Germination Day 0 - Just received seeds today and started germination with paper towel and ziplock. Will keep updates going and start with day 1 when first set of leaves appear.
Germination Day 1 - Pulled her out to check and she’s cracked and just starting to poke the taproot out, will most likely be ready for a jiffy pellet tomorrow.
Germination Day 2 - Taproot is out and placed her in the humidity dome and jiffy pellet, now just waiting for her to break soil. Not sure if I want to go to solo cups next or just place her straight into the final pot.
Day 1 - Little girl is sprouted and above soil so I’m calling today, day one. Doing a little test between the three new girls. Starting this one in a 3 gallon fabric pot and the other two in a solo cup and 5 gallon fabric pot.
Day 2 - Nothing major happening, she’s just starting out so just doing some updated pics.
Day 3 - Gave the girl a little spray of water today and just happily watching her do her thing.
Day 4 - Nothing new today, all looks good so far.
Day 6 - She’s looking pretty good so far. Soil is still fairly moist around the jiffy pellet so definitely gonna let her go for a bit before adding any water.
Day 7 - The end of week 1 and this girls looking pretty good. After having some issues of everything starting to yellow a bit, leaving the door to the tent open a bit for some more airflow seems to of helped. Everything is starting to get that nice shade of green again. Only issue with this girl is one of the new leaves is a bit twisted but she’s very young so not worried.
Day 8 - Starting week 2 and so far so good. Gave her a little bit of pH’d water and letting her do her thing. She’s got a bit of a funky leaf growing out but she’s looking healthy so not too worried about her. I’m sure she’ll grow out of it!
Day 10 - She still has a funky leaf and some strange coloring but she’s been like this since day 1 so I’m guessing it’s just the genetics in the one. She’s growing at a pretty decent rate so nothing I’m worrying about.
Day 11 - Added a couple inches of fresh soil to the top of the pot. Seems like after a couple waterings, things packed down and want to make sure she’s full. Other than that, she’s definitely got some weird growth. Haven’t added any nutes yet so not sure what’s causing it, though the weird coloring and growth has been there since the beginning so just gonna let her go and see what happens.
Day 12 - She’s definitely still got the funky growth and coloring going on but she’s still growing and looks fairly healthy other than that. Decided to give her a light feed for the first time today to see if maybe that’ll help and jumpstart her growth. Only gave her a circle around her base about 4 inches out to help her get the roots searching for water. Also gonna start measuring her total width to keep track of growth and she’s at 4 1/2” wide right now and 2 1/2” tall.
Day 13 - Most definitely still looking funky but growing. She’s still only about 2 1/2” tall but widened out to 5 5/8” so I went ahead and shut one of the LED lights off to try and get her to stretch a bit. We’ll see what that does the next couple of days. Didn’t give her any water today, I want to make sure she really dries out.
Anybody know what’s going on with this girl? All in all, she’s growing right along with my other but some funky coloration and growth. Not sure if I should start a new one or let her go and see what happens. I appreciate any advice and input.
This mutated growth is pretty common with fastbuds genetics especially their "purple" strains. They usually grow to be nice potent plants though. Another possibility is if you are using fox farms soil it is known to be a little hot on nutrients for autos. Either way just continue only watering with ph adjusted water and it will be fine. Day 15 - Starting week 3 and all is looking good still and still got the funky growth going on but she’s growing still and not having any other issues with her. Gonna start the foxfarm feeding schedule tomorrow and hopefully start some LST within the next week or so. She’s now 2 3/4” tall and 7 1/2” wide.
Day 16 - All looks good, gave her a light feeding according to the foxfarm chart today. She grew a little bit more and is sitting at 3 1/4” tall and 8 1/4 wide. Hoping that even with the funky growth, she’ll grow good and give me something good and so far she’s not disappointing.
Day 17 - The girls are drinking a ton of water right now. Gave them a nice light feeding yesterday and normally when I water with a small amount, they’re still damp the next day but she’s pretty dry a couple inches down. Still gonna hold of on another watering until tomorrow at the earliest. She still has the funky growth but appears to have some new normal growth coming in. We shall see but either way this girl will grow out till finish and we’ll see how she does. She’s now 3 1/2” tall and 9 3/8” wide and looking good.
Day 18 - Went ahead and started a little LST. Just bent and tied down the main stem for now and hoping some of the other lower branches starting will get light and start growing now. Hopefully it’s not too much stress and she recovers and turns back towards the light. She was at a little over 3 1/2” tall and now around 3-3 1/4” tall now. Gave her a nice drink of pH’d water with some cal-mag so we’ll see how she’s doing tomorrow evening.
Day 19 - She recovered well from the LST but went ahead and tied her down again. She started reaching for the light before anything below could really get any light but I think lower chutes got enough to get started and I’ll just keep working the LST until I get the shape and chutes that I’m looking for.
Day 20 - Still doing well after the LST and gonna let her stretch a little bit more before tying her down some more. As ugly as the growth looks, she’s still doing well. I noticed the first couple of pistils showed today as well. Gave her the first real feeding of nutes today so I’ll keep an eye on her to make sure I didn’t over do it. I used the foxfarm chart as I always do and have never really had a problem. Will let her dry out for a few days before watering with pH’d water and cal-mag.
Day 21 - Ending week 3 and things are looking good. Didn’t do anymore tying down, want her to get a little more vertical growth before continuing LST. Hopefully another day or two and she’ll be ready. She’s got a few more pistils showing so thinking she’ll be in full flower in another week or so but right now still saying she’s in veg. I’m hoping that some of the lower chutes will start stretching so I can get a few more bud sights going but still fairly early in the growth.
Day 23 - The start of week 4 and as fugly as the growth is looking, she’s growing good and looks pretty decent. Still got some more pistils popping up. Went ahead and did a little more LST to the main branch. Lower branches are starting to stretch a little so hoping to have quite a few bud sites when she starts flowering. Gave her some fresh pH’d water today as well.
Day 24 - Did a little more LST today, things are starting to take off. Tied down the main branch and there’s a couple lower branches I tied down to get out in the lights more. I’m gonna try and train as much as I can before she really starts flowering. Going to let her dry out a bit before giving her the first feeding of week 4. Can’t wait to see the purple come out in her!
Day 25 - Starting to get a little worried about this girl. Everything was going so good, even with all the deformities but not seeing much progress the last couple of days. Went ahead and gave her a full week 4 foxfarm feeding to see what that does but just in case, I started germinating another one. Really want to grow this strain so hopefully this one makes it. I’ll just keep an eye on her after the feeding and see if I notice any difference.
Day 26 - Well not completely giving up on this girl, she definitely still growing, almost an inch last night and more pistils are showing up but this has got to be one of the ugliest plants I’ve seen in a long time. Hoping she’s gonna pull through and give me some decent flower. Still have another see germinating, so either way, if she makes it, I’ll have two going. Haven’t done anything else to her, just gonna let her go from here on out.
Day 27 - Just not sure what to do with this girl, I don’t want to give up on her but just not seeing much and definitely an ugly girl. She’s growing just not seeing anything really taking off with her, especially coming up to 5 weeks. Will probably give her a couple more weeks and if I don’t see more progress, she’s just gonna have to go.
Day 28 - The end of week 4 and not sure what to do with this girl. One day, she looks like she ain’t gonna make it then the next, I’m seeing growth and more pistils so we’ll see what happens. I do have another seed in a jiffy pellet that popped her head out today so at least I have another one going in case this girl doesn’t make it. She was really thirsty today so gave her a drink of pH’d water water until runoff, first time for any major runoff.
Day 29 - Starting week 5 and a bit of a difference in her since watering to a full runoff yesterday. She stretched almost an inch in a little less than 24 hours and she looks a little more “alive”. Quite a few more pistils showing and looks like she might be going into flower soon. Will give her a full watering with veg nutes once she’s completely dry.
Day 30 - Not much to update other than I think she’s actually starting to flower. She ain’t the prettiest but looking like a full watering night of done the trick and kicked her into high gear. She stretched a full inch in the last 24 hours. Tied her top down so it doesn’t get too far ahead of the rest.
Day 31 - Pulled her out of the tent today for some daily pictures and she was definitely light and ready for some water. Gave her just pH’d water and cal-mag. She looks to me like she’s picking up the pace and may be coming into full flower soon.
Day 32 - Nothing much new today, she’s definitely flowering now so I’ll update the week to indicate flower instead of veg. Other than that, just letting her go
Day 33 - Things look like they’re starting to take off now. Still a very ugly looking plant but she’s starting to bud up so I’ll give her a feeding of bloom nutes when she dries out. Had a couple branches that were in the way of lower sites so tied them down.
Day 34 - Didn’t do anything for her today but will give her the first bloom feeding tomorrow, she’s pretty dry. I’m a little concerned with two of the stems, they’ve got black spots going up the stems and not sure what it is. I’ve searched all over and no bugs anywhere and thinking maybe some sort of fungus but not sure. She’s maturing nicely even though she’s not a pretty girl. All I can do is keep an eye on her.
Day 35 - Ended week 5 with a nice feeding of bloom nutes till runoff. Again, she’s not the prettiest but she’s flowering and I think she’s actually gonna make it. The “black spots” on the stems all seemed to start blending together so I’m thinking it’s the stems starting to turn purple. Still going to keep an eye on it but she looks a lot better today.
Day 36 - Starting week 6 and gonna let this girl go to term. She’s starting to show some purple now and can’t complain even though she’s pretty ugly overall. Just took her out today for a few pics and to tuck a few leaves.
Day 38 - She’s still chugging along and a little more purple is showing in her. Not sure how the end result will be due to the mutations but I should get something out of her. Will be giving her some fresh water in the next day or two.
Day 39 - Gave her a full drink of pH’d water and cal-mag until runoff today. Checked the runoff as well and a little higher than I’d like, right at 7.0 but I want to bring it down just a big to around 6.5ish so next feeding, I’ll pH the water just a tad lower than normal, probably around 6.2 or so. Other than that, she’s doing well so far.
Day 40 - She is still ugly and mutated as hell but she’s budding up fairly nicely. Really curious to see how she’s gonna end up come chop time. Just gave her a nice little once over and tucked a few leaves.
Day 41 - Nothing much to update here and it appears she’s about done stretching. Now hopefully she can start packing on and finally see what this ugly duckling is gonna do. Hardly any smell coming from her, not sure if it’s just the deformities or the smell will come on later. Will give her a feeding tomorrow, she’s getting pretty dry.
Day 42 - It’s the end of week 6 today and this girl has really surprised me. Didn’t think there would be much to do about her but she’s doing well. Purples are coming out more and more and she starting to frost up as well. Instead of giving her a feeding today, I’ll give her one tomorrow at the start of week 7.
Day 44 - Into week 7 now and pleasantly happy with how she’s doing so far. Didn’t think she’d make it a couple weeks back but doing good now. Gave her a feeding of the foxfarm trio, pH’d at 6.5 and PPM if 1220. A few yellow tips and decided to use a lower PPM instead of the recommended 1900-2220.
Day 45 - All looking good, she’s still filling in and getting a bit frosty. Still not putting out much of a smell and not sure if it’s the strain or her mutations. I removed a couple giant fan leaves to open the bud sights up a bit.
Day 46 - Not much to update as of today. She’s plumping you fairly nicely for being a mutant. Will be giving her some pH’d water tomorrow and test the runoff to see if it’s where I would like it to be.
Day 47 - Everything’s looking good so far. Gave her a full drink of water to runoff today and tested at 6.4 so right around where I’d like it to be. Been going really light on the nutes for this girl being that she’s a bit deformed and I can’t really tell if she’s got any deficiencies because if that but she’s filling in so I supposed she’s doing ok.
Day 48 - Nothing too much going on with this girl right now. She’s chugging along and doing fairly well. Will give her a feeding of nutes within the next 2-3 days, just letting her dry up for a bit.
Day 50 - Starting week 8 and have been impressed with how this girl has been producing. Not as “thick” as she could be but still looking like pretty tight buds. Will be giving her a feeding of nutes tomorrow.
Day 51 - Thinking this girl might be getting kind of close to harvest. About two weeks or so maybe. Looks great for a mutant. Gave her a full feeding of the foxfarm trio today.
Day 52 - Gave the girl a pretty decent defoliation today to try and maximize the light to bud sites. Don’t know how much longer she’s got, 2 weeksish is what I’m thinking but not gonna harvest early. If she needs more than two weeks, then I’ll give her more time.
Overall, the grow went fairly smoothly. She was mutated and deformed almost from day 1 but still did surprisingly well. She definitely could of gone for at least 2 more weeks but the cat had other plans so lost a bit of bud and harvested her fairly earlier than I wanted. Wet weight right now is 41 grams, just under and ounce and half and sure I’m gonna lose quite a bit of that weight while drying but at least I salvaged some off of her and do have a second one going that’s almost a month in. Will update in a week or two after drying, With the taste effect and final dry weight.
