Finally! Flowers starting to show. Set up cage last week to help with wind once buds are in. Measured height today, coming in at 10.5 feet for Gorilla, 7 for Trip Cheese, and just over 6 for Wedding Gelato
A great week for bud growth, but found some flying black ants and non-winged ants by plant base. Growing 100% organic so did a little ground culitivation and then hard packed it back down. Then sprinkled cinnamon on top (read about it online). Seems to have worked really well, no sign of either since. Cooler/wetter temps have also brought some powdery mildew to the Wedding Gelato (see pics), trying apple cider vinegar/water spray (2-3 drops per gallon), here's hoping next week's pics are clean.
Good week for GZ, but not a lot of action on the cheese and gelato. Apple Cider Vinegar spray not working great on Wedding Gelato powdery mildew. Going to try a few more applications before attempting new method. Measured Gorilla last Thursday, 10' 7".
Not a lot of sun last week, was hoping for more flower development. Sun has also moved in the sky so they aren't getting as much do to structures and a large maple now blocking the light more than before. This week has been beautiful, here's hoping we get a good push and get these ladies over the finish line before it gets too cold.
A sunny week which was much needed! Sun has moved in the sky so the ladies aren't getting as much due to a Norway Maple canopy now stealing some of their light. :(. Good flower growth this week and next week looks sunny and warm, here's hoping we get them over the finish line. Powdery mildew not leaving the gelato, a fellow grower recommended trying the milk recipe for getting rid of it (thanks sKitzO) so I'll give that a go as the vinegar doesn't seem to be doing much. May look at thinning them a bit as well so the light that does come through gets to the important stuff. Also, this is an organic grow and I've been feeding them with Bio Bloom which they have received really well. Thinking this past feed will be the last, but may do on more this weekend. Just want to make sure there's time to properly flush. Finally, played around with my jewelers loop a bit this week and managed to get a couple of shots through it with my i-phone so I posted one for you. Pretty cool the way it turned out. Looks from the trichomes that I still have a bit of time, lots of milky, some still clear, little to no amber yet. See you all soon.
An interesting week. Still not a lot of sun making it to the plants, but the buds keep filling out. Overall condition of each strain: Gorilla continues to be a monster, she's super tough, seems to be mold resistant, and is beautiful to look at. Will definitely grow a Gorilla of some type again. Wedding Gelato is producing some absolutely beautiful buds; super frosty with awesome leaf shape. Hoping to see them fill out a bit more but loving seeing her grow. Triple cheese is the only disappointment. She started off far better than the other 2 (see the first few weeks' postings), but just couldn't keep up. Tops are in good shape but are really the only ones I can show pics of, the rest are looking like they are going to be popcorn. If too small, I'll most likely rough trim and end up making hash from. Speaking of which, saw a cool video on YouTube of a guy who wraps kief in paper and packing tape then soaks in water before baking for 9 minutes at 340. Then, wets again and bakes for another 9 minutes other side before rolling with a rolling pin. Tried it and it works!! Made some old-school black super easily, highly recommend. Also, tried a new solution on the WPM and it worked WAY better than the vinegar. Recipe: 1 gallon of tap water, 1 tea spoon of biodegradable phosphate and bleach free dish soap, 1 teaspoon hemp oil, and 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Amazing difference before and after application! Thanks to everyone for the recommendations, here's hoping the WPM stays at bay. Getting worried about weather, nights are dropping down to the low teens (around 50-55 for our American friends) and it's fall so there's more rain than before. The ladies definitely don't look as happy each morning but they do perk up well during the day. Although I want the buds to fill out a bit more, I'd be happy to start planning harvest, but the biggest deterrent for me right now are the trichomes. The jewelers loupe is showing ALL milky and some even clear, almost zero amber showing up. Any thoughts on what I should do? Thanks again, see you next week.
ROBBED.
This will be my last post. Came down Friday morning to find Gorilla Zkittlez and Triple Cheese stolen in the night. They must have been casing the spot for a while; they waited right to last minute and seemed to know where all of the cowbells and traps were on and around the plants. They left behind the Wedding Gelato, I'm assuming because they couldn't carry any more. Had to harvest it early to make sure they don't come back for that one. Branch pic is of the one branch of Gorilla I found on the ground. The others are the yield from the Gelato and what my garden looked like when I went outside Fri morning. Not sure how much I'll end up with when it drys, thinking maybe a QP. What really pisses me off is that these dickless little fuckers are probably going to screw up the trimming, drying, and curing and wreck what would have been some unbelievable outdoor bud. It's been a great experience and I wouldn't change any of it, even though it feels like shit right now. Good luck fellow growers, make sure you protect your ladies. Peace.
OMG Murph!
I am crushed for you mate. I can't even imagine how you feel.
It leaves a sick feeling in my stomach not to mention all that hard work, dedication, money and love you put into those girls. Damn breaks my heart
Those FUCKERS!!! For years when pot was illegal, all you had to worry about were the cops. Today it's legal but you have to worry about assholes stealing your crops? Fuck them! I wish you caught them red handed so you could have killed them lol although it's probably best you didn't cuz dicks like that have nothing to lose and you could have got hurt. So for that alone consider it a blessing,
I'm sure this is just a set back for you however if it isn't, try not to let this experience hinder you from growing again. Wishing you peace and happy vibes 💪 👊
Thos motherfucks man I hate to see that happen to ppl spend all that time and everything put ur love in to your plants and some worthless piece of s*** comes along and takes your hard work sincerely sorry to hear fucking assholes
Hey Murph. 👋
Your journal caught my eye seeing as you’re a fellow Ontario outdoor grower. If the vinegar doesn’t work, try a milk recipe.
Those sure are some massive plants, but you’ll save yourself a lot of waste by thinning them out. It will allow more air flow and light penetration which is super key come mid to end of September. No one want to see bud rot, and it’s inevitable with our cooler Ontario nights and heavy morning dew. Them big buds need some time to dry out, and we’re losing 3 minutes of sun a day now. Good luck, I’ll be watchin.
Thanks sKitzO, I'm a first time grower so I'm not too sure what to do now. I've heard that thinning while in flower can put stress on the plant and even make them turn hermie . Is this not true? I lolipopped them pretty heavily just before they went to flower so the middles are all thinned right out. Would love to thin out some of these, but am worried about the stress. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks again and good luck with your grows.
Glad you still had one! Chances are that you knew those who took them since they sympathetically left you one.
Been growing outdoors in Ontario since '85 and they only guarantee you have is that people will be looking for your plants.
Go with shorter strains, but they will always come back now since they scored last year, and you did not build a compound(law) to keep them out.
I topped 2' off my Moby Dick four different times last year and it was still at the top of my 7' fence when finished. It was in a compound(and I own a dog), so I harvested all 4 last year.
Don't give up though, or those pricks have won.
That's a real bummer man ☹️
There is a special place reserved in Hell for worthless fuckers who steal outdoor grows from hobbyists like us. The Gelato looks nice tough. Hope u get a decent tasty smoke of it👌
Murph, that sucks big time. Although it’s pretty difficult I always try to look for the silver lining. You grew some monsters, but your space is clearly compromised outdoor. Next year, can you make them more portable and keep them in a locked shed/garage?
Also, did you call the police? If not, you should consider it. Is Canadian growers have the right to grow our 4 plant, and theft is theft. Likely won’t amount to anything, but we need to show out government where the issues are their their pot policy.
It sucks, but you still did get to harvest, so congrats on that, and enjoy the smoke.
Groomie, I can't believe what happened😱
I was looking at your diary the previous day and was amazed by the plants.
I feel so sorry for you and angry at the same time, thinking somebody did this.😪
Hey man I delt with a mild case of white powdery mildew in late June early August. This is the mix I used.
1L sprayer bottle with 1 ml of hydrogen peroxide 27%. Mixed with (enzymes komplete natural cleaner )4ml. Spray the effected area.
I used this before we started flowering in Ontario. I am not a fan of spraying anything when the plants are flowering unless it's absolutely necessary.
Hope this helps
Thanks Ssomeguy, Here's hoping they make it over the finish line. Sun is the big factor right now; days getting shorter and the sun has moved in the sky so a large Norway Maple is stealing more of their light. Good luck with your grows.
