Week 6 Greengenes Bloom Booster formula, mixed per gal, fresh daily: 2g Jacks Hydro 2g Epsom 2.7g Cal Nit 1.2g MOAB or MKP 740 ppm w/additives End: Day 42 Pulled tops down through screen and exposed as many side shoots as possible Added: 15ml/liter freshly extracted young coconut water added to feed mid-week. It's full of natural plant hormones to boost growth, provides a great amount of carbs and it makes the feed water smell really good. Almost tropical.

Nice looking lady! I am currently doing a Green Gelato as well. Good luck with your grow. MG
MEANGREEN

@happytrees, 10 years in myself as well funnily enough and as you said, still learning each and every grow. It looks like I have some phenos sharing the same characteristics as yours. I have limited space to keep mums, but I intend to keep 3-4, but I’d be good with just 1-2 as well. I have taken clones of the best looking and most vigorously growing plants. They all rooted within 7 days. Which is already a good sign. I really hope to get lucky in terms of the phenos this time round with the Green Gelato’s. And to be honest, I think you will pull more than 2oz , I’m guessing (and hoping) more in the at least 3oz range. I’ve seen some great scores on the scale from some growers having grown Green Gelato and doing extensive training. Best of luck on your way forward as well!

@MEANGREEN, Couldn't agree more. All about that tlc. Sounds very relatable, minus the glow-up growspace on my end. Almost 10 years myself. Definitely teaches you a lot! Still learning much more.πŸ‘ I got really lucky with this pheno. First one didn't pop. It's almost like it was a sign.. lol. If I had the space, I would totally make this one a mother. For my personal needs, 2oz will go a long way in my vape. Hoping to shoot for more than that with all this training. Would totally have a field day in your setup. Best of luck on your way forward!

@happytrees, When I started growing I started with 1 single plant, because out of the 3 seeds I bought, only one would germinate. It's only years after of trying it out very small scale that I scaled up to the amount of plants I am currently growing. However, it's not about the amount of plants you have, it's about how much TLC you give them individually :-) The main reason for me to have 40 (of which only 32 are left at the moment) is to look for great phenotypes and hold on to those. I would love to have all 32 of my Green Gelatos looking as lush and bushy as yours! Cheers MG

She's beautiful, mate! That's a lot of stretching happening. If mine will stretch as much as yours, I'm in trouble...
happytrees
happytreescommented5 years ago
@Nickeluring, Totally feel you. I didn't anticipate any of that extended stretching. My canopy was looking so well last week too. Hopefully your pheno turns out the way you want. The colas don't actually grow sideways, by the way. The very top portion of the cola naturally bends itself upwards towards the light, so what you get is this near 90 degree L shape, as shown in my supercrop recovery pic. The budsites below the top shoot naturally find their way pointing towards the light and look like mini trees. It's really cool to look at. I'll try to get better pics of this after full recovery.
Nickeluring
Nickeluringcommented5 years ago
@happytrees, I was hoping the way she has been trained, she won't stretch so much, but you never know...I sure hope I won't have to do any late super cropping, my colas wouldn't be happy growing sideways. The plan from start was to do all the training at the beginning and none in the end.
happytrees
happytreescommented5 years ago
@Nickeluring, Thanks man! I was forced to supercrop every top shoot for some headroom. I can't vouch for it enough. Give it a go if you run into similar issues. Mine adapted to it within 12 hours. She doesn't mind it at all! Your plant is beyond happy and would totally endure it. I see you're using silica. That will help a lot.

@happytrees, Yes, go ahead and try it. I'd be happy to help you out in case you need any support. I'm super happy with how the training turned out.

happytreescommented5 years ago
@Nickeluring, Man, I hope so.. I'm too eager to get this finished and get started on a mainlining experiment. Stumbling onto your journal got me really into it. Def looking forward to that method after seeing your results πŸ’ͺ

Nice looking buds, buddy. I love the bud on the fan leaf. Haha, perhaps I shouldn't have defoliated my plants. Be careful when using strings for training. They can cut your plants if you're unlucky.
happytrees
happytreescommented5 years ago
@Nickeluring, Thanks for the heads up! Much appreciated. I use paracord with hooks to do my tie downs. Really good stuff to work with. Very safe! The lower scrog net in the pic is really thin and cheap material, so I ended up not using it as much as the top scrog Had to loosen it up early on just to avoid those cuts you mentioned

The buds look so good! I'm happy for you that it tastes so well. I can't wait to try mine. Mine is all alone in the tent now and she's bulking up nicely and her smell is the best I've ever smelled. She'll shortly be joined by a few seedlings, though. Happy harvest times!! I have 2 plants hanging at the moment while waiting for the Green Gelato to finish up.

@Nickeluring, Semi-legal here as well. Indoor only. Blueberry is definitely a top strain to try if you're looking for tasty flavor. Not that big in yield on her own. Blue gelato sounds like a great option with flavor and yield.
Nickeluring
Nickeluringcommented5 years ago
@happytrees, I must regretfully admit I have never tried Blueberry, or any strain with Blueberry in it. I'm always on the lookout for tasty strains, but I haven't found a strain with Blueberry with the correct grow stats for me just yet. I got 3 Blueberry freebie seeds a little while ago, but after reviewing expected yield I thought they weren't worth growing. I'll pop those seeds once I have my own outdoor space instead. I'm lucky to live in a place where it's kind of almost semi-legal to grow a little bit - but not really. I could still get busted if not being careful. It seems like you're in a place that is a bit more sensitive...
happytrees
happytreescommented5 years ago
@Nickeluring, Dude! I had no idea that blue gelato 41 strain existed! That's exactly what I wanted to crossbreed. Thanks for bringing it to my attention! I haven't tried anything from Barney's Farm yet. Unfortunately, it is out of stock from my trusted source. Not sure if they will get it back in stock. I really need to get my hands on that. Blueberry is my #1 most favorite strain to vape. Phenos with sweet thick berry and diesel fumes are mouthwatering to me.

Congrats, nice looking buds. Just fyi root mass isn't really a good measure of root health and effectiveness. The swirly roots like you have in the pictures are not effective roots, you want to see a root ball that doesn't have any roots wrapping around the outside. The old mature roots that are swirled around the bottom and outside don't uptake water and nutrients. This is the reason for air pruning potting containers, they prevent roots from swirling by killing a roots growth and causing the root to branch out instead creating lots of root ends to uptake water and nutrients.

TheMachinistcommented5 years ago
@happytrees, I hear ya on not having the fabric pots. Your harvest looked very successful, I rid myself of those old axioms all the time. I'll keep an eye out for that next grow with the fabric pots, see how you like or dislike using them.
happytrees
happytreescommented5 years ago
@TheMachinist, Hey, thanks for the info. I always just grew on the old prospect of "bigger roots = bigger harvests" and it's something I always heard in passing from old timers, so I went with it. I do have a massive root ball wrapping all throughout the inner parts as well. You're not wrong about what you said, but there's also a good reason for the root mass being so dense like that on the sides and bottom. Because I didn't have a fabric pot to use at the time, I went with the bigger sized 15L auto pot and put a 2 inch layer of hydroton, air dome and air ring connected to an air pump. I didn't turn the air pump on until I rooted the entire pot. When the air went on, the roots grew out towards that source of air and focused growth all around the moist/aerated hydroton. This dense root growth is something I have little control over. In that situation, my best case scenario was to supplement air to avoid suffocating the roots. I also had to provide necessary enzymes to take care of dead roots and organic matter. I didn't notice any cons, as my ph levels and ppm levels were consistently in line, being monitored every day. Feeding less when I need to, feeding more, etc. You do raise up a lot of good points and if it's something that isn't monitored, it could be a major issue. I appreciate you looking out and bringing it to my attention. Root rot was something I experienced in the past and thanks to that experience, I try to do whatever I can to avoid it. Being limited to an enclosed, tight grow space is a bit of a drawback when things aren't in tune. To improve on this, my next grow will be in a fabric pot placed on a plant caddy elevated from any runoff, with a drip tray underneath. No need to supplement air this time.

Hi I’m growing a green gelato from RQS and I’m having big problems, it’s got bright green leaves pointing down, dry and has stopped growing. I have given her a biosys tea with plain ph water, can anyone help
Ashbash
Ashbashcommented5 years ago
@Frosty_Peaks, Ya man, if you could post more details it would be great. Sounds like under/over watering and /or a N deficiency.
happytrees
happytreescommented5 years ago
@Frosty_Peaks, need to know your grow conditions such as type of medium, what nutes you're using, ppm of your solution, ppm of your runoff, day/night temps and the age of the plant.

great plants, CO2 is the foundation of great yields, good work friend great harvest of big shoots.

happytreescommented5 years ago
@Nookandplant42o, Thank you! My co2 levels are ambient and high in the colder months. Taking advantage of it before window opening season. πŸ˜… CO2 is a great supplement in the right conditions. The microbiome is most important! Happy roots = big happy shoots!

She's been flowering for a long time. When do you think you'll harvest? She looks great! How's the smell? Mine smells so good I want to eat her...
happytrees
happytreescommented5 years ago
@Nickeluring, hey man, happy new year! Thanks for keeping up. I'll be chopping into week 18, which is in a few days. Just fading her leaves out a bit more. She smells incredible. Really strong and pungent. Almost pastry like sweetness at first, with citrus, pine and skunk tones bursting out after pinching a test spot. Really sticky between the fingers, like super glue. My last gelato seed sprouted today. I'll start her journal tomorrow. Now I'm shopping around for a faster flowering, indica dom with decent yields.

Oh lala - nice buds! She's growing tall!! How much taller can your tent handle?
happytrees
happytreescommented5 years ago
@Nickeluring, Thanks! I'm excited for what comes next. She stretched a lot! Way more than I expected. Luckily, stretching stopped around 5th week of flower. Any more and I would have been screwed. My tent is a little over 5' tall. For 4 weeks of veg, this is a pretty large plant, even after all that training I put her through. Next time I grow this strain or a similar hybrid, I was thinking of using a smaller pot.. With my usual indicas, I'm at half that height with lots of headroom between the lights. That sativa surprise is something else.. haha πŸ˜… I also feel like this strain/pheno is going to have an extended budding period than what I'm used to. Probably another 3 weeks or so until harvest, so maybe 15 weeks total from seed. Hopefully yours doesn't stretch as much as my pheno!

@Ashbash, Hey, thanks. She's really compact and bushy right now. Can't wait to see her stretch out for the scrog. Thinking I'll swap 12/12 around week 5.
