Still trying to create optimal environment by controlling temps. White widow looking a little ragged, will be monitoring its condition. Watered 3x/week
Got environment mostly dialed in thanks to an additional cool air intake fan, can get 450w mh nice and close for good penetration. Beginning the process of Lst, I’ve wrapped some plant straps around the base of each plant to anchor them, and straps at the top of their stems, giving them a slight bend. I’ll slowly increase the bend over time in order to avoid possible damage. The Gelato OG seems quite vigorous compared to the Widow so far. Starting to bump up nutes, runoff @400ppm -10/28
Hey all, these plants are bushing out like crazy. Going to switch to watering them daily, less and less runoff coming from my 3/week schedule and don’t want to risk buildup as I pass the 1 EC mark. Lst’d the 2-4 inch long branches popping up all over the Gelato (giving off a nice smell already), starting a nice canopy, and while the Widow is covering less surface area, she’s getting by fine besides some deformed leaves (?). All in all, growth is really starting to take off.
Gonna start defoliating this week, as well as probably ease up a little on the tying and let the plant gain some height with a level canopy, hopefully to around 8 inches. Will probably switch over to flower next week, aiming to get light and air hitting every inch of these plants after stretch.
Time for flowering, defoliated pretty heavily in preparation to leave them be throughout the stretch. Giving them 20 hours of darkness to kick things off, then keeping them 12-12 afterwards. There’s a few branches on the Widow lagging way under in height but there’s a decent even canopy on both of em otherwise.
Leaving town for 3 days wed-fri, so I had to leave the plants on their own, hopefully the hempy reservoir will do it’s job and feed these girls enough to keep em healthy until I’m back. Lowered the light wattage to 300 for this time to ensure a controlled environment and lower metabolism. I’ve begun to notice the lengthening of the pre-flowers, so been keeping plenty of airflow and light coverage.
Entering final week of major stretch, these plants have been a pleasure to grow so far, and my overall setup has been performing pretty flawlessly. Excited for the weeks to come, tho another longer trip away from the plants looms in the future (🎅🏻). Hopefully i can dial in a temporary auto watering system for then. Just did a light defoliation so i can leave them unmolested for the week - mainly took off leaves brushing against the forming pistils. These plants grow like weeds no doubt, branches out of branches out of branches. Temps and runoff a little high but overall a smooth start to the flowering stage i would say.
Waning off CaN to full Jack’s Part A for flowering nutes. Also have floralicious plus and UV bulbs on the way for the late flower. Bit of defoliation, no major problems to speak of overall. Probably will update with a video mid week. Cheers
Added some new nutrients for the bloom moving towards full swing, and have just about waned off the calcium nitrate. Frost covered leaves and fattening buds lay around every corner of these plants, and the smell is starting to become zesty with terpenes. Strangely my Gelato far outstretched my White Widow in the last week of the stretch, and now stands quite a bit taller, so while that’s something to hopefully account for in future grows, I’m not at all disappointed with the vigorousness of these plants.
Gonna be at least a week out of town for the holidays starting this Friday, so here’s hoping they continue to be stable. Cheers, these pics are starting to be a bit of eye candy.
Plants will be relying on the auto watering system for the week, hopefully they’ll at least stay healthy despite inoptimal water. Timer goes on for 80 seconds 3 times a day pumping nute solution from a 3 gal reservoir into 10 emitters, with 4 placed around each of the pots, as well as one in the center of each pot. Send my plants some positive vibes for the rough times, cheers and happy holidays.
Came back on New Years Day to be greeted by plentiful crystal laden flowers and incredibly nice terpene smell. Very glad they did well through the 12 day dry spell, now they can be watered good and well till harvest. One last minor defoliation, then I’ll stick to tying leaves out of the way. Also will begin incorporating the uvb bulbs for about 3 hrs on per light cycle, at about 12” distance from each plant. Cheers all
SideNote: I’ve just obtained a load of new seeds from about a dozen strains I chose for high levels of thc, yield, flavor, and overall quality genetics so expect some good things to come from my page within the next few months. Thanks for looking
The looks and smells are promising, with pistils beginning to turn amber. Hoping they’ll bulk up even more within another week or two, but I am not by any means unhappy with what I am observing in my grow space. Great smells - the Gelato has a thick silver sheen of crystals and the White Widow is looking super dense and likewise coated. Hope to start pumping in some chilly air to potentially enable a bit of color to come out as harvest approaches. Smooth sailing all, let’s finish this.
Probably looking at next week for a tentative flush and harvest. Some leaves starting to yellow from maturation, and pistils are getting to where they need to be, with some new white ones still being thrown up on both plants. The smell is strong and exquisite, pungent and sweet. Resin production also looks to be coming along nicely, covering leaves alongside frosty trichomes. Quite a few buds and whole branches have that snow covered look that can’t be beat. Won’t be able to hand water this week so leaving it to the auto waterer with reduced nute concentration. Cheers
The trichomes are getting cloudy, but the hairs especially on the Widow are still white and packing. Will be keeping an eye out over the week in anticipation of the chop, but have decided to slowly ease into the final flush until more signs of ripeness appear. Leaf degradation is progressing as expected and both plants are stunners as far as frost goes. The resin of both has a sweet fruity smell dipped in fuel. These plants have given me an enjoyable run, and I’m looking forward to seeing how they finish. cheers
Well they ain’t quite there yet so I’m hoping at least the widow will be ready for harvest after this week. Pistils seem to be significantly reddening and I’m starting to see some hints of color out of the gelato, so hoping for the best. Checking trichomes daily and using low ppms so the plants can use up their built up nutes. Also dimmed lights to 450w to give them a heads up to finish up. Cheers
5th day of cure review: Good for anytime of day and up to a few hours before bed. Lasting flavor of predominant sweetness, with a fruity undertone and hints of tropical tang. Will probably gain more of a fuelly pungency with time. Smoking a bowl you get an initial punch of Sativa that slowly settles into a nice balanced high, and it’s potent enough to satisfy. Good overall strain.
After cure review - This bud ended up with a flavor sweeter than the gelato surprisingly: a cherry sweet tarts tang that gives way to a strong balanced high that is functional yet dreamy in quality does make me feel that these are solid genetics. An easy smoke to be sure, and a great quality one.
chopped on feb 17 during dark cycle, pre-trimmed all unwanted leaves, hung dry 3 days in a closet with fan on low, trimmed for 2 days, brown bag layer-dried 3 days, then weighed out and stored in mason jars with 62% Boveda packs as it ended up over-drying to the low-mid 50s. For the gelato I’ll be tweaking this process. There’s a nice silver darkening on the cola tops, and all are absolutely coated in crystals. Enjoyed this grow, and I learned a lot of things over its course, including to not take breeder flowering estimates as reality. From square one, plan for at least an extra month past when you expect to chop, as many factors come into play that effect the ripening process, and it’s worth your while to wait for optimal ripeness. Cheers and thanks for following along, the Gelato harvest will be up soon.
Strong body and head high with psychedelic effects due to its high thc.
Effects may be intense for those with low tolerance. Ideal for a chill evening, slightly sedating but not an instant knock out. Buds have a nice flavor and look to them, more of an OG leaner as far as this plant’s profile. OG scent(stank) with tinges of Gelato(sweet), earthy characteristics and even tinges of herbs and pine. The Cola buds are wonderfully dense, crystalline and colorful, with side buds still proving potent. Good strain, the high is strong but it's a strain that grows on you.
This plant was a pleasure to grow, with cola buds dense and encrusted, and a problem free first grow. Seem to have gotten an OG dominant pheno with nice gelato hints of flavor and color; the citrus zest may or may not come out in the finished product, for me it is faint. Hope to grow this strain again in the future, definitely head-stash potential so my remaining steeds will be going in the vault. I let it hang dry a bit too long, but they’re currently a week into the cure at about 59% RH. My next grow will probably be the same set up, but improving on it with the experience I’ve gained through this process. I hit my 10 Oz total yield goal I’m pretty satisfied with my techniques and strain choice. Get this strain if you want an easy, high potency indica with impressive yields and good flavor. I’ll also be dry sifting the (tons of) sugar covered trim from both of the plants to press into resin, so I encourage y’all to take advantage of all that the plant provides. Cheers
That widow is a killer strain. I am getting ready to chop mine in a couple days. Pushing her an extra week made a huge difference. Good luck finishing them up
@MotherNaturesSon, right on...I was looking at the ThermoPro TP65A...got that stealth grow box, so was trying to make sure I could gauge the temp when i get setup...thanks
Hey did you actually do this whole grow with just flora plus rapid start and snow storm? any explanation on the thought process that led you to do that would be kind of nice aswell. great diary btw.
@Capoolyzooly, I do believe the UV increased overall resin production, but you have to be cautious to not damage the plants. I had them turn on for the middle 4 hours of the light cycle to mirror the midday solar peak you’d find outdoors.
If you’re considering UVB, just make sure the lights are over a foot away from the buds, and if you’ll be working with the plants while they’re on, wear polarized sunglasses to keep your eyes safe. Best of luck on your future grows!
@MotherNaturesSon, Ah i see, last question, how long were you using the reptisun UV's during each day, it seems like the uv bump really did something for you, cheers.
@Capoolyzooly, Hey thank you, my main nutrients aren't shown on the harvest pages because they’re not included in this site’s database, I guess. They are listed in earlier weeks, but generally my main ingredients were Jacks 321 and epsom salt, which together provide everything that the plants need. I believe that the bottled nutes shown did prove beneficial as additives though. Cheers
@MotherNaturesSon, Sound like some good ones. I'm going to be doing some slurricane, sugar cane, and apple sundae next. Always exciting to start up some new strains!
@Wicked_Stix Thanks man, not sure how I’ll be pairing them in the tent for their grows, but out of the new strains I have I’m most looking forward to these:
Dinafem - Blue Kush
Expert Seeds - Cali Orange
Advanced Seeds - Gorilla blue
Dr. underground - American Beauty
RQS - Purple Queen
Dutch Passion - Bubba Island Kush
@johnnyblatez Hey, supposedly colder nighttime temperatures (upper-50s) will help bring out colors in strains with that potential, especially purples. It mostly comes to genetics and being in late-flower with healthy plants tho.
As for why, I’m not entirely sure but I believe it’s related to the plant’s growth changing with the seasons. The strongest purples seem to come out in outdoor grows from what I’ve seen, where nights often get cold towards harvest.
As far as other effects, during flowering I figure that colder temperatures would signal the plant to mature and ripen towards its finish in other aspects as well.
Also, if the air is too cold too soon it could instead cause stress, where early purpling is a bad sign of deficiency among other problems
Thanks for having a look dog
My gelat og put on a crazy stretch compared to the widow also. Her nodes spaced perfect to put on huge colas though. Both strains have potential to put on amazing buds
