Oct 14th: First Grow/Grow Log - I'm going to consider this the first week of veg as two of the lemon skunk plants are behind in growth compared to the other two plants in the solo cups. This might be due to the seed starter mix being a better option than the peat pots or the plants not receiving adequate lighting, but I do like the peat pots for easy transfer.
I've noticed what looks like a slight mutation or odd growth on one of the lemon skunk seedling's adult leaves.
To germinate I simply soaked the seeds in tap water until I saw a taproot emerge and then transferred to soil/peat pots.
(Oct 14th - Oct 21st)
Update: Oct 19th - Slight nutrient burn on the tanned pot lemon skunk - will be only feeding pH water for the next feeding to flush our residual nutrients in the soil. All the other plants are responding well and happy.
Oct 21st - This comment will conclude my first grow week! I haven't gotten to flush any residual nutrients out of the nutrient-burned Lemon Shunk as the soil remains moist still. I will be feeding the red solo cup OG kush and Lemon Shunk for the last time until I do a transfer to their 5 gallon pots (transferring a couple of days after feeding).
Oct 23rd - This week is going well so far. I transplanted for the first time from the red solo cup to the other black pot for the OG Kush. She bounced back really quickly; less than 12 hours, so I'll take that as a win. I plan to wait a little longer the Lemon Skunk inside the other red solo cup as I found the roots in the first transplant to be underdeveloped. After transplanting the OG Kush, I gave ample water with the feeding of nutrients.
I have been able to stop the nutrient burn on the tanned pot Lemon Skunk and plan to give her one more flush of pH balanced water before I start to feed her again. I also did a small flush on the black pot Lemon Skunk and will introduce nutrients right away on the next feeding. I plan to up the doses of nutrients on the larger plants to their week 2 recommendations.
Oct 26th - Lots of changes! Extending the grow space required increased airflow, so the closest clip fan was brought to full speed and an additional clip fan was installed adjacent to the first clip fan. A 3000w led grow light was installed slightly higher than 24 inches (roughly 28 inches) to cover the 4ftx4ft space with an estimated PPFD of 1000. Growth seems fine. Slight deficiencies on the larger plants should be fixed with increased feed doses. Will continue to monitor. Tanned pot Lemon Shunk being treated with a 50% alcohol solution to treat benign saprophytic soil growth.
Should be transplanting the Lemon Shunk into her respected pot by the end of the week.
Oct 30th - Transplanted the Lemon Shunk from her red solo cup into her tanned pot. The transplant went well with no visible transplant shock. The small Lemon Skunk in the black pot seems to be of questionable health. The other Og Kush and Lemon skunk plants seem to be fine. Nutrients deficiencies have been rectified on the larger plants with increased feed doses. This update will conclude the 2nd week of veg. I'm hoping for bushier growth in week 3.
(Oct 23rd - Oct 30th)
Oct 31st - Week 3! All four plants look well. Not many changes so far. I'm really hoping for some bushier growth midway through the week.
Nov 1st - Snow outside today! I lowered my lights down to 24 inches from 29inches and spread the pots to the edges of the 4ftx4ft allotted space to avoid the high PAR/PPFD value expected to be in the middle(1500+) I'm hoping this should fix my rather slow progression in new growth since installing the new 3000w led light into my grow space. I wanted to start high and go slow with this new light. I only lowered the light as I did notice a significant decrease in the newer plant growth, but this did allow the plants to stretch out a bit.
Nov 3rd - Growth has increased since lowering the lights. No real changes. I bought some organocide as a more organic way of pest prevention. I'll be applying it as a foliar spray as soon as it's in.
Nov 4th - Stank coming through! Light whiffs of pleasant aromas are coming from the girls now! Woo! I do plan to low-stress-train, but I'm going to wait until all the plants are up to par with some of the bigger girls.
Nov 6th - Ending the week well. Started low 'low' stress training the plants with a bit of string to start exposing the lower growth. The pro-mix premium soil I started with is a bit hot. I didn't necessarily see that it has slow-release nutrients composed within it. I'm probably not going to change my feed schedule though at this point as burning is very minimal and plant growth is getting larger its just something I'll need to note for next time. I applied a 3 in 1(actually safer's brand) pest management and the plants didn't suffer any damage which is nice.
(Oct 31st - Nov 6th)
Nov 10th - The bimbinas are looking really healthy this week. A small explosion in growth at the beginning of this week and now these plants look way more mature. For the most recent watering, I only used pH balanced water to offset some residual nutrients that may still be present in the soil. If I had to say which week these plants are in... 2 large plants - Week 5, 2 small plants - Week 4. The low-stress training seems to be going alright...I'm making sure to be as light as possible when applying pressure and resistance with the string to avoid cuts or damage.
(Nov 6th - Nov 11th)
Nov 12th - The girls continue to do well.
The runty lemon skunk continues to persist with even more issues while ignoring any kind of corrections I have made. I had assumed that this plant might not make it as without the proper experience, I don't think my skill level will bring it back to health from whatever it's suffering from. I diagnosed the plants with a pH issue which led to a flush which led to saprophytic soil growth from oversaturations and lack of airflow in the grow space, so it seems like I might not be taking the right actions. This all originally stemmed from using the peat pots, so next time I will only be using the Pro-Mix Seed Starter mix or the Pro-Mix Premium Soil that the plants were ultimately transplanted too (when starting from seed or clone).
Nov 17th - The runty lemon skunk issues have been stymied. I removed her damaged leaves today. The other three girls are all working towards new growth at their nodes. This update will conclude week 5! Very excited for week 6!
(Nov 11th - Nov 18th)
Nov 19th - Low-stress training continues on. I started to LST with zip ties as they hold a little better than the string and eventually I will get some gardening wire. I did small defoliation ( a few of the bottom leaves) on all four of the plants. Pretty excited to be in week 6 I will be taking clones of the better plants in week 8 and probably starting a new diary.
Nov 20th - Small calcium deficiency on the OG Kush - Will increase the cal-mag dose to 3ml/l for the OG Kush. I imagine this is just due to their recent explosion in growth.
Nov 22nd - I decided to take clones early as I heard newer growth is preferred. 5 clones took from established mother OG Kush and Lemon Skunk. The other two Lemon Skunk were flipped into flower (day 2) 12/12 light cycle. This dairy will follow the two Lemon Skunks that are in flower until harvest and I'll start a new dairy for the clones once they have rooted.
(Nov 19th - Nov 26th)
Nov 29th - All is going pretty well. The calcium deficiency on the OG mother has been rectified however I do notice a bit of curling downwards on the tips of the leaves. I'll have to research that. The other two Lemon Skunks that are in flower are doing well and the runty one has popped pistols. 2/5 clones that were taken from the mother plant have rooted and I'll be starting a new journal soon probably once all the clones, I want, have rooted.
(Nov 27th - Dec 3rd)
Dec 12th - No news is good news. Same as last week, once I have clones of the mother lemon skunk and OG Kush ready I'll start a more ambitious journal! Been flushing every 3 feeds or so, won't be flushing probably until the final flush at harvest though.
(Dec 11th - Dec 18th)
Dec 23rd - Same as usual, more trichome development this week! Been rather busy, so haven't been able to post much. LST seems to be having a really good effect on the Lemon Skunk.
(Dec 19th - 26th)
Dec 28th - Week 5 Flowering - Heading towards my first harvest, but this isn't my first attempt. I'm pretty excited about being over the learning curve! Everything looks peachy! I'm going to start upping the feed(as per nutrient bottle schedule) before flushing out. :D
(Dec 26th - Jan 2nd)
Jan 5th - Getting pretty close to harvest now! The plant seems to be in excellent health. I didn't bother posting pictures of runty, but she is doing well.
I got some new quantum-like LED lights (Aponuo) as the led diodes were burning out on my other light(crappy unbranded led light).
(Jan 3rd - Jan 10th)
Jan 13th - Will have my first harvest within 2 weeks! The plant looks good and this is what I would aim for in terms of quality. These plants did not end up really exploding in growth, but as I have upgraded my light a couple of times now I'll see how the next grow goes.
Jan 17th - Excellent!
(Jan 11th - Jan 18th)
Jan 23rd - It seems so close to harvest time perhaps my light could be closer, but only time will tell. I had harvest runty and got maybe a handful of flowers for keeping it around. :)
(Jan 19th - Jan 26th)
I was able to harvest one of my lemon skunk plants for a half-ounce of really high-grade bud! I imagine with the other lemon skunk(mother to my clone grow) that I'm flowering that she will produce an ounce. So for my first time, I grew an ounce and half of high-quality bud! I also harvested my runty OG KUSH plant and got a quarter of some low-grade bud. Thank you for following along on my first grow. I wish I had more pictures towards the end, but I had been borrowing a camera and didn't always have access to it.
sorry if I am "teaching my granny to suck eggs" as the saying goes lol. just see a lot of potential great harvests go south due to drying too quickly and thinking jarring will bring taste and potency back. The flushing has always been an annoyance and seed sites who also now give "how it's " are also guilty of now perpetuating this myth further. The " industry" is also making a lot of money for flushing products !!!! Same gravy train as nute companies who add water to powdered nutes and charge crazy money for doing it when you can do better using the powdered nutes directly and need no other additional bloom/veg bullshit. It's all in the powdered nutes as the plants need it to be. Have a look into Mega crop. amazing nute and killing it all over the cannabis community . 1 part mix and so cheap. has everything from seedling to harvest and no salts to worry about building up in the medium too.
@Ganjagrandaddy,
Thanks for the comment Ganjagrandaddy! I've been looking into powdered nutrients actually and they look really appealing! I shall check out Mega Crop once I use up the bottled nutrients that I've bought!
looking good so far. have a good research into the myth of flushing . Low and slow drying all the way . Dont starve them when they still need feeding the most. her stores are for emergencies and will be better used during her slow death drying to convert sugars in the dark. 50%rh , nice cool 19°c , air exchanging but not blowing on the plants at all , pitch black to preserve those beautiful smelling terpenes, 10 days ideally before snappable stems and perfect dry. No harsh chlorophyll left in the leaves that ruin harvests, no weeks in a jar trying to rescue over dried weed , nice and clean white ash. Big commercial growers used to flush to save 2 weeks of nutes which saves a lot of money on their huge crops for a very small loss to them in yield. For the size of our grows this saving is minuscule but the loss to yield matters. Please read up on the real info and avoid " bro-science" for the win. The flushed plants displayed all over the site have me cringeing with all the leaves yellowed out and twisted up. madness being driven by bro-science. Dry it correctly and avoid a hay crop .lol
