So, I'm try Sticky Beast auto on my allotment in South Yorkshire. I'm using three seeds, two directly in the soil (well, in a hole with growbag compost) and one in a pot with a mix of approximately 70% compost(growbag) and 30% soil. I won't be adding any nutrients as I'd like to see what this plant is capable of before....well, just before something.
Had a wicked bit of sun and two sprouted within 3 days. For germination I just filled the tube that the seeds arrived in with water and left them for 48hrs until they all popped. All seeds were planted on 21st April (missed 420 due to "time mismanagement"....😉
Third seed sprouted!! I had written her off but she's finally here. No.2 (in the same bed as johnny-come-lately) and No.3 (in the pot) are coming along quite nicely. I've made mini greenhouses out of bottle tops and covered all three as the weather has been up and down. Not sure if you can see but they've been getting very warm in there. (I should have mentioned that I'm actually on week 10 but didn't start uploading until today so I'm currently playing catch up)
Again, away for work so I've just left them to the elements. I've only managed to grab a couple of photos but they're definitely happy. We've had some great sun interspersed with some great rain.
So pleased! These photos are 10 days after the last lot. The potted plant has just taken off and the other two are following nicely. We've had great weather (rain and sun) so they are really enjoying themselves. I'm allowing the bed to overgrow slightly (flower's and weeds) for camouflage purposes. I'm sure this will affect the final size but as this is a "bare bones" project I don't mind much.
Brilliant week! The potted plant has just gone off, I reckon she could reach a metre! The other two are doing well, but they're not in her league. She's got a lovely thick stem and is growing a lot quicker than I expected. Overall, very happy with all three. Little runty is still sporting a slender stem but seems nice and healthy otherwise.
Potted plant is now taking the p!£s out of my life. She's started showing pistils everywhere and is definitely starting to smell! The bedded plants are currently outgrowing their camouflage and are also showing pistils but not to the extent of the potted one. So pleased with these girls!
Any experienced grower's with any tips, everyday is a school day so feel free to pass on your knowledge or just opinions.
