I did a water change this week again to bring all my bins around 2000 ppm after nutrients for this week. They were all floating closer to 3000 ppm, and I figured that wasn't good since most of it was the nutrient from veg phase.
My goal with the water change is to get the plants to focus more on bud growth. I trimmed last week and the plant grew back a bunch of the leaves instead of focusing on fattening buds. I suppose that's what happens when you defoliate outdoors? Or it's just from the high veg nutrients it was still sitting in? Anyways that's my logic, so I did the water change.
I was pretty upset today checking on my plants, I think the gardener who just shows up to cut grass that our landlord pays for took a clipping from one plant. You'll notice in the pics that the plant which was growing in a big V shape is now missing a section. Looking at the place of cutting, and the straightness of the cut, I believe it was done on purpose, and not by an animal. I also saw no other damage to my plants. So that's frustrating. If someone wants some weed all they gotta do is ask, but to pick my bud when it's not even ready for harvest... Well, is what it is. Can't say for certain how it happened but now I've got less bud on my plant.
Shortest day of the year here is next weekend. My plants still look great, getting along nicely. I think it'll be another month before these are ready. Trichomes are visible on all now.
@KratkyGrow, good observation. I'll keep this in mind next time that I'll pop seeds. Was actually thinking about starting the new lot in one set and pick survivors for individual nursing.
Again, good to know. Thanks for sharing.
@Med_in_Tropic,
I know! That was pretty disappointing.
In that batch I don't think I had any stressor conditions that would have made them more likely to be males. (I've read that red light, high heat, fluxing heat, or nutrient overload can all lead to higher rates of males)
I did plant them all out of one tote bin, so the roots got all tangled, not sure if that would do anything or not. But that did help me learn when 7 of the 8 get pulled, and the roots are too tangled to seperate, they just rotted in the bin and created extra worry on my end for the one female. I also think the female developed slowest, and was the smallest plant, maybe because her roots were getting choked out by the males. I wouldn't try planting more than one in a single tote again unless I knew they were all females.
Low vpd - humid low temp - There will be less transpiration. I agree with you that more leaves are better for the plants . Then the can pump more water and nutrients to grow.
