Thirsty_Grower Day 50 (03.08.26) – The Start of Flowering. 29.07.26 - First watering with nutrients: 5 L of water with 1.77 g of Hybrids (0.35 g/L), total EC = 1075 µS/cm², with runoff. Runoff pH = 5.3, EC = 2000 µS/cm². 03.08.26 - plain water. Since the runoff EC was quite high last time, I decided to water with plain water this time. My tap water has a pH of 7.5 and an EC of 700 µS/cm², so I normally adjust the pH down to 6.0–6.5. However, because the runoff pH was only 5.3 last time, I didn't use any pH Down on this watering and simply watered with plain tap water. Despite this, the runoff water had an even higher EC compared to last time - a full 2880 µS/cm²! The pH also dropped even lower - to 5,0. Apparently, there are still enough nutrients remaining in the soil, so the next watering should probably be done with plain water again. LIGHT: I also turned on the Bloom mode on the lamp in addition to the VEG mode. The total PPFD is now 600. When increasing the power, the leaves start to curl upwards slightly (canoeing), so for now I will keep it at 600. 09.08.26 - 5 L of water with 3,5 g of Biobizz Calmag. Runoff pH = 5.0, EC = 1300-1500 µS/cm².

Thirsty_Grower 15.08.26 - 5 L water with 3,5 g of Hybrids, solution pH = 6,7, EC = 1500. Runoff pH = 4,9! EC 1990. Even though watering with a pH above 6, the drainage pH remains low. A couple of days after the first preventive dose of CalMag (despite there already being Dolomitkalk in the soil) - see week 8, signs of a CalMag deficiency appeared on the leaves. I can't figure out whether this happened BECAUSE of adding CalMag, or DESPITE it (meaning I was literally just a little late, but still prevented the issue from becoming more severe). I haven't added any more CalMag since then, but there haven't been any further problems either...

Me again 😁 I just saw that you have a pH value of 5.0...... I think that's the issue, and your plant can't properly utilize the nutrients because of it. Correct your pH value to 6.5, and I think your problems will be solved....... Good luck!

Plant needs p and k at all times... should always try to give as much as you can without waste or toxicity. Blasting it randomly with large levels of p/k just pollutes your local aquifer with the runoff... the plant isn't using all that excess. Only need abotu 30ppm of P, for example, to meet all the needs and demands of the plant. That's easier to quantifiy in a soilless or hydro context, but also applies to organic products and soils... you just can be as precise about it, but you end up at the same place with trial and error, nontheless. I've done the whole boost p or k in flower.. it does nothing. while maintaining levels of other nutes and extremely consistent in how i do everything else, i've done 40ppm, 60ppm, 100ppm of P. The results don't change. All i accomplished was flushing a shit-ton of P down the drain and adding to local water pollution problems. Good research is better evidence than anecdote, and it says the same thing. Nutrient uptake is not understood well simply by "doing." Anecdote that sorrounds it is severely offbase. If a product is tied to it, you can almost always tie it back to greed rather than anything measurably beneficial. What's ideal to have around the roots is not the ratio in which it is used inside the plant. So you don't match use. You want to sorround roots with a balanced diet in which the individual ingredients do not impedge each other and all are available for uptake. Again, much easier to implement for soilless/hydro but you get there through trial and error with soil, too... it may not be as easily calculated, but you end up in the same place. Some nutrients are actively brought in.. Froom what i understand, NPK mostly enter through active transport (carrier proteins, costs ATP) and less so through diffusion - Calcium mostly enters through diffusion. To verify what i say, check out the nutrient uptake video by bruce bugbee in his 17-part athena series of videos. Think the one about witholding nitrogen is also relative to this topic... he gives some good tidbits that should help form better conclusions about our fertilization choices. The one tidbit about reducing nitrogen the last 2 weeks i'd want to ask an important question about his conclusions... It increases thc% but also results in less yield, but if the loss in yield directly accounts for the increase in percent of mass of thc, then you aren't actually producing more thc, you are producing the same with less flower mass. I'm pretty sure a human can't tell the difference betwen 25% and 24.5% lol, so in some cases i think i'd prefer the better yield... especially if it is monetized by mass. There's no force feeding the plant. Flower also does not store excess minerals. that's not its biological function. the ratio of terpenes andsuch may be impacted but they are not build differently or contaminated with excess p or k... if they were they'd be completely different molecules. That's not how genetic instructions work... it's a recipe... they are built according to instruction. feed what you can... if you cause a toxicity, feed less over time, next grow. Be systematic and you'll learn faster. A plant looking healthy might not be maximizing potential, but if you find an upper threshold and dial back from there, you know you are giving it as many building blocks as it can handle... The environment provided and the genetics at hand dictate growth. You either meet those demands or you don't. It's not foie gras. So a lot of the mad scientist stuff with elaborate feeding scheduels and 20 different products you add here or there is really just industrial strength bullshit. Buy more, use more, and they don't give a fuck if it actually gives you good results. tracking what you feed is not complicated. it's common sense even for a soil grow, though less resolved by nature so you interpret those numbers with a bit more leeway. when you do things well, you should see extremely consistent results regardless of how many different strains you grow. Rarely, you may encounter a plant that doesn't play nice but it'll be a small issue and nothing concerning. Over-feeding is rampant and the motivation is understandable. Tracking grams per sq ft of your yields will help determine if your choices hurt or helped... though you can't react to any "1" harvest's results.. it's the accumulation of info and familiarity over time that is of value.
