This seedling is four days old. This is an oldschool outdoor grow spot that I’ve used, so this is just for fun. I seeded it in a peat pot outdoors. The area gets partial sun and about 5-6 hours of direct sunlight. I am in the Canadian Maritimes in terms of climate. The projected daytime high is 24 degrees celsius. Total daytime sunlight hours is 15hours44minutes. I mixed in tilled outdoor soil, outdoor garden compost, and any leftover amendments from my indoor grows.
Day 11 from seed. It rained all night. Still lots of below the soil development. The daytime high is projected to be 24 degrees celsius. The current daylight hours is 15hours49minutes.
Day 18 from seed. Just starting to take off now. The nighttime temperatures have been low for the typical June. I suspect that may be why the leaves look a little frayed. Daytime high today is 24 degrees celsius. Daytime light hours is 15hours50minutes.
Day 25 from seed. Slow progress, it is coming along. This Hash Plant looks different from my indoor grows, possibly because of the early temperature swings. I expect this will have rapid growth if I can get some consistent sun! This is the better of my two current ‘seeded outdoor’ seedlings.
The current daytime hours is 15hours48minutes. The daytime high is expected to be 18 degrees celsius.
Day 32 from seed. Steady ... no changes. Just growing and trying to gain size. The summer has been typical Canadian inconsistent, cold nighttime temperatures with a few hot blistering days here and there. I’m not concerned, but stable environment is not the benefit of outdoor growing. No food or anything yet, just top dressed the soil. Everything is still green.
The predicted daytime high is 25 degrees celsius, the nighttime hours is 15hours41minutes.
Day 39 from seed. I am trying to slow the growth in terms of height, and get some multi-branching, so I topped this one and selectively took off two fan leaves. The stem is nice and thick. This plant will be nice and stout. I would think it has at least 2-3 weeks before stretch starts.
Daytime projected high is 25 degrees celsius, daytime length is 15hours31 minutes.
Day 46 from seed. Lots of steady growth. Still debating tying it over, but it has two nice pronounced tops. A gave a little plant food boost feeding 24-8-16 All Purpose Miracle Grow plant food with a dip of blackstrap molasses, but the rain generally washes that away.
Rain today. The daytime high is 24 degrees celsius, the daytime length is 15hours19minutes.
Day 52 from seed. Just water lately, and it is probably due for some tomorrow. I may start transitioning to flowering food as I expect stretch in the coming weeks. Everything is going well in the meantime.
Daytime high was 31 degrees celsius today. The daytime length is 15hours9minutes.
Day 62 from seed. I am officially starting to count flower as the plant has stretched like crazy, and is starting to smell strongly! Surprisingly, this is currently my tallest plant. Of course, others have been tied down, but I expected Hash Plant to be the shortest/stoutest. I fed some 18-18-21 Tomato Miracle Grow plant food last week for a little boost. Looking good!
Daytime is projected as 28 degrees celsius, the daytime length is down to 14hours41minutes.
Day 67 from seed. Wowzers, this baby became huge. Bigtime stretch from Hash Plant, outdoors in a Maritime Canadian climate. I’m impressed ... now lets see those buds. The projected daytime high is 19 degrees Celsius. The daytime length is 14hours17minutes.
Day 75 from seed. Looking a little light green, with some yellowing near the bottom. I recently fed 18-18-21 Tomato Miracle Grow plant food with a dip of Earth Alive Big Blue Alga and blackstrap molasses. The soil that I didn’t transplant into the location is not ideal and so i have been having drainage issues, and likely why the plant maybe didn’t absorb as much nutrients as I’d like. I’m not concerned. I’m more concerned with the adjacent flood lamp from local industry, as stated earlier in the diary the window/fenceline was my threshold, and Hash Plant has basically stretched past. We shall see if there are any seeds in the buds or if anything else happens. Otherwise, massive plant for less than 100 days!
Pouring rain today so no ideal. The projected high is 23 degrees Celsius, the daytime length is 14hours7minutes.
Day 82 from seed. This game plant is my big stretcher, and it now officially touches the light threshold from the nearby industry. The very tips of the crowns appear to be in direct flood lamp all night. I won’t be doing anything about it at this point so I am curious if there will be seeds. Also, this plant has been ravaged by pests. It seems that I always find multiple grasshoppers having a meal, and most leaves have holes throughout. I have other plants in the area, and thus far Hash Plant seems more susceptible. I recently fed 2-7-7 Shultz Cactus plant food with a dip of Earth Alive Big Blue Alga and blackstrap molasses.
Nice pronounced buds now. The projected daytime high is 22 degrees celsius, the daytime length is 13hours45minutes.
Day 90 from seed. This plant has stretched and stretched, not sure if its because of nighttime light pollution, but the main stalk is impressive. I am hoping the buds swell and close all that node spacing. The plant seems to have been unphased with the repeated insect attacks, and seems recovered. I’ll be looking to give flowering food soon and then cut it off completely.
Nights are getting colder and hitting single digit temps. The daytime high today is projected 18 degrees celsius. The daytime length is 13hours21minutes.
Day 96 from seed. The buds are starting to get very dense. They are rock hard upon inspection. You can see the advancement of nitrogen deficiency as harvest nears. The nights are getting much colder. We got the remnants of Hurricane Dorian in the form of heavy rain and winds. This pummeled the plant all day yesterday. I will watch for mold but the flowers are small yet.
Projected daytime high is 18 degrees Celsius, the daytime length is 13hours1minute.
Day 103 from seed. Everything is looking good as this plant has become quite the beast. I gave 0-10-10 Alaskan Morbloom plant food with a dip of blackstrap molasses which will be the last of the nutrients. Not the most fragrant, less smell then the other plants. Nice thick stem. Harvest is soon, first week of October.
The projected high is 22 degrees Celsius, the daylight length is 12hours38minutes.
Day 109 from seed. This plant is almost done. The projected finish is the first week of October, so I may harvest next weekend. I have a backlog of indoor grows so I don’t mind chopping this Hash plant on Sept. 28/29. We shall see, I’ll look to update one last time anyway. Nothing much to add other than no plant food of course, just allowing rain and the using up of resources. You can see plenty of yellowed leaves advancement. Buds have a good smell, just sort of traditional.
The projected high is 22 degrees, and the daytime length is 12hours18minutes.
No issues until the end. Weeeeeak!
The week it was finishing we experienced bad rain and humidity, and had experienced mold on a different plant earlier in the summer, so I ended up compromising - I gradually harvested in two sessions, and at my convenience. I couldn’t line up my harvest time with the ideal, so I cut the fluff on a rainy day (double bad), and the crown buds in the daytime on a dry day (not good time of day). This effected the drying of the popcorn buds, and probably the curing of the entire crop.
I am now debating whether to do an outdoor grow in this location again. Maybe just indoor from now on...
I have a ton of seeds now, unfortunately because of the nature of the origin they aren’t viable - they have a tendency to produce hermaphrodite, mutated plants. At least thats my experience with this same grow spot last summer, and the subsequent seeds. Now what to do with the seeds. Who knows, maybe I’ll do something nefarious in nature.
