RootToRosin Week 1 – Permanent Marker Clone Test 2026 With this grow, a documented test run of a Permanent Marker cutting (Doja Exclusives Cut) from a friend’s cutting shop begins. The goal is to document the plant's development from taking over as a rooted cutting to harvest under identical conditions and to evaluate the quality of the starting material as objectively as possible. The cutting was placed two days ago in Plagron clay pebble/coconut hydromix (60/40) and is growing under a Maxibright LED in the AutoPot system. It is being fed with the Athena Blended Line. The focus of this run is not on maximum yield, but on plant vitality, structure, resin production, flower quality, and later product photos. At the start, the Permanent Marker appears overall healthy and stable, but compared to the other tested cuttings, it shows the slimmest and most vertically shaped structure. The plant has a dominant main stem, slightly larger internodal distances, and currently less pronounced side branches. Despite this somewhat reserved starting structure, no relevant stress symptoms, necrosis, or visible growth problems are noticeable. The new growth looks healthy, and the plant seems to tolerate the switch to the new substrate well. What will be particularly interesting with this genetics is how much it develops side branches in the coming weeks and how its stretch behavior evolves after switching to flowering. Especially with Permanent Marker, the later performance is often much more exciting than the first impression in the early vegetative phase. After the first two days, the plant leaves a solid but still somewhat reserved impression. For this test grow, it will be particularly exciting to see if the Permanent Marker catches up in the further course and can show its potential regarding flower structure, resin production, and bag appeal.

RootToRosin Week 2 – Permanent Marker Clone Test 2026 The Permanent Marker is starting off noticeably more stable in the second week after planting. While it appeared a bit slimmer and more reserved in the first update, it now shows visibly more active growth and seems to have established itself well in the new substrate. What stands out is the interesting growth form for this genetic variety: the plant grows more vertically, has a dominant main stem, and shows slightly larger internodal distances compared to the more compact plants in the comparison grow. At the same time, the side branches are now developing increasingly actively, which is very positive for the overall structure. The distance to the lamp has been reduced to about 60cm to keep it a bit more compact. The new growth looks healthy, fresh, and even. The leaves show a clean shape, and relevant stress symptoms, necrosis, or visible growth problems are currently not recognizable. The stem structure also appears more stable than at the beginning, indicating that the plant has handled the transition after planting well. Compared to strains with more compact growth like Super Buff Cherry #26, the Permanent Marker currently shows more stretch potential and a significantly stronger apical dominance. This behavior makes it particularly exciting moving forward, as it could indicate early on how much the plant will stretch later in flowering and how the side branches will develop into viable flower sites. The Permanent Marker leaves a promising impression at the beginning of week 2. It looks vigorous, eager to grow, and genetically clearly structured differently than the other cuts in the test.

RootToRosin Week 3 – Permanent Marker Clone Test 2026 The Permanent Marker is visibly strong in the early flowering phase starting in week 3. From day 1 of week 3, the light schedule was switched to 12/12 and the AutoPot system was activated at the same time. Currently, Athena Blended Bloom week 1 is being used, slightly reduced to an EC of 2.1. The pH level is at 5.8. The light is running at 376 W at about 60 cm distance. Currently, the Permanent Marker measures 55 cm, making it the tallest plant in the comparison grow. It showed a distinctly vertical growth early on, with stronger apical dominance and slightly longer internodes than the more compact genetics. This picture is confirmed as the flowering phase begins. The plant appears healthy and eager to grow, but it clearly grows taller rather than wider. At the same time, the side branches are developing increasingly actively, which is positive for the later flower structure. The new growth looks vital and even, with no relevant stress symptoms, larger necroses, or growth problems currently visible. The plant seems to be handling the transition to flowering and the activation of the AutoPot system well so far. What’s particularly exciting about the Permanent Marker now is its stretch behavior. Due to its current height and growth form, it has the clearest stretch potential in comparison. In the coming days, it will show how strongly it reacts to the flowering transition and how the side branches develop into viable flower sites.

RootToRosin Flowering Week 2 – Permanent Marker Clone Test 2026 The Permanent Marker continues to show the strongest stretch in the entire comparison grow during flowering week 2. It's running in the AutoPot system with Plagron clay/coconut hydromix and is being fed with the Athena Blended Line. The pH level is at 5.8, and the Athena Bloom schedule has been set to an EC of 2.3. Currently, the Permanent Marker measures 72 cm, making it significantly taller than the other three plants. It showed vertical growth early on with stronger apical dominance and longer internodes. This behavior is now clearly confirmed in flowering week 2. The plant appears overall healthy, vigorous, and eager to grow. The main stem remains dominant, while the side branches are becoming increasingly active. The structure is more open than that of Cap Junky or Super Buff Cherry #26, which can be beneficial for good airflow between the branches later on. The flower sites are starting to visibly develop. Relevant stress symptoms, larger necroses, or significant growth problems are not currently noticeable. However, due to the increased height, the light distance will be monitored particularly closely in the coming weeks.

RootToRosin Permanent Marker – Flowering Week 3 The Permanent Marker reaches a height of 105 cm in flowering week 3, making it the clearly strongest stretch candidate of the comparison grow. The plant grows exceptionally vertically and has longer internodes than the other cuts. The AutoPot system runs actively throughout the week. It is fed with the Athena Blended Bloom Line. At the beginning of the week, the nutrient solution is around EC 2.53 and pH 5.7. After about three days, EC measures around 2.59 and pH 6.0. Since the tank and tray show nearly identical values, no noticeable accumulation in the AutoPot tray area is observed. The climate is predominantly at 25–26 °C and about 65–70% relative humidity. The light output is increased to 500 watts over the course of the week. Due to the particularly strong stretch, the top of the Permanent Marker occasionally comes very close to the light. The distance is briefly only about 20 cm, which is why the lamp is raised further to maximum height. Despite the short distance, the plant does not show any significant bleaching symptoms or severe light damage at this point. The leaf structure remains overall stable, and the young flower clusters continue to develop along the long main and side branches. The open structure improves air movement between the individual flower clusters. At the same time, numerous independent side branches are formed. The Permanent Marker already shows in flowering week 3 that sufficient height space or early height control should be planned for this cut. In return, the plant offers many well-distributed bud sites and a high potential for long, spear-shaped flower shoots.

RootToRosin Permanent Marker – Flowering Week 4 The Clean-out also takes place at BT22 for the Permanent Marker. During this process, the lower, poorly lit shoots, popcorn buds, and excess leaves are removed. After the trim, the light intensity is reduced to 75% for one day. The Permanent Marker continues its exceptionally strong stretch into the fourth week of flowering. Its height increases from approximately 105 to 126 cm, which corresponds to a growth of around 21 cm. This keeps it by far the tallest plant in the tent. Due to the strong height development, the upper shoots are increasingly getting closer to the lamp. At the top, temperatures of about 27 °C are measured with around 54% relative humidity. At this point, the increasing light and heat pressure is more of a concern than a nutrient problem. Unfortunately, there’s no more upward adjustment possible; I hadn’t planned for this massive stretch of nearly 300% so far. The plant develops a very open and elongated structure with larger distances between the flower sites. At the same time, it remains overall vital and reliably continues its flower development. Furthermore, fertilization continues according to the Athena-Bloom schedule for week 4 at around EC 2.65 and pH 5.9. Overall, the Permanent Marker remains healthy but is already clearly showing its greatest characteristic and challenge with its extreme stretch.

RootToRosin Permanent Marker – Flowering Week 5 Permanent Marker starts the fifth week of flowering at about 126 cm tall. Compared to the previous measurement, the height hardly changes anymore, and the extreme stretch is largely completed. The plant remains the tallest genetics in the tent and its upper buds are still very close to the LED. As a result, the stress increasingly concentrates on the bud tips. There, the first signs of bleaching are visible, while the rest of the plant still appears vigorous. Permanent Marker retains its open and elongated structure with larger gaps between the bud sites. Now it begins to fill out the existing bud stacks more. Despite the high light pressure, the development of flowers and resin continues reliably. It is still being fed according to the Athena-Bloom schedule for week 5 at about EC 2.4 and pH 5.7. The climate is mostly at 26–27 °C and 60–63 % RH. The biggest challenge remains the small distance to the lamp, while the plant otherwise continues to bloom steadily. Some of the tallest buds are expected to develop bleached tops, as the distance to the LED cannot be increased further. In this run, training and early height control are deliberately omitted to assess the natural growth form and stretching behavior of the genetics unaltered. Depending on the final result, a second round may follow, where the height is controlled early on.

RootToRosin Permanent Marker – Flowering Week 6 The Permanent Marker remains the tallest plant in the tent at around 126 cm. While the stretch is over, the effects of the extreme height growth are becoming increasingly visible this week. Some of the highest top buds are now only about 15–20 cm away from the LED. These exposed flowers are showing noticeable bleaching. Since the lamp cannot be raised any further, light stress on these tips cannot be completely avoided in the current setup. The light intensity is not adjusted to achieve the best possible summer run results from the remaining 3 genetics. Aside from the top buds, the plant remains vigorous. The flowers continue to develop, visibly building mass and already showing a strong resin content. The open, elongated structure of the genetics remains clearly recognizable. Feeding is also done according to the Athena-Bloom schedule for week 6 at around EC 2.4 and pH 5.6. As it finally cools down a bit at night, the climate this week is predominantly at 24–25 °C and 55–58 % RH. The Permanent Marker thus remains the most demanding genetics of the run. Its extreme natural stretch leads to significant light stress on the highest tops, while the rest of the plant area continues to develop stably.
