Aeromatics Goals for the Grow: For my next 2 x 4 grow, I have decided to stick with the philosophy learned from my last several runs, stick with one strain and keep it simple. The last few runs, growing multiple strains with one shared reservoir resulted in some beautiful plants in general, but one or two always suffered or were never fully optimized. For this autoflower run, I have decided my focus will be White Widow CBD Auto from ILGM. I am excited for this “All-Day” use strain, given its THC (8%) and CBD (5%) ratio, and its clear-headed properties. For this grow journaling process, I will run 2 separate diaries. I like running a diary for each individual strain as well, especially for contests and to feature characteristics of each individual plant, as phenotypes may vary. The diary comments will be labeled as in two separate parts: Individual Updates and then Tent-Wide Updates. I am focused purely on quality over quantity for this grow, as my personal staff is well filled, and thus, I don’t need to stress too much on endgame yield. Each move I make will steer these gals towards producing quality flowers, terpenes, and flavors. I want to let these classic genetics shine, and my move to Canna Coco Professional + will hopefully allow my stable Ventana Plant Science reservoirs to produce killer root zones, which will in turn give us some great above ground growth! Additionally, I plan on top dressing with Mammoth P Active Microbes a few times throughout the grow, with a few applications of Stash Base, Blend, and Bloom at key times during the autoflower process. For my environment, I am going to start the first week or so at 24 hours of lights at around 190/200 PPFD, and then move to 20/4 in order to give the plants some rest. My previous 4 autoflower runs have been 24 hours of light, really pushing the genetics to the max. While I appreciate maxing out genetics with that light structure, I feel like it might be pushing it too much and may have been one of the stressors to a few pollination issues. Let’s get into my Coco Preparation Process and Germination: I prepared 3 separate batches of Canna Coco Professional Plus and Harvest Hero Perlite in a 70/30 ratio. I recently made a bit of a mistake with my Coco preparation during the transplant of my Clementine Slush from .5 gallon to 1 gallon pots. Not necessarily in the mixing, but in the pre-moistening at the potting stage. I think it was too dry, and thus it took more time than I wanted for the root structures to get going. I know this is a bit different since I am direct sowing, but still I wanted to ensure my coco was properly hydrated at the onset of planting. For potting, I prepared 1 gallon of RO water with the following nutrients: 5 ml Ventana Plant Science Support 1 ml Ventana Plant Science Grow ec .80 ph 5.9 In each batch of prepared coco, I poured enough water to bring the coco to full hydration and when I squeezed a batch, a few drops came out. It didn’t stream out, but a few drops nonetheless. This came out to around 2 liters per 4 gallon of prepared medium. For Germination, I did my classic Organiplug set-up! I planted the seeded Organiplugs directly into the prepared Coco and put them into the prepared tent with a half-bottle humidity dome, with the goal of limiting any exposure of the taproot to open oxygen/air. My idea behind this new method is to prevent any possible oxidation of the root, and allow the taproot to hit its growing environment as soon as it emerges from the Organiplug. Plus, I get to sprinkle Xtreme Mykos in each planting hole before I put the Organiplugs into the coco, allowing for that extra root growth. I did this direct sow method with my Clementine Slush and all 5 sprouted, so my new method of using Organiplugs worked great! For this round, I started with 3 White Widow CBD dedicated pots, but I had trouble with one germinating. I tried two seeds, one dampened off and the other’s taproot actually emerged through the top hole instead of heading down to the coco. I tried to flip it, but it didn’t take. That trial and error cost about a week, so instead of trying to get another one started that would be around a week behind of my other two successful germinations, I am opting to run only 2 White Widow CBDs and moving my other 3.9 Gallon Autopot XL to my 4 x 4. I have 2 successful seeds that have popped and produced little seedlings, and we are off to our run of White Widow CBD Auto!
