Had heavy thunderstorms come in early and will last a few days so I had to bring the ladies inside to the grow tent. Intend on keeping lights running for 24 hours now for a few days until the rain subsides. Was going to water them but the rain got to them first and it seems like they loved the heavy rains and winds. I have no intention of using any chemical fertilizers because they are thriving naturally. In their 4th week of vegetation and I will transplant them into 15-gallon pots filled halfway, so I guess 7 gallons approx. I will give them another month of vegetative growth and then hopefully they will flower on their own as the daylight hours change. Uber excited since this is my first grow! I am light stressing my blackberry only. I was FIMing the bananas almost every two days and now they seem to be packed with new growth. It is almost scary because I can't even see the main stem due to growth. Also kind of worried about transplanting from the 3-gallon pots. Haven't really up-potted such a large plant before. Wish me luck and please provide any and all insight and comments!

Grow Questions

I am thinking about cloning from each plant and need to know at what stage of growth can I start hacking away for clones. Where should I take the cutting from? How long should the cutting be? Also, once I have a suitable clone cut, how do I go about making sure it roots outside?

Hey I see this is an old question but wanted to share my cloning technique. If you want a simple almost foolproof cloning method check out the first couple weeks of my fire & water diary. It does work best with a small aquarium air pump but you don't have to have one. The trick to reliable cloning it to keep the clone cool about 75f and not too intense light. If you are doing it outside make sure you keep it in the shade. No fancy root compounds required.

You should wait about 9 weeks in for clones and you want to take something from the bottom

You can root a cutting from those easy! At this point in the veg theres substantial hormones in your plant to root a cut quite quickly an effectively! You can root the cutting from when u top the plants if your going to top the plants... but for faster roots take a cutting around 6-8 inches long from close to the base of the plant(more concentration of root hormones already present) Remember to leave atleast one node left on the branches your cutting from to leave somewhere for future growth to still grow from! Unless u plan to part with the branch 4 ever. Cut on s 90 degree angle as to have more surface area at the tip to take in water and root off of. As for how to root u can use cloning gels/powders which are root hormone additives but those I find are only needed on much older plants were the hormone levels are rather low on the rooting end. Moist not wet medium good and high rh% and that's really all u need.

Hey for clones only take branches that have 3 nods on them. When the plant is about 6-8 weeks old Then a rooting solution of your choice. (Powder or gel ) mix a good amount with water. Take your cuts and leave them in the rooting solution for a 24 hours then transplant into Rockwell or right into soil. ( Just personal preference tbh) I also like to put a ziplock bag with holes poked in it over top of my clone to keep humidity high and keep spraying the leafs with water for the first 15 days or until your clone develops a root system. The ziplock acts as a mini green house. Hopes this helps happy growing

@SajjuB,nice it's very easy once you've done it once or twice ! And I've tried removing questions before I don't know if it's because I use a mobile phone that it don't work but if you pick an answer I think you have to wait like 2-3 weeks for a new question ..or throw your question in comments section and you'll get an answer a lot of these people just like to help it ain't all about the grower of the month lol ..

@Cannibalgardens, I simply found the lowest branches with about 4-5 inches of growth, snipped em, trimmed em, and threw em in a bottle of 20 oz. water with a mix of a half teaspoon or so of rooting hormone. Kept them under LED 600watt lighting with a temp of 95 and Rh of also 90 ish. Hairlike roots within 3 days and are now in soil all within a week. Also, made sure to oxygenate the bottle every day by stirring with a spoon or screw. Just posted pics of the cuttings. Let m know how they look. Cheers. Also, I can't seem to remove the question about cuttings. I'd like to ask more but it's allowing me one only. Anyway, Let me know how the tops look and what areas need pruning!

@MaryJaneUSA, Striving. The sun has been battering them for 3 weeks now and at times temps were slightly above a 100 with a real feel of about 112 at one day. Leaves curled up slightly and that's when I made sure to water them properly. Luckily night time temps drop about 15 to 20 degrees which I guess helps.

@SajjuB hi mate howd you go Did you end up taking some cuttings? Hope I was able to provide a solution To the grow question Happy Growing
SajjuB
SajjuBcommented5 years ago
@DILLIGAF, I didn't. Kinda nervous about taking my first cutting I guess ... and I'm waiting for something that's a little over 8 inches. Next week for sure. I'm gonna try 3 methods for cloning, only water, Jiffy pellets, and just plain soil. Pellets and soil I'll be using rooting hormones and a bit of honey. So yes, you provided solutions and a vast amount of knoweldge. Appreciate the help dude. Stay tuned!
