Baby pics! Bomb seeds were kind enough to offer me some seeds, so I thank them and hope to keep a diary that will do these plants justice!
So when I perused Bomb seeds catalog, this strain quickly became my top pick because it sounds ultra tasty in terpine profiles I love, it’s a heavier leaning indica hybrid which is my preference for nerve pain and sleep, and it sounds like it’s a high yielding, hardy and forgiving plant that does well indoors in the fall, and won’t grow too huge for my space. While I love ultra high THC strains, they can be difficult to microdose to keep it effective on pain. I also liked the way the buds looked! From their catalog:
“When creating Ice Bomb we wanted a strain full of flavour and a heavy coating of ice white crystals. It is a three way hybrid of Vanilla Kush, White Rhino and our original Bomb #1, making it extremely potent and one of the most exciting new genetic crosses available. The finished buds are incredibly resinous and are covered in a thick bed of ice white crystals full of THC. When cured they have an intense flavour and smell that is an appealing blend of chocolate with hints of vanilla. Ice Bomb is indica dominant, staying quite short but also extending outwards to form a fantastic bushy plant that will tend to produce a large single kola, whilst still producing heavy yielding side branches. During flowering the buds and leaves can develop a purple sheen making it particularly attractive. Ice Bomb is very consistent and hardy and it will grow well even in difficult or less favourable conditions. This strain is ideal indoor & out and will thrive in SOG and SCROG systems. Indoors the plant is a good producer with yields up to 500g/m2. THC and CBD are both very high (THC +20%) making it ideal for medical use with relaxation in mind.“
As I learned from some mistakes on my first grow, I approach this one with several intentions to try the following:
* Grow from seed! Hardier roots, less risk of spider mites already resistent to marjuana friendly insecticides
* Check Ph & PPM of water!!! Adjust the PPM according to the size of your plant, container size and amount of light.
* Switch to bottled water on discovery that the PPMS were too high.
* Feed individual each plant, mixing in the right alchemy for each individual plant
* Use good, well aerated soil with a good nutrient
balance for cannabis and transplant a few times to minimize use of nutrients and subsequent salt buildup in the soil.
* Use humic acid, mycorrhizae and root microbes to help develop better roots and nutrient uptake because big, fat white starchy roots make for big, fat, tasty buds!
* Use Cal-Mag during veg and Sul-po-Mag at bloom in my bottled water.
* Proactively treat for bugs using soap spray, neem oil.
*Fans! More fans to simulate wind, giving the plant exercise, airflow to keep mildew away and keeg bugs from getting snug.
* Keep a cleaner space and home. Do indoor garden tasks before doing outdoor gardening tasks to avoid tracking in bugs and mildew.
*Add diatomaceous earth to the soil to make the soil less hospitable to fungus gnats and top dress with Gnatnix.
* Individual trellises for each plant for easier pruning and care.
* Flush to remove built up salts.
* Defoliate strategically and train during a long veg! Part of the advantage of photoperiods is they allow you time to develop many cola and budsites through iterative topping to grow more weed!
I’m using Cal- Mag as a foliar spray.
I chose solo cups with a hole in the bottom and Burpee Organic Seedling Mix with cococoir and light nutrients. Package with ingredients in my photos.
My light is at 51 inches above the plants (Postedit: Which turns out to have been way too high) We were having high heats, I took the swamp cooler along with a million joints to burning man and left the adult kid to water for 12 days.... WILL THEY SURVIVE?
WILL I?
I have no idea what is happening to my plants right now because I’m at Burning Man smoking tons of weed. I even went to an awesome event called The Stoner Food Pyramid where we prepared for the symposium by sharing so much weed and then a cute topless girl came around and offered us a variety of snacks. My buddy and I went on an adventure ride through Yosemite (it is NOT the quickest route) on the way to Reno, so check out El Capitan, Half Dome and Bridal Falls. No plant porn or photos of naked dirty hippies, but enjoy a little travelog of my journey while we live in suspense about ....WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH MY ICE BOMBS!
Holy crap! I lived through another burn! It was so hot there people. I cannot explain why I do this to myself other than to say, it’s really fun and awesome in a way that’s worth the cost of the suffering.
Check out the burner vehicles heading back on the I-5.
And my ICE BOMBS!!! They lived. Yay! But they are so small!!! WHY!!!!!?
Thanks for having a look! I started the diary with freshly germinated seeds and I was away for 12 days with the light way too far away, so these plants are catching up a bit. For my LEDs, 12-14” from the tops of the plants is a MUCH BETTER distance! Thanks @DabCrab & Wolfpack for the help. This is really more like week 2 or 3 in terms of development Check out my combined grow: Kongzilla on ICE!!! for more baby pics and history.
Please note this is my second grow!
Pots: Transplanted from solo cups and into 1 gal fabric pots. I wish they were a bit deeper and larger. I intend to move them into 5 gal equivalent air pots before bloom. Some minor root spiraling occurred in the solo cups. I'm happy to have transplanted now as much later may have created a root ball. I'm curious about the fabric pots and chose them out of economy.
Soil: I used 4 gallons EB Stone Emerald Triangle Recipe 420 soil augmented with 1 gallon perlite, 1/2 gallon organic worm castings, 1/2 gallon rinsed coco coir, 1/2 cups greensand and 1/2 cup of diatomaceous earth. I top dressed the pots with Growstone Gnatnix as fungus gnats are pervasive here even though I don't over water. (postedit:I would avoid the greensand in future grows during veg because of potassium OD.
Nutrients and such: adding mycorrhizae, humic acids, and root microbes have definitely helped rapidly develop the plants and roots. I'm seeing some purple stems which is magnesium deficiency from using bottled spring water. Using CalMag to correct.
Light: I added my second Viparspectra 300 as the space is filling out. 2 VIPARSPECTRA 300 @ 136 W each. These are well reviewed full spectrum LEDs.
Training:I FIM'd the apical top leaves after the 3rd node and when the stems seemed solid to encourage branching.
Environment: 2 fans and a homemade swamp cooler to keep temperatures and humidity in range. I keep the space open.

ABOUT ICE BOMB:
"Ice Bomb is an indica dominant hybrid strain created through a potent three-way cross of Vanilla Kush X White Rhino X Bomb #1. This powerhouse bud packs a THC level of 17-22% on average and a myriad of indica heavy effects that are perfect for the night. The Ice Bomb high starts with an immediate cerebral rush that leaves you feeling uplifted yet calm in a state of hazy bliss that numbs your mind and body. As this full body high builds and builds, you’ll fall into a heavy stone that leaves you hopelessly immovable for hours on end. Because of these heavy narcotic effects, Ice Bomb is often chosen by patients who suffer from conditions such as chronic pain, insomnia, chronic stress or anxiety, and tension or muscle spasms. Ice Bomb buds have a sweet creamy flavor with rich hints of chocolate and vanilla and a super smooth exhale. The smell is just as sweet and chocolately, although it has a fragrant floral aroma that accents it beautifully. Ice Bomb buds are insanely frosty and sticky, completely coated with light lavender colored crystal trichomes coating the entirety of each spade-shaped dark purple nug." -Allbud review
Happy growing!
A lot of growth this week! Dark green leaves on the ICE bombs so I didn't add nitrogen fertilizer except for the Cal-Mag.
It’s been hot in the daytime so I’m running a swamp cooler which also raises the humidity favorably.
I'm seeing some prior deficiencies in the lowest leaves and a little nibbling but I am not concerned about either. I'm using SM-90 as foliar spray with neem oil every 3 days. My shower grow is in a bathroom with a small open window facing my outside garden, but I suspect the spider who lives in the window lets some little bugs past.
I pinched/FIMed some but am letting the plants grow and will do some more shaping when it's more established.
If you have constructive suggestions and help, this is only my second grow--please feel welcome to comment! I'm not sensitive about criticism--I am here to improve my grow.

These plants are a dream to grow! They are pretty consistent across the two. There’s a little purple/brown on light leaf edges. The plants otherwise look very healthy. I did some LST using wire, and topping and some lower leaf defoliation to take off the youngest yellowed leaves. I’m giving only Cal-Mag in bottled spring water and raised my lights about 2” to maintain a 12” distance. Update day was Thursday. Updated today, Monday because I was away.
Getting back to Thursday updates. I knocked a couple weeks off this diaries because of slow growth while I was away for 2 weeks (at Burning Man, so check out the updated week’s through my diary to find out what happened!) and had my lights too far but I have edit this to reflect reality. I’m not trying to be deceptive but wanted to give an accurate picture of where the plants should be at, but I am realizing nature has a mind of its own when it comes to time and there is no “should be” just what is. Better to just report history because it explains the present.
I did some creative pipe cleaner LST and mild and gradual defoliation to shape, while continuing to top.
Each plant has been getting an individual diet based on how the leaves are looking, but I have kept nutrients minimal because they are just on their 3rd week after transplanting and should be using what’s in the soil. The ice bombs take light and nutrients well. One is slightly more happy than the other but they are both lovely plants!
Using bottled spring water with CalMag and using about 1 tsp of homemade plain green tea kombucha as acidic ph down when needed. I intend to tranplant into 5 gal equivalent air pots in the next week or two. I do like the smart (fabric) pots, though. They don’t retain water , drain really well, and make no mess. All the soil stays in the bag when flushing. We’ll see how the roots look!
I had to raise the lights another 1” due to plant growth.
Foliar spraying with SM90 plus neem oil about 1x week and Safer soap spray (only soap, no pyrethrins) every 3 day due to some mild bug munching, I believe, or maybe I’m being paranoid. Just say no to bugs!
Southern California is warm and dry this week. Stepping up Cal-Mag this week as my plants are looking much better with using it more aggressively. I believe any burns are from the soil, however I flushed everything but the Gorilla Glue and Ice Bomb that are doing well and starting adding some light grow nutrients. Every watering now has Cal-Mag and root microbes in my water from a jug. I’m watering every other day approximately, as it has been hot and these cloth pots dry out fast. I’m adding nitrients only when the leaves start to lighten back up, about once a week.
All plants got some pipe cleaner LST and a leg shave.
Ice bombs: continue to grow nice and bushy. One is an inch taller @ 6” and a bit more filled out but otherwise they seem consistent.
Thanks for stopping by.
Southern California simmered in weather advisory level heat this last week with temperatures over 100 F even in coastal areas. I ran a DIY bucket swamp cooler to lower heat to 87-90 F in the space while raising the humidity.
I also chose to transplant the larger Ice Bomb before the heat really intensified, probably in good service of the plants. I left the remaining smaller plant until the balance of my airpots arrived then headed south to San Diego for 4 days, leaving my adult spawn to care for my plants with strict instructions of bottled ro water plus a measured amount of Cal- Mag. When I returned, the heat wave had ended and the bigger plant bushed out with growth over just 4 days.
On transplant I continue to use EB Stone Formula 420 Soil ammended with approximately 1/2 gallon of perlite and a handful of worm castings per 3.5 gallon pot. I took time to thoroughly break up compacted soil with my hands, moistened the soil with ro water plus Cal-Mag, humic acid and root microbes. I made a hole for the plant, sprinkled with mycorrhizae and microbes and snuggling the roots in. The roots on both plants looked nicely developed.
Did some topping and mild defoliation of lower leaves. The new growth looks and feels very healthy.
My transplant was much easier thanks to a tip from @GardenofAutos who slips her airpots into a pair of pantyhose to help contain dirt that escapes through the holes. Just tie off the legs and voila, your plants are stylin’!
These Ice Bombs are super nice and easy to grow! They are bushy and really tolerant of heat stress which they felt a bit of last week. Transplanting these went over well and they’re spreading out nicely into the new digs. One is a little bit bigger. I have been defoliating and taking scalps.
Regular neem & soap spray prophylaxis agaist bugs.
I didn’t take a lot of photos as I was battling spider mites! (but I should have) I initially used neem oil, Dr Bronners soap and SM 90. When that wasn’t cutting it, I went to the garden store for sulfur, pyrethrums, and spinosad. I also took everything out of the space, cleaned it with alcohol and removed the most heavily infested plant from the grow, which luckily wasn’t either of these ice bombs. I’m updating late. Things have gotten better!
Some improvement! These are hardy plants, very bushy. Very resistant to bugs despite the infestation. Getting a handle on the mites. Keeping nutes very mild. Watering every 3-4 days.
It’s so warm today! Of course I pulled all my plants out to spray with spinosad an feed/water.
+++++++++++
I use a Hudson 2L sprayer. My partner used to work in the film industry and they found this brand of sprai gets the most thorough even coverage for makeup or whatever movie magic the use sprayers to create. It’s great.
+++++++++++
I’m using some baking soda in water to combat some mild pmd, but it’s not bad.
+++++++++++
These ICE BOMBS are troopers. They were definitely affected by the spider mites but hung in there three the various sprays which were hard on leaves even though I pulled them out and didn’t return them under the light until they dried.
+++++++++++
Some fungal gnats come with the humidity so I topdressed with gnat nix. I don’t believe I overwater so I hope that’s the solution! I think I may wait another week or two and get things more stable before moving to flower.
Getting my supports into place and then will flip this coming week. Mites seem under control, still using soap spray and systemic spinosad in watering. The two middle most plants are Ice Bomb. I have not been feeling well so I have not pulled them all out for photos this week.
So, there was this really big fire near where I live. My home is fine, but it’s been hard to get back to everyday life.
The ice bombs look fabulous! Power messed up my timers so I just went ahead and flipped.
Gradually ramped light down from 18 hours to 12 after power outages due to the fire, and it was about good time to flip anyway.
It is so much easier to control temperature during the winter in my space. The lights keep the space at a pretty steady 74 F.
I only popped two seeds but these are very consistent plants. One was transplanted to a bigger pot a week later and was slightly smaller. Lots of buds forming! They aren’t super fussy about nutrients—still,I haven’t pushed PPM and am keeping Ph in the 6-6.8 range.
I’m using peony rings as support and to spread a little but I am not training for a perfectly flat canopy as I had excellent popcorn nugs in my last grow even with the lights over 2x further than optimal.
Defoliated the lower branches but I am not defoliating aggressively, but will continue to remove any withering leaves.
Sorry for the slow updates. The fire has been pretty traumatic for my city and myself, and I’m just getting back to normal life. My home, family and pets are safe, and the fire is mostly contained.
Thank you for checking out my diary. Happy holidays and I hope Santa Ja brings you a giant tree!
Sorry for the purple lights.
Ice bombs are flowering beautifullyand stretching dramatically. I have not measured height yet.
I had some issues with fungus gnats. I added more gnatnix, yellow sticky traps and got some beneficial nematodes to eat their little fungus gnat larvae.
I move and rotate the plants around every few days to even out light exposure.
I did some defoliation but am being pretty careful.
Shorter plant is 15”, larger is 18”.
Unfortunately I got a ball. Just one. I hope it’s a uniball. I’m snipping it off and keeping watch and checking for light leaks.
Beneficial nematodes and the sticky trap seem to have handled the gnat issue. I’m continuing to use nematodes after watering, and the traps will remain.
I did a little trimming but probably won’t do much more defoliation until the stretch is over.
This will probably be my last shower grow. I think it makes more sense to get a bigger space like a tent or build one and some more lights. It’s getting cramped in there. It’s also starting to reek.
I water about every 2-3 days using a 1/2 gallon jug to mix my nutes. I’m keeping ph close to 6.5 and ppms between 600-800. I don’t use nutes in every watering—it depends on how the plants look.
I do more frequent updates on Instagram @thefairybudmother.
The scent if this flower is insane. It’s sweet and fresh kind of like Jean Nate but intoxicating like ylangylang.
It really doesn’t smell like weed. The flowers on this are gorgeous. I’m in love with it and will definitely grow it again.
Defoliated a bit and did some rearranging in the grid ti optimize exposure of bud sites to light. The buds are stacking nicely.
It’s been raining here in Southern California as you probably know but luckily nothing too sporty is going on near me. It has been humid and the girls seem to be celebrating with jazz hands. I may need to nix the swamp cooler in the next week as RH has been around 58% with temperatures of 74F.
The war with the gnats seems to have settled down.
Sorry this week is mostly images of buds over the plants. I rearranged and put these ladies in the back where they get lots of light.
Still smells lovely and sweet. I’m doing water, microbes and carbs every other watering. About 2 waterings per week of 1/2 gallon (2Litres for non US).
Nothing crazy to report. Just lots of stacking!
Just fattening up and stacking. The scent is delicious: slightly artificial vanilla and lemon sugar with a spicy alcohol undertone. I accidentally underwatered this week so I believe they are drinking a little more.
Still not there. I harvested a test bud and under 120x magnification, I was seeing a good amount of clear trichomes. I prefer milky to amber. Leaves are starting to lighten up on the larger of the two and sugar leaves are turning purple. Alternating water only with water with Terpinator and molasses. Two plants. One has a 5-6” cola stacking taller with many smaller buds. The other has many 3-5” colas and should give a decent yield. The scent is sweet vanilla with a chocolate undertone.
I cut a sample bud last weekend to look more closely at trichomes and decided to wait another week to harvest. I will check again tomorrow. I defoliated and moved everything around. I added a 100 W CFL on a clip light to a shadier area. The scent is really strong.
Watching trichomes closely and using plain water over the past week. The largest of the two plants stopped responding much to watering and became resplendent with milky plus amber trichomes as the leaves faded and purpled up. On 2-15 I chose to harvest her. I weighed out 3.4 oz of untrimmed wet bud on 2-16, as I plan to dry trim. Second plant harvested 2-18. I will put up a harvest report when both plants are harvested. The smaller plant is approximately a week behind. I’m pleased with the yield but I really have no experience to know how these dense meaty buds will weigh out when dried. I have only removed the most easily plucked sugar leaves to facilitate drying and later trim. I have taken two medium sized riper buds from this plant over the past two weeks to dry and sample. I have only tried the first one and will say that the buzz was potent, delightful with a very sweet delicious flavor despite being uncured and grassy.
*****
Currently the scent is an almost artificial vanilla, sugar and chocolate.
******
Compared to my bagseed and my one previous grow, these plants have been resilient against transplant stress, heat, pests, and pmd. My only concern was the appearance of a ball, which I plucked off and had not since observed more of them. Unlike the smaller plant that has one large cola with many heavy but smaller ones, the larger one sported many larger colas.
******
For my next grow I would like to add more light or switch up to COBs move into a larger space, be it a tent or a diy grow room, augment my soil with coco as well as perlite, if not switch mediums entirely, be more gentle with transplant and add enzymes and bloom boosters to my supplements.
******
I know this was a long grow. Thank you for hanging with me throughout. Special thanks to my friends in the now crabfree Wolfpack on kik for your help and encouragement.
*******
Thank you Bombseeds for sending me these fantastic beans and for your help and support.
Thank you to WhiteWidow for hooking me up with Terpinator, and special thanks to Terpinator for sending me your very easy to use and effective product.

__about me:
I am a 54 year old woman with a California Prop 215 compliant medical grow. Cannabis helped me detox off of bupenorphine (Suboxone), an opioid medication used to treat opioid dependence. I was on large doses of fentanyl and morphine for several years prior to Suboxone, and at one point was taking 17 prescription medications for neuropathic pain caused by a spinal cord tumor, endometriosis and interstitial cystitis. I am currently off all prescription medications and continue to use cannabis for pain and stress reduction, primarily in the evenings. Being able to grow my own has offered me more control over quality and trichome ripeness, both of which are crucial to effectiveness for me.
