Photos from the 14th October the ladys are looking ruff really dropped the ball on this grow been busy as hell with work and life but there resilient and are growing still so will end up with some smoke regardless
@NeedsMoreFans, thanks for your input mate appreciate it I did start this grow with the plan of getting a couple oz of personal smoke from the northern lights and gorilla glue to see me over till my next harvest and the 2 dwarf are for canna butter for edibles all the flowers will be dry sifted for kief also so all is not lost
@El_Jeffe, my two cents is to determine how much yield you achieve with your current grow. Then compare it to your usage and determine what would be more beneficial to your personal needs on determining your next solo grow. I alternate between indica and sativa with each grow because I'm only doing one at a time and need to keep up on each side as much as possible. When I have the ability to dedicate the time to multiple plants I will, but probably won't exceed two at a time. My wife and I vape the flower, instead of smoking, so we don't need to use nearly as much each session and are considered microdosers. On several good days, we can stretch a gram of flower out over three days. So I would suggest thinking about your needs. Side positive note to vaping your flower, you can save the AVB (Already Vaped Bud) and make oil out of it for later consumption. Double usage!
I also wouldn't say you made a mistake by topping the Northern Lights. You did what you felt was best for your set up at the time and was hoping to achieve a certain result. You may not have achieved that result but you were able to find the upside and that's good. I also would consider topping the Northern Lights again on another grow and see if it responds the same way. It may surprise you and grow like you are hoping, and if not, then you have at least two runs under your belt telling you what you can probably expect from this genetic lineage. It's a win/win either way for you.
All around though, things are looking lovely in the garden and you have nothing to worry about from what you are showing us. 👏👍👊
@CastaFunk, I will be using fabric pots from now on a little tip if your going to train your plants and plan on putting your ties directly through the fabric pots be carefull when moving your plants Its so easy to accidently brake a tied down branch
@A_Haze_THAI420,hi the northern light was the only plant topped she was topped at day 24 and showed signs of recovery two days later
I top on the 5th node once the growth is established doing it at this stage of growth should give you 8 tops
You can top earlier but I wouldn't recommend top any later than 25 days if you do it will stress the plant as she starts her pre flower stretch
Hope this information helps you out
@NeedsMoreFans,
Will be doing a propper update the weekend with pictures but I started to do some pony tailing today on the gorilla glue and Northern light and I have also noticed some yellowing of the leaves on both plants not sure of the cause yet so I give them a light feed of biobizz grow 1/2ml to 2 litre of water
@El_Jeffe, no worries on the lack of replies. Don't let the plants get you down. I don't know if it will help cheer you up at all, but by showing the bad things that happen, you are not only helping yourself but other growers. You will have a reminder of what can happen to that lineage if the pH shifts, and you are informing others of what they might see with the same lineage. Problems are opportunities to succeed.
@NeedsMoreFans,
Sorry for the lack of replies mate been a bit down about the plants kind of didn't want to show them off much but it is what it is
I'm sure it was a pH issue but I think it's under control the plants are still developing good the end result won't be as good but it's medicine and it's all organic so I'll be happy
@El_Jeffe, that GG is taking off like a rocket. Have you topped this strain of NL before with good results? Also, those leaves are fat compared to everybody else, and look good. The Dwarfs are living up to their name so far 😃.
@El_Jeffe, we all get busy at some point in time, so no worries man. Check me out when you get time, no rush.
The GG looks almost text book for ideal growth.
I've tried NL twice, from Royal Queen Seeds, but the first one, first grow ever, died from over watering. The second one had a fabric pot that didn't like the environment change I put it through and molded. I haven't tried another yet, but I have 1 more seed I'm saving.
When it comes to topping, I've had various degrees of success with autos. I don't know if I want to do it again or just get better at LST and use that exclusively.
@NeedsMoreFans, thanks man I'm impressed with the GG her structure is so easy to manage she has a almost even canpoy with hardly any training gonna tie her down today even it out some more she's almost finished her stretch and started showing signs of preflower
The NL I have never grown this strain before from this breeder any way my first ever grow was NL from sensi seeds and I messed up so bad with her only got a few grams but tonnes of experience
I have never topped a plant before the only reason I topped the NL is due to the big indica leaves like you mentioned there a nightmare lol blocking the lower sites I tried tucking them and tried to ponytail her but the lower sites would not budge hope the shock from the topping will send the lower branches reaching for the light if it doesn't work then lesson learnt the hard way I have 3 more seeds so I will know for next time
I have grown Royal dwarf before and this one is big compared to the other 3 all 3 grew with one 12inch cola and minimal side branching but the one I have now looks small but has loads of side branches I think it's due to just been stuck in the corner away from direct light so I'm guessing she's just growing wild to get some light I rotate the pot twice a day so I think that has helped with the side branches shooting out I'll be happy with what ever she produces she will be made into kief and cannabutter any way
I will check out your grow now been busy the past few weeks
Looking good so far @El_Jeffe. I may pony tail on the next grow, I don't know yet. I'm hoping you get some real nice results with that technique. How many weeks in are you going to go before you defoliate?
@El_Jeffe, I have not done any defoliation yet. I'm going to see how long I can go before doing that. I would like to not do that, I've done it before with this strain, but I would like to try and not do it. If you do defoliate, yes, lower leaves for sure depending on your air flow, and any leaves growing to the inside. If I do defoliate, it will be leaves that are going to block the interior bud sites. I'm not worried about any of the leaves that are on the outside of the structure as they shouldn't be blocking anything. If watering is a pain because of the leaves, have you tried a hose extension off your watering can? You could get some clear tubing from your local hardware store with some clamps and attach that to the end of your watering can's nozzle. Of course that depends on how big the nozzle is on your can, and if you are using a can. I don't want to make any assumptions, but just a suggestion to help you avoid defoliation if you don't want to do it, and struggle less with the feeding.
@NeedsMoreFans, I was thinking about stripping some lower leaves because it's a pain to feed her but I don't want to stress her out have you done any defoliation
@El_Jeffe, that is very true, and something I was thinking about while typing my post. I get impatient after like 4 weeks of flowering. It is nice to see them ripen, but yes, 2 week can feel like 2 months. So I like the stretch phase then, most activity per day 😀.
@NeedsMoreFans, yeah I know what you mean but I like the veg phase you can be more hands on and implement some LST for me late flower is more painstaking wondering if there done checking the trichombs every day hoping they fatten up more and put on that extra weight 2 weeks can feel like 2 months
Just checking in @El_Jeffe and seeing if all is well in the garden. I had a calcium deficiency issue I needed to address to not interfere with flower development. I saw you talk about the air-pots and it has given me something think about for future grows. I wanted to do an air-pot, because of the pros you mentioned, but I never considered the cons. Thank you for sharing.
