Here we are growing Strawberry Guava BX from Bloom Seed Co.
A glass of water was prepared with 2 drops of Seedbooster and a few drops of hydrogen peroxide. The seed soaked in it for about 15 hours before going into the seedling pot. The substrate was watered with BioEnhancer to a pH of 5.8. A small dome was placed on the seedling pot to create the optimal conditions needed for germination.
When the very young Strawberry Guava BX saw the light, the small plastic dome was removed from the seedling pot, and it could take its first breaths of air.
...and the journey can begin.
Backup seeds were 2x Fruity Pebbles from Gas Station and one seed from the first S1 cross of OceanTruffle. These also all germinated.💚
In this grow, the "just add water" method will be presented. Here, the substrate is initially prepared with tabs, Startrex, and Silicium Flash. Before switching to the flowering cycle, there will be another top feeding with Silicium Flash. Additionally, in week 2/3 of flowering, a compost tea will be given. The rest will be taken care of by the microorganisms and the slow-release fertilizers in the substrate.
Startrex is an organic soil enhancer and bio-fertilizer in one. (N-P-K 3:1:2). Startrex contains silicon (Si), humus, and fulvic acid. It also enriches the substrate with beneficial bacteria.
Silicium Flash is 100% organic and provides the plants with quickly available amounts of silicon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Silicium Flash strengthens the plants' resistance, for example, against heat, drought, pests, and pathogens. The nutrient uptake of the plants is noticeably increased, leading to overall stronger plants and higher yields. BioTabs Silicium Flash is immediately available to the plants and is absorbed extremely quickly. The remaining nutrients are then slowly released to the plants over the course of 2 months.
For the 12L substrate, 60g (5g/L) of Startrex was completely mixed with the substrate. From the 62g of Silicium Flash, 40g were mixed into the lower half of the substrate, and the last 22g were added to the surface of the substrate. In each planting hole, 5g of Mycotrex were distributed. Mycotrex is a mix of nine types of mycorrhiza spores, beneficial rhizobacteria, seaweed meal, and humic acid. This allows the plants to better absorb water and minerals, significantly maximizing their growth.
For the 12L fabric pots, 2 tabs are placed at mid-height in the mixed substrate. The 2 tabs are sufficient as the main fertilizer for the entire cycle of the plant.
Watering was done with Bactrex and Orgatrex.
Bactrex is an organic soil fertility enhancer with beneficial soil and root microbes. It contains fungi of the Trichoderma genus, various Bacillus bacteria, and the included root bacteria improve soil structure and increase plant fertility.
Trichoderma fungi combat diseases caused by other harmful fungi. Bacillus bacteria help the plant regulate diseases naturally and make valuable nitrogen and phosphorus available to the plants.
Orgatrex is a 100% organic booster for growth and flowering. The base of Orgatrex is made from alfalfa plant meal, and it is also packed with trace elements and sugars from various molasses, potassium vinasse, silicon oxide, and broken minerals. Orgatrex is thus a bio-booster for robust and healthy growth.

After a week in the seedling pot, Strawberry Lobster was transferred to its final pot. On day 7, it was repotted. The two ladies moved into a 12L fabric pot. The Strawberry Lobster has made itself comfortable in the 60×60×160 cm DiamondBox under the Sanlight Q3W gen.2 with a maximum output of 120W.
The Sanlight Q3W was dimmed to 50%=60W on day 7 for repotting. This gives the ladies about 400ppfd. The distance from the LED to the ladies is 40cm. This setting will remain until the switch to 12/12.
In this grow, the "just add water" method is being introduced. Here, the substrate (a light mix in this case) is initially prepared with the tabs, Startrex, and Silicium Flash. Before switching to the flowering cycle, there will be another top feeding with Silicium Flash. Additionally, in weeks 2/3 of flowering, a compost tea will be given. In week 2 of vegetation, there wasn't much to do. The "just add water" method from Biotabs is starting to be fun. It minimizes the time spent watering even more. The still very young Strawberry Guava BX is handling the mixed substrate fabulously and is developing splendidly.

The Strawberry Guava is developing wonderfully. You can tell it's eager to grow tall. The topping was done on Day 20. So far, the main and side shoots are still quite delicate. Hopefully, this will balance out a bit when the side shoots get going with the topping. Due to the strong upward growth, all side shoots will receive a topping next week to help control the growth a bit. The main shoot has been bent with bud clips to counteract the height growth as early as possible.
The Bio Tabs method is really unusually relaxing☺️ every time you want to water the plants, you realize it only needs water, and you can get started right away. This saves an incredible amount of time every time. I'm already really liking this. The leaf color and overall condition of the plant look so incredibly good!
The environmental conditions are currently hell or at least not far from it. I waited a bit too long with the climate devices🤣 now there are only the loud ones that consume an outrageous amount of electricity. So, I guess I’ll have to tough it out this summer😆 The VPD is still quite pleasant to maintain. And now in the early growth phase, the temperatures aren't too concerning.

The Strawberry Guava BX is currently the most delicate of all, but it's growing wonderfully. Here and there, the leaves look a bit odd, but overall it seems healthy and has good growth. By the end of the week, it made another little jump in height. We're already working a bit more aggressively with LST because this lady is stretching a bit above average already. There will also be a slow transition into flowering when the time comes, to keep the stretch as minimal as possible.

At the beginning of this week, for the first time since transplanting, I watered with 10ml/L Orgatrex and 1g/L Bactrex as additives to give the soil life a little boost.
The Strawberry Guava BX was only topped on the longest shoots. Otherwise, only LST is being used. The side branches are developing quite well now. I think next week with the scrog net, a nice canopy will form. Midweek, the lower shoot was taken as a cutting. The growth of this pheno so far is not what you look for when working with the genetics in the form of crosses. If this pheno surprisingly has good stacking in flowering (which I don’t think will happen with the long internodes during growth), along with strong strawberry terps and ideally above-average yield, those would be reasons to grow this pheno as a cutting again and possibly take pollen from it.

At the beginning of this week, the first layer of the Scrog net was installed. This serves as a little help to promote and shape the desired canopy. Some of the shoots that are too eager are placed back under the Scrog net. For the shoots that were particularly eager, I used bud clips, while for the other shoots, twisting them and placing them under the net was sufficient. The second layer of the Scrog net will come into the tent around week 2 of flowering to support and evenly distribute the shoots.
This week, flowering was also slowly initiated. The light was reduced daily by 1 hour, and the light intensity was slightly increased for each hour reduced. If you only decrease the exposure time but do not increase the intensity, the DLI drops. This signals to the plant anything but that it will soon enter flowering. The slow transition into flowering of one hour less light each day is meant to ensure that the plant does not stretch unnecessarily and that the nodes are closer together. This only happens if you slightly increase the light intensity for each hour less. If you don't do this, the DLI drops, and the plant suddenly suffers from a lack of light and may compensate by stretching a bit more to get closer to the light.

The Strawberry Guava BX turned out to be a little surprise. The side branches seem to have received the order to hurry up 😄 and now there's a nice canopy with some shoots. You can pick the best and sturdiest shoots for lollipopping and the big defoliation. The growth of the main branches was repeatedly slowed down with some banding/twisting as the stretch started, so a bit of cropping was trained to let the side branches catch up. This way, you quickly had a somewhat decent canopy to work with.
In the first week of flowering, the SanlightQ3W was running at 80% = 96W. This gave the Strawberry Guava BX around 550 ppfd. Only now in week 2 is the SanlightQ3W set to 100% = 120W. To ensure the Strawberry Guava BX gets enough light despite the "only" 120W from the SanlightQ3W, which offers around 800-850 ppfd for a proper bloom, the distance of the LED is reduced from 40 to 35cm.
Here’s a word about BioTabs and the "only water" method: it's so relaxed!!!
Up to this point, the substrate was prepared at the beginning of the grow, then the substrate was watered with 10ml/L Orgatrex and 2g/L Bactrex. Then there was only water until week 5. In week 5, it was watered once with 10ml/L Orgatrex and 1g/L Bactrex.
Only now in week 1 of flowering was 25g Silicium Flash added as a topdress. For this, a small hole is made in the substrate near the stem where the Silicium Flash is sprinkled and then covered with soil and watered with 2g/L Bactrex.

This week the second layer was installed. This was especially needed for the Strawberry Guava. The shoots are really very delicate and need support. The Guava BX also wanted to stretch a bit more. Therefore, the longest shoots were worked on one last time with bud clips to help create an even canopy. The flowering is slightly behind the Lobster, so I think that's where the extra few cm of stretch came from. The Guava is recovering quite quickly from the training itself.
On Day 53/11F, the Sanlight Q3W was set to 100%. On Day 53/11F, the Sanlight Q3W was set to 100%. To provide the Strawberry Guava BX with around 800-850 ppfd for proper flowering despite the "only" 120W of the Sanlight Q3W, the distance of the LED was reduced from 40 to 35 cm.
This week, the sleep and wake-up light was also turned on. A Far Red light strip in the 730-745nm range - the Spider Farmer SUPP-IR 16. This turns on 13 minutes before the Sanlight comes on and goes off 2 minutes after the main lighting starts, simulating sunrise. Then the Far Red turns on again as a little sleep aid for 15 minutes before the Sanlight goes off and continues for 15 minutes after the Sanlight goes off, simulating sunset. The lighting with Far Red LEDs accelerates the metabolic shift after the light goes out. This allows the ladies to recover better at night and start the new day refreshed. Plants have an absorption spectrum that sees Far Red light as an indicator of the onset of darkness. We can take advantage of this fact with artificial lighting. The so-called phytochromes are responsible for the absorption of Far Red light waves. These are a type of photoreceptor proteins that influence a variety of plant growth processes. Phytochromes control processes such as germination, flowering, and photoperiodism, which is the regulation of the day-night rhythm. Essentially, there are two types or conformations of phytochromes in plants: The Pr-form (r=red) has its absorption maximum at around 660 nm, and the Pfr-form (fr=far red) at about 730 nm. What do phytochromes have to do with plant lights? Quite simply: By using the Far Red spectrum, relevant processes such as photoperiodism can be specifically influenced to optimize nighttime recovery and thus photosynthesis, leading to better yield results. The Strawberry Guava BX has a really crazy growth pattern. Maybe it’s just the lady with the highest Sativa content so far.
A strong terp profile is still missing. Actually, the Strawberry Guava BX was meant to do a micro-reversal because it’s a pretty promising strain with a good history. However, if the terps don’t drift into the strawberry terps, there will be no micro-reversal and no second cutting run. The delicate growth is not what you’re looking for and want to pass on to work with in the future. Let’s see what the next week brings in terms of terps🍀
There was also some lollipopping done. Despite the delicate growth, there were quite a few side branches that looked like a little jungle. Some order was brought into it. Now the energy can be directed into the stronger and longer branches.
This week, the first compost tea was made. For this, 15g/L of the "PK Booster Compost Tea" was aerated in a container with distilled water for 26 hours using an aquarium pump, along with 5ml/L of Orgatrex from Bio Tabs. About 1 hour before the end of aeration, another 1g/L of Bactrex was added. For the Guava BX, 500ml of compost tea was given as recommended by Bio Tabs.
There was also a setup upgrade. The new toy is a Spiderfarmer under-canopy LED. Two bars were added to the tent. With a base area of 60x60cm, you don’t need more than two bars in a tent.
Hopefully, there will be a noticeable difference in the ripening process of the lower buds and hopefully also in the yield.
You can clearly see that the middle area, where the light usually comes in a bit harder, is now wonderfully illuminated.

In flowering week 4, there’s not much to report as usual. I find week 4 of flowering to be a pleasant time. You can already enjoy some decent flower formations, the stretch is finally over, and the terp whispers are slowly getting a bit louder and clearer. All the hard work is starting to pay off.
Here, similar terps can be noted as with the Lobster. You can tell what the Strawberry terps are or will be. Other terps aren’t really noticeable yet. But it just started this week. So, all relaxed.
There was a bit more liquid flowering booster in the form of PK5-8. It’s probably not necessary. But it can’t hurt 😄 PK5-8 has done well for all the ladies in the past.

From here on, there’s really not much to do except enjoy the growth of the buds. At the end of this week, I added another 500ml of compost tea for the Strawberry Guava BX. For this, I mixed 15g/L of the "PK Booster Compost Tea" with 5ml/L of Orgatrex from Bio Tabs in a container with distilled water and aerated it for 24 hours with an aquarium pump. About 1 hour before the aeration ended, I added another 1g/L of Bactrex. The Strawberry Guava BX received 500ml of compost tea as recommended by Bio Tabs. Additionally, I added some rock dust for the Guava BX because she’s acting a bit finicky and has a higher calcium requirement. Here and there, a few brown spots are visible on the leaves. Otherwise, she looks healthy.
The terps are starting to drift towards Strawberry Milkshake 😋. It’s somehow a sweet/creamy mix that goes along with the Strawberry terps. Both Strawberries, even though they are different crosses from different breeders, have super similar terps.

The Strawberry Guava BX unfortunately doesn't stop being a diva. The leaves have been a bit irregularly green from the start. Almost like marbled. Now the leaves are showing signs of calcium deficiency. I added some rock dust and worm humus as top feeding. By the end of the week, it’s gradually getting better. Maybe the Strawberry Guava BX is a bit hungrier. It's a bit too late for mineral CalMag for me. The soil pH is at 6.8, which is pretty good for calcium. It might be that the Strawberry Guava BX has a higher demand, while the Strawberry Lobster next door shows no signs of calcium deficiency. Both were treated the same. So I just think the Strawberry Guava BX is a little hungry diva that demands a bit more attention😄

With the Strawberry Guava BX, it's a bit more stressful than with the other ladies who are just growing and thriving in a relaxed manner. Here, I'm checking in the most and hoping she pulls through. I had to correct with a bit of CalMag this week to prevent anything worse. Since the Strawberry Lobster next door looks so vibrant, I believe it might be that the Strawberry Guava or its roots are reacting a bit more sensitively to the tap water. Maybe the water is a bit too hard for the Guava. I’m not sure. For the next or the one after that run from the Guava clone, the watering will consist of 70% tap water and 30% distilled water to see if that does her any good.
I’m already a big fan of the Strawberry Guava BX 😄 the terps are amazing. For a long time, it was Strawberry/Berry terps with a creamy/tropical touch. Slowly, the creamy/tropical is being replaced by overripe fruits. The Strawberry/Berry terps are still coming through nicely 💚
I think this round, she’s my favorite of all the ladies this run.

The slightly weakened lady had quite a struggle this week. The upcoming last week will still be manageable for the Strawberry Guava BX. For the clone run, the Strawberry Guava BX will get a little extra portion of rock dust to create a small Cal-Mag depot. The lady could definitely stand a bit longer, but due to her weakened state, she will also need to be hung up to dry by the end of next week.

@Stony_German, the terps are really unbelievably delicious. The strawberry comes through the most for me. But it has a nice kick from the red guava in the rainbow guava part. The fruit flies actually got more lost in the strawberry tent than in the cherry tent 😄 She could have been a bit less of a diva. Let's see how the clones do now that we know the genetics.

@GanjaGecko, the fussiness might come from the fact that the Straw.Guava loves it when the substrate is drier before the next watering. (Growlet.es mentions this for all Straw.Guava crosses) I had fed mine with Canna Terra Mineral and therefore didn’t have any of those fussy signs. However, it was still a bit sensitive and turned quite light green, almost yellowish, even though I think I fertilized it nearly perfectly. But that’s just a guess; I’m not sure.

@Stony_German, the feisty lady was the thirstiest of them all. When tipping the pot, she was always the lightest. If the substrate got a bit drier before watering, I'd be a little worried about the soil life. The one cutting I got to take off is in new substrate with rock dust and is being fed with mineral CalMag on the side. She looks super healthy. I'm going to mix some rock dust into the substrate for the cutting run with the feisty lady and maybe she'll get some mineral CalMag in her water 💪🏽

@GanjaGecko, Sounds like a plan. If you're watering with tap water, a very small pinch of Epsom salt might be useful. I use it to balance out the higher calcium content a bit. We get an 8:1 Cal:Mag from the tap. I know I never get it perfect at 3:1, but at least it's closer than if I did nothing. I would check your local water quality on your drinking water supplier's website. I just googled it and entered my zip code to find it. You can also use AI to calculate exactly how much Epsom salt (or also known as Bittersalz) you need to weigh out for how many liters of watering water. You probably know this, but that would be my tip if you have Cal Mag sensitive genetics.

@Stony_German, yeah great idea. I was thinking about watering with some mineral CalMag in addition to the rock dust until week 4 of flowering. And then not anymore for the last two weeks.
What I could imagine is that the PK 5-8 and the second compost tea were a bit too much of a good thing and caused a slight calcium lockout due to the high potassium.
But I'll get some Epsom salt to be able to act a bit faster👌🏼
