The one plant looks like crap. Not sure if it is a pH imbalance that it is sensitive to or maybe the hydro stone wasn't rinsed enough as this one seedling had a white powdery residue on it's leaves and it seems to be struggling compared to the other seedling. I have checked the pH and it is now 6.0 and will maintain this for a week to see if it is a pH problem or not. The other plant is doing very well as can be seen in the pictures.
The bigger girl is starting to flower. I'm considering pulling the other smaller girl out as she is just crowding the nutrient solution and I will have to raise the light to accommodate the bigger girl. When this has happened in the past the shorter girls yield next to nothing in comparison to the bigger girls. I will wait another week to see if the little girl stretches a bit but if not she is toast.
The bigger girl also underwent a bit of LST this week; hence the bushier appearance of the plant now.
The one on the left in the photos underwent some more LST this week. It has nearly shaded out the smaller plant on the right. LST should be done for at least 1-2 weeks, the bigger plant is nice and bushy and is showing multiple canopy shoots that will develop into nice hearty colas 4 weeks from now.
I recognized that the big girl has a potassium deficiency so I upped the flowering nutrients that had more potassium in them. I also removed the SCROG net as the plant is so bushy that it was causing the leaves to become crowded. The smaller plant is growing like shit but it was slow to start and had problems from the get go --> likely a shitty phenotype. The larger plant has a diameter of approximately 2 feet now.
So after adding more potassium when I thought there was a deficiency of this nutrient I realized I was dead wrong as this made the problem worse. I flushed out the reservoir and boom, things were great again. Moral of the story is that a flush must be completed between veg and flower stages for an auto to ensure that the SALTs don't build up in the plant tissue. The big girl has tons of bud sites which are swelling up larger by the day and some of the bigger flowers are already looking pretty frosty --> damn that's a cold ass honkey!
Removed the small plant as it was way too tiny to take the nutrients that the larger girl was taking due to differences in size. The pH in the reservoir has stabilized likely due to this removal (I read that certain nutrient excesses can cause pH acidity in the root zone, which was the case up to the point that I removed the smaller plant from the garden (it would have produced next to nothing anyways).
Well it is flush week now, the reservoir has been emptied and filled up with reverse osmosis water with no ions. This will help to improve flavour + quality of the buds after curing. I have also included the bic lighter in the picture so you can appreciate the size of the buds. I have around 4 large top colas that are the size of maybe 5 of these lighters placed together in a cluster and many others that are the size of one - two lighters. Two more weeks and this baby is done! Buds are looking nice and frosty. I will upload some trichome pics in a week or so.
This is the 2nd week of Flush; the plant looks really good; I have many bud sites that will be the size of a standard lighter (About 20) to half the height of a can of beer or pop (around 4 of these top cola beauties). The plant is yellowing nicely as it uses up all of it's nutrients stored in the tissues to create a beautiful flavour and very pungent Lemon/Pine/Fuel odour and the buds are super frosty; which can be seen in the trichome pics. I will wait one more week because I like a little bit of amber in the trichomes to help me sleep better.
Harvest day. I put some common items in the shots so you can determine the size of the buds. I will fill out a harvest week with scale measurements in a week after it has dried. I hope people find this diary useful as I remember the struggle at the beginning of learning how to grow cannabis. I also made a good run of bubble hash from the cut trim. I will take pictures of this too and fill out a harvest week after everything has dried up. Thanks for taking a look and/or following ;-)
