I just transplanted them in 3gal pots with foxfarm ocean soil and haven't given any nutes yet since the soil is so hot. After my first watering the runoff pH was 4.8! And I watered with 6.8 pH, any ideas what caused it to drop so much?

Hi @joegrows42! Yes, FoxFarmNutrients are known to be hot, but your plant looks strong enough to handle it. About the pH drop, my guess is that you give her tap water, and your tap water probably contains loads of calcium and magnesium, this often leads to pH fluctuations. Plus, the amount of microorganisms in your new soil can make the pH becomes acidic within a few hours, but this must stabilize after a few waterings at buffered pH (~6.2). Hope this will help, let us know how this goes, and happy growing! 👊

Yes it's there soil you didn't do anything. But instead of 6.8 should of went to 7.0 a few times then go to 6.8. Just cuz the pH of soil was so low to begin with. Another tip check pH of soil a couple of days before transplant if off fix then do your transplant.

Yes I know! Fox Farm soils are notorious for be inconsistent and having a low ph. I speak from experience after using their Happy Frog soil. Not sure where you live but when I mix up my soil I typically add some Epsoma Pelletized Lime to the mix. Before you water next time I would try to add 4 Tablespoons of the pelletized lime to the top inch of the soil then water it in it is not fast acting so it may take a watering or two until you see a change. If its still too low add another table spoon at a time each week until your runoff gets into the 5.8 ph range at least. I would keep using the 6.8 ph water until your runoff ph comes back up. Hope this helps.👍
