutrients yet.
They are growing bigger and stronger each day.. They are loving their environment. I really like this little nursery tent. It keeps them nice and humid and warm.
Gave the ladies their first dose of nutrients. I made sure they were very diluted. they loved it. When I came to check on them, they were all praying. Yay.
6/13 - It's the beginning of week 3 and 2 of my 3 Jack Herers are suffering from Zinc deficiency. I noticed this yesterday and believe this is a root issue and not a pH issue. They have most likely outgrown these little 4 inch nursery pots and used up all the nutrients in the soil. I'm about a week late in transplanting them as is. I was going to do it last week, but my schedule got thrown off. I knew I would have to leave them in a bit longer so I gave them a very light feeding last week as I was afraid to burn them. However, it turns out for these two, it most likely wasn't enough. I will be transplanting them into 1 gal pots tomorrow with brand new Roots Organic original soil amended with Roots Organics Uprising Foundation. That should take care of any issues.
6/15 - Transplanted all three Jacks into 1 gallon pots. I started with Roots Organics Original soil then added some Oregonism XL to the root ball and a good amount inside of the hole before planting. Then, I top dressed all with some Uprising Foundation also by Roots Organics. .
For gnat prevention, I used Bti (Bacillus thuringiensis) aka mosquito bits. I also added some Uprising Grow, as a dry amendment to the one plant that were showing deficiencies for a little extra boost going forward. Finally, I watered everyone with compost tea that I brewed for 18 hrs. They are already looking stronger and healthier.
6/21 - Week 7 and they are still struggling. I replanted them into 1 gallon pots, added some dry ammendments, watered, nothing has been able to bring them back. Today I gave them some liquid nutrients including Buddha Grow, Trinity, Surge, Extreme Serene, and Cal Mag.
6/24 - Still no improvement and one of them is struggling badly. I decided to brew some compost tea to see if that has any effect. I'm including the following:
5 gallons RO Water
3 Cups Coast of Maine Organic Compost
2 Cups Organic Mechanics Worm Castings
2 tbs Down to Earth Alfalfa meal
4 tbs Trinity Catalyst
2 Tbs organic, unsulfered, black strap molasses
I will let it brow for 24 hours and water tomorrow and use it as a foliar spray. Fingers crossed.
6/29 - 4 days after I gave everyone the compost tea, the Jack Herers have sprung back to life! The compost tea was a literal life saver. Just a few days later and her leaves have smoothed out, there's virtually none of that glossy, dark green, twisted and gnarled growth. They are looking great!
6/30 - Top dressed all with Uprising Grow and Uprising Foundation
7/1 - Today I did a little selective defoliation on the Jacks. They are looking stronger and stronger each day.
7/2 - Today was feeding day. Gave them a dose of their regular nutrients. They are very happy!
7/3 - Added some red wigglers today! I ordered some Red Wigglers from Uncle Jim's Worm Farm and they arrived today. I added about 10 to each pot then moistened the soil a bit with just RO water pH to 6.6. I can't wait to watch them do their thing!
7/4 - When I came into the tent this morning all the Jacks were praying! Even my little Struggling Jack (who is looking great). I have to believe it was the worms. I did nothing else.
I watered all with Trinity and RO Water. JH2 has nearly completely recovered from her deficiencies. Her leaves look great. Very little sign of any of the previous damage.
7/6 - I'm amazed at how well JH2 is doing! I had to take a little video to show how well she has recovered. She has nearly no visible damage left to her leaves. She is very green and looks happy. The other two have completely recovered, but they were no where near as bad as JH2 was. I watered them today with just RO water, CalMag, and Extreme Serene as they will get fed tomorrow. I also did a foliar spray of the Extreme Serene on all.
7/9 - Watered with RO water and Molasses today. The Jack Herers look super healthy and happy, even the one that was struggling. I left one of the Jack o'natural. I didn't top her or do any real LST because she had some deficiencies at the time and I didn't want to stunt her even further. Now that she's healthy, it's too late. I'm flipping them to flower next week and that's just not enough time for her to recover. So, I thought I would leave her as is and see how she turns out in her natural, Xmas tree shape!
7/11 - Top dressed all with Foundation Grow, Foundation Uprising, Oregonism XL, and Nitro Bat Guano. Watered w/ RO water & Extreme Serene. They are looking great.
7/12 - Fed with liquid nutrients today followed by some selective defoliation. Also adjusted the LST and added a little coco mulch.
7/14 - Watered with plain RO water and added Mosquito bits for pest prevention. Also did a foliar spray of Ancient Amber. They look very happy and healthy. JH2, aka Struggling Jack, is fully recovered and is actually my biggest, fullest of the three Jacks! She is so beautiful and strong. Go compost tea and worms!!!
7/18 - Transplanted all three ladies into 3 gallon pots. As I did I sprinkled Oregonism XL (mycorrhizae) to the root ball to assist the roots in adhering happily to the soil. Then I watered with RO water and CalMag.
7/20 - Fed with liquid nutrients
7/22 - Started the brew on Terp Tea Grow. Gave all a light water and a foliar spray of Extreme Serene.
7/24 - Top dressed with Elemental (calcium supplement) and watered with the Terp Tea Grow. Both ladies are looking healthy and strong. They are full and vibrant. Will be flipping to flower at the end of next week!
7/25 - Check out Struggling Jack! She is the biggest one of all three! You would never guess she ever struggled. It's my opinion that the struggle actually made her stronger. Go Jack!
7/26 - Just gave them light watering today with RO water & CalMag
7/27 - Liquid feeding time. All is well in veg!
7/29 - Just a light watering today and a foliar spray of Ancient Amber. This is their last week of veg!! I plan to flip them to flower this weekend!
8/10 - In prep for flower I've got some Compost Tea brewing with a little Terp Tea Bloom by Roots Organics. .Also did a little selective defoliation
8/11 - Flipped the ladies to flower today! And all is good in the 8x4.
8/12 - Watered all the ladies with the Compost/Terp Tea. Also did some more defoliation and added some mosquito bits for added pest prevention.
8/17 - Fed the ladies with liquid nutrients today. Also did some selective defoliation. The soil looks really healthy. You can see how happy my worms are. The two are coming along nicely and just starting to bud.
8/19 - Top fed all the ladies today with Uprising Grow, Uprising Bloom, and Elemental.
8/21 - They are in bloom! They are beginning to flower and looking lovely. In between feedings I water with RO water and molasses. They seem to love it.
8/24 - Blooming along nicely! Watering just about every day now. Added some mulch to the tops that I made from the dried leaves I take during defoliation. Hoping to keep the tops a little more moist.
