Lotopharg With the Deep Chunks, I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to do with them. First, I'll do my own selection indoors and then maybe take them outside next year? Partially outside, partially indoors? On the balcony after the autos? Keep them indoors over the summer? So many possibilities... First, let's see how they do. Lotopharg The Deep Chunks also suffered from dryness. I see it as a *cough* intentional stressor. All in the name of, um, selection, of course. Well, not much happened because of that. What’s interesting are mainly the round "strawberry-like" leaves and the thickened pre-existing middle leaves. Additionally, some plants are growing a bit wrinkly, and others have unstable stems (which could be due to stretching). Furthermore, a few irregularities in growth form could be observed. DC1 So far my favorite. Grown nice and stable. However: deformed first leaf pair. Possibly related to the dryness (were resources pulled here to be used elsewhere?) DC2 Growth depression from the start. Doesn’t take up space, but it’s still flying if it keeps this up. DC3 Looks pretty, but had issues with stability. Especially after watering. DC4 Has chlorosis and a pronounced pre-existing middle finger. DC5 Has an interesting purple shimmer. Seems to have a slight deficit though. Also looked a bit floppy in between. Soft stem? DC6 Uneven growth of the leaves (different number of fingers), plus a very weak stem. Really needs to improve its performance. DC7 Has sprouted nicely but has recovered well. Nice growth power. Seems to be in a good mood. DC8 Has some of the roundest leaves but is also a bit wrinkly. DC9 Small and wrinkly. DC2, DC3, DC4, DC6, and DC9 are under closer observation. Since I popped very few seeds, they can all stay for now and show what they can do. I’m quite satisfied with DC1, DC5, DC7, and DC8 for now. Thank you for your attention! 😎

Lotopharg I really like the look of the Deep Chunk(s). The broad indica fan leaves just look amazing. The plants also appear significantly more uniform than last time. They seem to have tolerated the HMP feeding well. Overall, they look quite healthy and lively. That’s definitely a joy. Only DC2, DC8, and DC9 are still lagging a bit. Stability is no longer an issue across the board. I actually wanted to send the tent into flowering already, but I think I should let them veg for another week. I’ve read that I shouldn’t expect much stretch. This does jeopardize all my crossing plans, but there should still be a few buds to smoke. If necessary, I’ll try to preserve the pollen from the winning male and repeat the attempt next summer (or I’ll produce one or two of the crosses indoors over the winter). Lotopharg The tent is now well filled, which is why I flipped it two days ago. The magnesium deficiency/chlorosis had actually resolved itself, but I still added 0.2g/l BS. Now the transition is coming, and I didn't want to take any risks. Plus, I turned the light up to 80%. The plants overall look healthy; I had to dig a few up a bit for the photos. DC1: It's a little too light green for my liking, but I won't sprinkle any more HMP; instead, I'll water it with another 1ml/l BioGrow. Even though the stretch is minimal, it shouldn't be lacking in N. I probably underestimated the nutrient needs a bit. The dosage was also on the lower end of the forum. It's growing a bit wrinkly. DC2: Had to be dug up for the photo; the deficiencies haven't worsened, but it's now a bit too light green at the tips and has the most uneven fan leaves. Still not convinced, but it isn't taking up space right now. I probably won't use it for propagation. Let's see what happens next. DC3: Also too light green. Here, if I were to fertilize the plants individually, I would almost go up to 2ml/l BioGrow. But it will stay at 1ml/l since not all are that light green. The leaves are nice and broad but also a bit wrinkly. DC4: Nice thick fingers, shows fewer deficiencies overall, still some slight variegation visible. Good growth power. DC5: Despite its central location, it has remained below average in size. The chlorosis (see the picture of DC6) is still most evident here. Either the root system had issues with waterlogging, the magnesium deficiency was the strongest, or there were other problems with nutrient uptake. Overall, it doesn't look unhealthy. DC6: Also needs N, but it's more of a light beginning deficiency. Nice leaves, nice growth! DC7: Is a bit of my secret favorite. Great growth power, great leaves, and it holds its nutrients reasonably well. It's definitely going to be a keeper. DC8: Has the richest green of all the plants. It's grown a bit smaller and has pretty leaves. DC9: Has also held its nutrients quite well, although a slight deficiency is suspected. It has also remained smaller, and the fingers are somewhat thinner. Current favorites are DC6, DC7, and DC8. DC2 is still on the exit list. Thank you all for your attention!

Lotopharg The DCs have been through a lot in the last few weeks: After a very long low-input phase, shwazzing, and constant overwatering, many things have reorganized in the tent. Out of 9 seeds planted, 4 turned out female: DC4, DC6, DC7, and DC8. DC1, DC2, DC3, DC5, and DC9 showed me their balls. All of them received a treatment with SF nematodes against fungus gnats, and there were also three packs of predatory mites for everyone to share. For the nematodes and to see how the plants react, I swung the watering can quite a bit as hinted. DC1 I sorted out all the males except for DC1. This approach is quite unusual for an IBL, but I want to briefly explain what motivated me: He was the "earliest" and furthest along, which according to Tom Hill should be topped during full pollination to minimize genetic influence, and many breeders avoid him due to an assumed high hormonal pressure (risk of hermaphroditism), but he was also the most vigorous, bushiest with the most secondary shoots, and above all, the largest and sturdiest buck. Plus, he smelled the strongest: somehow piercing, dangerous, and dominant. At first, I only sorted out DC2, as he was a thorn in my side from the beginning due to his slow growth. He did manage to catch up to DC3, DC5, and DC9, but had weak secondary growth and fewer leaves. When I placed the other three with DC1 in the male section, DC1 towered over them, sometimes by double the size, and was simply the most impressive buck in every respect. This is how the offspring should look. The others all appeared rather small and spindly in comparison. DC1 grew through everything I confronted him with, completely unfazed, with the most even internode spacing. Like a true champion. So I took the remaining males around the corner. However, to their credit, DC3 and DC5 each showed root tips at the bottom of the stem, indicating good rooting potential for cuttings, and DC3 also had nice secondary growth. All the others looked a bit like DC8, unremarkable representatives of their kind with rather slow growth and fewer secondary shoots. Traits I deemed undesirable for myself. I don't particularly like DC8's growth either. But she doesn't take up much space, and DC is said to be quite susceptible to bud rot, so I'd rather keep her as a backup. I almost kept DC3 as a backup for DC1, but I just trust my ability to not accidentally let the boy die (before he pollinates). I’ve put him on quite a diet (too little Batmix and bought pots), in case anyone wonders about his light leaves. The four girls received a total of 50 liters of Batmix and new 17-liter pots to reward their endurance in the low-input phase and to see how they (and their buds) react to strong fertilization. DC4 Still a bit light and worn out, but great upright and bushy growth. She is the tallest of the 4 ladies. DC6 Has the strongest and bushiest growth, but also the worst chlorosis. I attribute this to waterlogging, as it has calmed down with the others. I might also water again in the next few days with 0.2-0.3g/l BS, but I’ll wait for the reaction to the strong soil first. Maybe it will turn around and end the overwatering (once the current drain is soaked up hehe). DC7 Also has really nice robust growth. She has held her nutrients the best throughout the tent. Nice secondary growth, beautiful leaves. DC8 DC8 is not a bad plant; I would describe her as a good average of the population. I kept her because she doesn’t take up space in case all the others mold away and/or if her weed turns out to be the most narcotic. But she hasn’t really convinced me (yet). If she had been a male, I probably would have said goodbye to her (if I were still pulling a scrog net, probably would have). But I’m happy to be surprised and am curious to see how she does in the further flowering phase. Who knows, maybe she’ll end up being the winner. Thank you very much for your attention! 😎
