This is a three way grow in different mediums. All Gold Glue, one Coco, One Soil, and One DWC. This is the Soil Grow!
Week One - Nope. On day four after germination, a half shriveled, broken sprout came out of the Rapid Rooter it then fell over and died. That day I stuck another seed directly into a rooter and started another girl. We'll see what happens. As this girl was germed with a couple other Gold Glue Seeds that failed to pop, there may just plain be an issue with these seeds. Sixteen seeds germed, the only ones with problems are Gold Glue. We'll see.
Day 11 - Man, this grow can't get a break, but I'm documenting it until there's a grow here, come hell or high water. The second seed hadn't popped out of the dirt in seven days. I gently pulled the rapid rooter open to see if anything was going on. There was a sprout, she looks green, and her root was pointing upward (Upside down, the tip of the root was almost breaking the soil). Very thick root, no hairs. I VERY carefully turned her rightside up and put her back into the rooter. I'll give her two days and then if she hasn't responded, I'll start this grow over AGAIN. (Third attempt, Sad Face)
Day 14 - MAN! FFFFFFUUUUUU so yesterday morning she had a tiny bit of sprout sticking out of the Rapid Rooter, things were looking good. She was just about to jump up and spread out. This morning I go down to the grow, lift the humidity dome up, and she's MISSING. Like, the rooter is there, and she's NOT. Nobody else here but SO, but it looks like some sort of small asshole bug must have gotten under the dome and taken her away, because when I opened the rooter up, there was a tiny bit of taproot sitting in there, having grown some secondary strands. So she was there. I wasn't imagining it.
A mystery.
Anyway YET ANOTHER SEED. This time in rockwool, in the soil. Plugges with more rockwool. Let the thrid and a half time be the charm I guess.
Day 15 - Still waiting on this girl to pop up. Not much to say as we wait to see if this one is going to give me any joy. Starting to think that my Gold Glue seeds are a little bit off.
Day 19 - The girls are now starting to be bent under the net. Let the training begin!
Day 20 - Okay, tomorrow there will be a closeup! The forth? Time is the charm! She popped. Whew. Nightmare.
Day 21 - WE HAVE LEAVES! Okay, now we can get on to business with the grow. Been pretty stressed about the repeated failures with this strain but this is a positive sign. In retrospect I should probably have gone with a strain that I've grown before for the Triple Threat comparison, but that's alright, all three are in play now.
Day 22 - The problem child seems to be normal this time out! Steady on little Gold Glue. Decided to dust cinnamon over her medium to protect against some little black flies I've seen around. Also put up some pest sheets.
Day 28 - Technically it's really her day 7 from emergence, but we're counting the days of the grow rather than the days of this seed. She's past the fear point. Looks like she's gonna be fine.
Day 29 - Now we're cooking with gas! The dirt she was planted in is apparently infested with gnats, but the old cinnamon trick seems to have put that problem to rest. As the only soil grow, she's got the highest risk of trouble from those little jerks, but I think it's under control now. Sticky sheets are also in effect.
Day 35 - End of week five! She's just getting to that first big push of veg. Cinnamon applications seem to have done in the gnats. As the only soil girl I'm trying extra hard to keep her safe from pests. She seems to be thriving so we'll call it a win. The yellow sticky sheets have stopped filling up with buggers so I think the worst is over.
Day 36 - Beginning of week six! She's almost ready to train! Going to give her another day or so before tipping her over. Haven't seen any gnats for the last two days, but she's getting a dusting of cinnamon until the end of the grow no matter what just to be sure.
Day 42 - End of week six! Technically she's day 25 or so but we're going according to the count of days since the beginning of the grow.
Day 43 - Into week seven! The entire grow is passed all the smaller bumps in the road at this point, and everyone seems to be fairly robust. All girls are showing off sex and the vast majority are starting to go pom pom on me.
This soil girl is now into training and is looking good. She officially started getting a small dose of Maxigro during feeds last week.
Day 50 - Hey! We're on week eight! All the girls are doing well. The DWC girls asked for some special care over the last few days and got it. (Just a reservoir refresh) All of the rest and doing just peachy!
Day 57 - The Beginning of week nine! The girls have gotten a carpet bombing of treatments for a heretofore mild fungus gnat issue. I have ONE soil plant in the grow, and that seemed to have been the instigator of the issue. Mosquito Bits once a week and Neem Oil in their feed will hopefully knock them out fairly hard. The plants haven't shown any sort of signs of impaired growth so I'm pretty sure I've headed it off before any sort of real issue can evolve.
Week Ten! The grow is going well. The fungus gnats are nowhere to be seen apart from on some yellow sticky sheets, and every girl is flowering up nicely. Aggressive defoliation and dead leaf removal is happening on their underbellies every day now. Things are looking great!
Day 71 - Into Week Eleven! It looks like this grow is going to go a little longer than the previous two. The combination reason is that I've got the lights a little bit higher in this grow, and the overall temperature in the grow room is averaging fifteen degrees (F) lower than the last grow. It's much easier to keep my grow warm than it is to keep it cool, and the Spring/Summer grows ran upwards of 85f at points, for days at a time.
This grow has been sitting at a solid 72f the entire way through. As a result, humidity is better, growth is larger overall, and they're just gonna go a couple weeks longer than the last grow. A fair trade AFAIAC.
With this girl being about 14 days behind the others, it's hard to judge her progress by comparison, but one thing I can be pretty sure of, for overall growth and lushness, I can say without hesitation that coco and DWC are both superior to soil, for raw plant growth.
Day 78 - The grow is nearing the end! The Gold Glue DWC will be harvested this week, along with anyone else who looks ready. (I think it's just gonna be her, but her Coco sister is on the edge as well.)
Being two weeks behind the others has put this girl into a precarious position, growth wise. She's doing well and looking good, but she's proving to be a testament to the superiority of coco over soil, at least from an overall mass standpoint.
Day 85 - She's got maybe another week to go, due to being borneded two weeks behind the other girls. She's proven out to be a nice looking plant, and also a referendum on future soil grows. Soil just makes for smaller plants and this grow proves it out.
Day 90 - She's chopped! Soil is clearly inferior to coco or DWC, but she still delivered the goods at a respectable 2.9 ounces. One thing is for certain, however, this will be my last soil grow, due to the overall yield, and the fact that the soil in this plant was the primary cause of the fungus gnat battle I had to have this time out.
I tried those rapid rooter plugs "once" with no great success. It seems like the roots have a tough time growing through those rubber like plugs plus they hold too much water. I've had better success with regular seed starter mix with extra perlite and coco coir mixed in.👍
@Hexus, I hear you my FB Blackberry Kush grow was jinxed from the start always some small issue to deal with. Try to tear one of those plugs they're pretty tough. I think they would probably work good for rooting some cuttings why I don't know?
@Philindicus, Yeah I'm starting to regret using them this time. Only one plant has really had a problem but it's been a chronic problem. I think it's a meeting between not quite great seeds, a rarity with Meph, and the Rooters.
she looks really great. i feel even more high looking at the photo 😂 of course i can't taste but...... you should give a piece of this to a homeless person for charity! enjoy the beauties 🙏👌👽
