2nd time DWC - she's a cripple!

HashishOculus September 12, 2026 Alright, I set a seed to germinate yesterday. I decided to go with a Zamnesia Automatic Blueberry seed that I got as a freebie. I’m hoping the genetics bring out those blue and purple hues during flowering. Aside from that, I’m curious to see how big it gets. The last time I grew an auto from Zamnesia, it didn't get very big; the yield was 28g. It was really high-quality smoke, but the plant was quite small. That was back when I was growing in soil with a worse light than I use now. My last grow was in DWC using a Mars Hydro FC1500 150W. It was a learning experience. I made a few mistakes—specifically, an accident during early flowering messed things up a bit. I ended up with about 70g of mid-grade bud. Otherwise, the whole grow was really satisfying. I’ve bought a new tent that is significantly taller—though otherwise the same footprint. It went from 60x60x140 to 60x60x180. I’m really happy to have more vertical space to work with. Hopefully, I’ll be able to keep the carbon filter and inline fan inside the tent. I’ve also purchased an RO system. During the late flowering stage of my last grow, the plant wasn't happy. I’ve read up on it and concluded that it was most likely because my water was too hard. It’s fine during veg, but in late flowering, hard water messes with the plant's mineral uptake. I'll change to RO water once she goes into flower. So, hopefully, I’ll put those problems behind me. Right now, I have a carbon fiber cube soaking in a bowl of water adjusted to pH 5.5. Soon, I’ll place the seed in it, and then it’s under the lights in the new tent. Exciting times ahead! September 20, 2026 (Day 4) The sprout isn't really taking hold. I assume the cube was simply too saturated with water. Bummer. I’ve started a new sprout just to be safe.

HashishOculus 20 Sept. 2026 (Day 4) The seedling isn't really taking hold. I assume the cube was simply oversaturated with water. Bummer. I’ve started a new seedling just in case. 25 Sept. (Day 9) The seedling is actually showing nice roots extending from beneath the cube and visible. It’s still lagging behind the last grow, but I’m giving it a chance. So, I’ve moved it to the DWC bucket. The water is at pH 5.82 and EC 1126. Mixing ratio: 1 ml per liter of Micro, Grow, and Bloom (pH Perfect); 2 ml per liter of Voodoo Juice. All Advanced Nutrients products. Total volume just under 12 liters. The light is hanging about 25 cm above the plant at the lowest setting. The temperature in the tent is around 22°C—perfect for keeping the reservoir temperature down. Seedling 2 is being terminated, as I only want to grow one plant. Seedling 1 shows some discoloration—it looks a bit pale. All in all, the seedling is significantly behind compared to last time. But it is growing, and the roots look good, as mentioned. So, I’m giving it a chance. It should pick up speed once the roots reach the reservoir. 28 Sept. (Day 12) The seedling is growing steadily. Still some discoloration (lighter color). Reservoir pH was around 6.8; lowered to 5.8. Temperature is around 23°C, so I’ve opened the window in the lung room. EC: 1148. There are two burnt spots. It can't be nutrient burn, since the roots aren't touching the reservoir yet. Raised the light by 5 cm.

HashishOculus Oct 1 (Day 15) The seedling looks deformed and underdeveloped. It is at roughly the same stage of development as the previous seedling was on Day 8. It has deformed leaves—which isn't necessarily a problem for its future growth—but, as mentioned, it also has burnt tips and small white spots on the leaves. What went wrong? I suspect there was too much water in the cube. Maybe, though I did shake the cube gently and used paper towels to soak up some of the water before setting the seed to germinate, so it’s hard to say. Perhaps the cube sat in the pH-adjusted water for too long? Oct 2 (Day 16) It’s incredible how much can change in a single day. The seedling looks much healthier. That’s likely because a single root strand has reached the reservoir. It is still lagging far behind the previous plant. Specifically, the color has shifted from yellowish-green to a healthy light green. There is hope! The plant still looks deformed, so I’ve named her Quasimoda—after the hunchback from Victor Hugo’s 1831 novel "Notre-Dame de Paris". I’m a fan of underdog stories, and she’ll likely catch up. Oct 5 (Day 20) The reservoir measures pH 6 and EC 1226. I’m changing it for the first time to pH 5.76 and EC 1016. The plant is actually growing well now. The roots look good—there are several long root strands. Oct 6 (Day 20 – shortly after midnight) Measured reservoir at pH 6.8. Lowered to 5.9. It is quite normal for the reservoir pH to rise by one unit the day after a reservoir change, so there is no cause for concern. EC 1,126. The next morning, the plant looks healthy and a lovely green. It is officially no longer a seedling but is in the vegetative stage. New shoots look good. Oct 7 (day 21) Checked the plant in the morning. Hot damn - now she's taking off. Quasimoda has really grown in 24 hours, and she's obviously thriving. The plant is still about a week behind my last grow, but as long as it's not stunting any longer, I'm hopeful.
