DAY 6
The Sour Livers seeds have been problematic. Two did not sprout at all, one came through fine (bottom left in pic) and one is late (second left in pic).
I have since found some germination info provided by Mephisto Genetics on the probabilities of their seeds germinating:
https://www.reddit.com/r/MephHeads/comments/aed0me/autumn_2018_mephisto_genetics_full_shop_stock/
BTW - kudos to them for this test.
Sour Livers has the worst germination statistics of all their strains but I'm still disappointed to have only 2 seeds out of four come through. I am trying to get a spare seed to pop and will include it in the grow if it germinates.
DAY 7
The more advanced of the 2 seedlings has gone into the RDWC system and I have got the spare seed to pop and I think one of the seeds I had given up on may be popping but it is still in the paper towel stage (after 7 days!) Lighting in tent at this stage is 2 x 240W LED.
**** END OF PROPAGATION PHASE ****
DAY 1
I am counting veg stage from the day the plants entered the RDWC system.
The summer weather means I cannot use all 4 of the 240W LED grow lights. The plan is to have 2 on at a time (diagonally across the tent, swapping sides every day) but to run them 24/24.
I have manged to germinate 2 more Sour Livers seeds but they are still in the propagator, so in the end 3 out of 5 came through.
DAY 4
Remaining 2 Sour Livers seedlings went into RDWC buckets - so they are 3 days behind the first one.
DAY 5
Just about managing temperatures - 24C nutrient and 27C air. I can chill nutrient lower but that increases the temperature of the room containing the tent! Plants are happy and seem OK with 24 hour light.
DAY 7
Hot spell has passed. Had to remove one Sour Livers seedling - it wasn't growing and the first true leaves were very thin and twisted. So out of my five seeds I only have 2 viable plants. Luckily I had a back-up Chemdogging to take its place.
Changed lighting pairs (2 x 240W) to swap every 12 hours instead of every 24 hours.
Day 8
Am trying all four lights (4 x 240W) on a 20/4 schedule but may have to go back to 2 x 240W depending on temperatures. With all four lights on, the temperature is 27/28C and in the four hour dark period it is 24C.
Day 9
This Sour Livers grow is going very badly! I have had to remove a second dud seedling (see pic). It stalled after showing the second set of leaves and did nothing for 48 hours while all the other plants pushed ahead. Had to go. Out of 5 original Sour Livers seeds bought from the Mephisto web-store only one has become a viable plant. From 6 Chemdogging seeds I got 6 viable plants. From 2 Fantasmo Express seeds I got 2 viable plants.
I am a huge Mephisto fan but there is no doubt I have received a dodgy batch of Sour Livers seeds. I noticed from the beginning they were very small and one was almost white. Shit happens and although disappointing, at least I have all 9 pots in my tent filled with healthy plants.
Day 11
No problems.
Day 12
Have added Hydroguard to my nutrient mix after hearing good things on the Autoflower Network.
Day 14
Not much to do except monitor temperature, pH and CF. Plant is very healthy.
Have maybe detected a mutation - main step has split into two braches, More later
Day 15
Sour Livers continues to throw up eccentricities! Now my only surviving plant seems to have developed a double main stem. Need to let it grow a bit more in order to be sure (and get puictures) but there is definitely something odd going on. Very healthy though and doing well.
Day 16
Reduced lamp to plant distance to 70cm - maybe could have done this earlier but forgot!
Day 17
Increased EC to 1.0 from 0.8. Plants seem to have responded well to lowering the lights. Noticed first pre-flower hair on her.
Day 19
Bit of LST and I can see she is quite mutated! KInd of has topped herself and has a double main stem.
Day 21
End of week 3 and no issues so far which is a first for me. I am putting this down to incorporating a few additives in addition to just base nutrients as used in my previous 2 DWC grows.
Day 22
Dropped nutrient temperature from 23C to 21C. For some reason the root mass on this grow is noticeably lower than previous grow. Plants above ground look healthier and the same size as previous grow so I am a bit puzzled.
Day 23
Pruned off low potential branches and defoliated a little ready for flowering to start.
Day 29
Begun move to HydroBloom feed and added Sumo Active Boost at 1ml/l.
Day 30
HST used to keep height level with Chemdogging tent-mates.
Day 34
No more HST - just going to let her do her thing from now until harvest.
Day 42
Added Shogun P/K Warrior @ 0.5ml/l
Sour Livers is doing nicely and has needed very little defoliation. She looks like she was topped as there is no main cola but this is down to a mutation that doubled the main stem early on. Still thinks she looks Sativa despite having 80% Indica genetics. According to Mephisto data she should be the first in the tent to finish.
Day 57
Out of the 3 strains in the tent (all germinated together} - The Sour Livers girl is the most obviously nearest to harvest. She has some amber trichomes and will be down in the next 10 days.
Day 65
Sour Livers is very nearly ready and I expect to harvest in next 7 days Waiting for a few more amber trichomes.
Day 67
*** HARVESTED ***
She is now occupying 3 tiers of one of my drying racks. Smells great - strong!
Will do dry weight, smoke etc later
@mr_h_kovert, good question! it's not easy - I have 2 circulation fans in the tent but also a big extractor/intake combo that keeps the air in the tent fresh. I'm expecting some rot to be honest, too high RH during flower even with the dehumidifier.
@mr_h_kovert, Ha ha - yes it looks a bit out of control but there is method to my madness - I think. 😉
It's quite a big tent - 1.5m x 1.5m, they've stopped growing and each branch is getting light. I already pruned off all the very weak and hidden shoots so in theory it should become a sea of colas over the next 4 weeks.
Fook me bro - amazonian is the word that springs to mind - are you planning on defol? I ask as I'm unsure of how you're going to navigate through all that greenery.
Sterling work - you've grown trees holmes!!!! 💪
