Planted 4 clones July 6th in the ground. 2 green crack and 2 OG Kush planted nearby. Girlfriend planted them too closely though and at this time we didn't care much about them. Little did I know I'd get hooked after watching them grow! These are the first pictures I have 6 weeks after planting the clones which were originally about 18" tall, I'm not sure of the age of them. They came in 2gal pots and dropped drastically when we put them in the ground but they came back on their own. I often have wondered if we created hardy plants by not treating them well in the beginning which has left them to being resilient to low sun levels and still growing.

Continued new bud sites proping up everywhere. They seemed quite spread out at this time. Plant is still quite bushy. No nutrients added, I started watering once or twice a week combined with rainfall. I cut away any unpromising lower bud sites at this point under the assumption it would help the plant focus on the more prominent stronger branched sites coming in. Almost every knuckle on the inside of the canopy was cut off with some fan leaves. In hindsight I would've left a few more on the thicker branches like likely would've sprouted into some decent buds.

First sign of Flowering this week. This is when I started getting into it. They stretched pretty good in a week as well. Still only occasional watering other than rain and not a single nutrient added except the home depot garden soil mixed in when they were planted. Bit of a sweet smell starting to form from the girls as well. No plant training yet either.

Sorry for the only pictures for this week, I mustve been busy. Wish I had discovered this site earlier so I wouldnt have to look back. There wasn't much goin on this week on my part but the plant was busy with some of the flowers filling out. New bud sites popped up all over. Pistils started sprouting out quite well this week as well. I still had not fertizilized yet as I had just started researching companys and products and hadnt bought yet. 1g watering per day from my tap city water. My only PH measurement is from the soil with a cheaper meter that also measures light and moisture. Usually the meter hits 7 which I know is a little high but at this point the plant has done so well on its own I just wanted to leave it be.

Buds starting to fill out nicely. I got into it at this point and added some Maxi Bloom fertilizer and top dressed the soil some some left over garden soil from home depot. I think they really started to get moving on flower production here, sites started to fill out and combine at this point which was exciting. I was still scared that I had ruined the plants from the defoliation I did. I definitely earned and will be applying LST techniques and less defoliation next grow! The tips of the fan leaves turned a little yellow which I learned was from adding nutrients all of a sudden even at half strength. Also got some blackstrap molasses to add in some carbs to help density and flavour. I bought Ed Rosenthals's Marijuana growers handbook and read it front to back this week. I also ran out and bought a 3x3 grow tent setup with 1 300w LED and 1 600W LED lights. I am now hooked on growing cannabis. I've always gardened most of my life but this is more fun than any tomato or cucumber plant! I also bought a pocket microscope and some clippers this week.

Read an article on defoliation and got carried away. Later I read about leaving most fan leaves on due to the sun having more penetration. I think I stalled the plant growth for most of the week. I also unknowingly at the time discovered the first sign of white powdery mildew but thought it to just be dust or something. As you can see the plant on the left was heavily defoliated after reading an article on it. The plant on the right only about 60 percent and the two smaller ones in the back closer to 80 percent. I noticed the plant on the left stall for basically the entire week, the one on the right only a few days of shock then seemed to continue on. My watering can hooked one of the thinner lower branches and broke it off. Luckily it looked like it wasn't too unripe so I dried it for a week and cured it for a couple days and sampled it daily. While still a little on the wet side obviously it produced a good high that made me look forward to the final product of the rest of the plants.

No nutrients added this week due to the nutrient burn resulting from the Maxigrow. I figure they made it this far on their own Ill leave them be. Unfortunately the corner we picked to plant unknowingly is the shadiest corner of my backyard. Two plants in the neighbours yard pretty much deny them full on light except for 4-6hrs of the day, otherwise the light has to go through a semi filled in tree. Started adding molasses and watering the plants 1g daily. This is also when I started doing a lot of research and learned the white substance was actually white powdery mold. By now it had spread to a few dozen leaves. I bought some defender spray from Safer brand and sprayed the plants. It is a sulfur products and debating on whether final bud quality will be affected but it helped keep the mildew at bay. I also cut or plucked any leaves that had a significant amount on them. This was the week I discovered the white substance on my leaves was white powdery mildew! After thorough research and reading Ed Rosenthals MARIJUANA GROWERs Handbook I went with a spray I found as quickly as possible to try to contain it. It was Safers DEFENDER non toxic fungicide. I learned later that sulfur was better as a preventative than treatment. EIther way I sprayed the entire plant during the day top to bottom with it. The next day much to my sadness there was still a few spots here and there. I started wiping the spots off with papertowel daily as I read that can help. Defoliated any leaves that were any more that minorly infected. No sign of the WPM at sugar leaves are near buds thankfully. Strangely the top colas still are mostly white pistils meanwhile the lower branches that seemingly receive less sunlight have almost all turned brown. Trichomes are mostly clear at this point.

Best treatment for combating white powdery mildew at first sign of it? I used a non toxic sulfur spray with some defoliation of the more prominent leaves, especially any close to a bud site. It helped keep it at bay but had to be reapplied weekly and still fighting it daily.

Looks like your close to harvest. If the Milk cure doesn't do the job you can use 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar to 1 quart of water and spray her early in the morning before the sun is shining on her to prevent any leaf burn. This is the more extreme treatment of the two. Hope this helps👍

The 2 week battle against WPM has taken a toll. I had to reapply the sulfur spray early this week and bought some "White Wash' from the local hydroponic store. It is basically just water with some kind of electron charge or some BS, but desperate times result in desperate measures. I've fought hard to keep the mildew from reaching the buds by wiping it off with papertowel on every single leaf I see with it every single day. Its been tedious but I didnt give up and have seen a drastic reduction in it overall. It has taken me an hour or two a day, combined with hitting remaining faint patches with the white wash water spray. Most spots I find are faint and minor with the odd leaf in the bushier sections hiding for awhile and building up a little bit of it. I pluck these ones right off. Daily 1gallon waterings with blackstrap molassess combined with heavier than usual rainfall has them good to go with waterings. I gave my last dose of nutrient early this week as well expecting to be approx 2-3 more weeks to harvest. I only doses at 1/4 strength just in case WPM got worse and I'd have to just harvest. At this point I was getting very antsy and looking to harvest. Everyday I inspect ready to pull the trigger if the mildew looks like it has gotten out of control. Most trichomes I found were milky with some clear and the very are amber head. Due to shorter days here in Ontario the girls are barely getting any direct sunlight in their shady corner of doom. Growth appears to have slowed down significantly likely due to this however as you can see some of the best bud sites on the the girls have thickened or filled out nicely, I was worried they would be far to airy but my persistence in keeping the mildew at bay to allow them more time has paid off. Rest assured I have a new sunny spot picked out for next year. As you can see through some of the buds on the lower branches pistils have all turned brown with some starting to look rusty hinting at them being overdue. Strange that the buds at the top are seemingly behind even though they get the most sun.

Couldn't keep up with the WPM. The combination of warm days and cool nights in the start of this fall has made it a perfect storm for WPM to form overnight when the leaves are moist and the air is humid. I was out there and decided to cut every single leaf with any sign of it off. Got 1 plant done and when I got to the other GC plant I threw the towel in when I found a few bugs I believe to be aphids., plus a seriously hard storm had blasted them the night before and this plant was keeled over pretty good with top heavy colas weighing the branches down. Trichomes are mostly cloudy with the very odd amber. I know the pistils at the top are still 50-60 percent yellowed (not clear or white) but the rest of the plant is mostly brown pistils and a lighter green with hints of yellow on the leaves indicated it was getting there so I chopped her down, trimmed very tight to the buds to ensure any sugar leaf with WPM is removed from the buds. I did not find a single patch of WPM on any buds thankfully and inspected each one carefully. Found the off little egg looking white bean here and there. I'm assuming whatever bug has started to hand around. Plant is up hanging in my grow tent at 60 percent RH and 20 degrees C with the exhaust fan running on top and a circ fan at an opening in the bottom to pull in and circulate air. I know I need to ensure I keep an eye out for any WPM and discard immediately and keep humidity down and airflow up during this process. I did not get to flush for as long as I wanted, however the last nute dose was only 1/4 strength and heavy heavy rainfall combined with daily waterings have hopefully done the trick. We'll see if any taste from the white wash surfaces although being 99.9% water I doubt it. The sulfur from the Defender spray should hopefully also have washed out by now. I have a scale on the way and will weigh in the dry product from both plants when they are done. OG Kush will not be included in this log as they were pretty much shoved out of the way by the GC and won't produce much.

Woke up today sick so called into work. Watered the remaining GC Plant 1gal + Blackstrap Molasses spread around. Sprayed any mildew sites with the White Wash which I've decided I will do daily until harvesting. It is 99.9 percent water and likely not very helpful but worse case it blasts some growth off just from getting hit by it. Overall only fan leaves and only some have very faint WPM after defoliating a bunch yesterday. I realize the plant likely will not grow much over the next few days but we are supposed to get a bunch of sun so I'm hoping I get a little morte density in the buds. They are likely on the airy side due to lack of light. In the end I'll be quite happy with this grow regardless of outcome just in the experience and learning I've done and finding a new hobby! The sixth picture shows a very small bug. I found a few of them here and there as well as what looked to be some kind of tiny egg. Not sure if these are aphids are just some type of bug. Either way the White Wash I spray hits most of them off as well and they are pretty sparse. The smell off this plant and the one harvested last night is super strong now and sweet. This plant was heavily defoliated which was a mistake in terms of it needing more leaves for energy from the sun but I think may have helped in it being less affected by the WPM due to it have more airflow. Either way next grow indoor or outdoor I will only defoliate 40-60 percent like the other one and ensure I do it in veg and early in flower to prevent shocking it as much. Pulled the trigger on an amazon order to get my grow tent setup for a winter grow. Also got a scale to weigh this harvest in when it is dried. It won't be massive but like I said with what I learned it will be worth it no matter the scale weight.

Chopped down the second Green Crack yesterday as it was supposed to rain all weekend and I wouldn't have time during the week. Trich inspections are about 70percent cloudy 20 percent clear 10 percent amber. May have been still a little immature but I don't think I was going to get much more progress out of it. Shes up hanging in the basement for a slow dry at 60 percent RH, 20 degrees with a fan pn the ground pushing air around. First girl is still in the tent drying nicely, a few more days left until Jars. I'll update with the weigh in on each plant once dry is done for both. Again overall a great experience I learned a lot to apply for the next one. Growing directly in the ground in quality soil is a great way to grow, they were never nutrient deficient, never had to worry about underwatering and they basically grew themselves for most of their life. The only issue I had is they weren't movable and late in the season did not get much sun in the corner I put them in. I've selected an ideal spot for next year to build a raised bed in full sun all day and will be taking a go at organic super soil!! The buds are quite airy and I found a few seeds in them. I wish I could've left them in longer but I couldn't risk losing it all to the mildew! Either way 80 grams dry from 1 plant, likely the same or more from the other one still hanging and 2 OG Kush still in the garden, hoping they gain some density, I'll take it! Final: this plant dried weight came in at 79 grams. Funny how it was a gram under the other plant but almost filled a whole extra mason jar.
