I’m growing Purple Queen from Royal Queen Seeds, Citradelic Sunset & Zweet Inzanity from Ethos Genetics, and King Kong From Big Buddha Seeds. Germination happened within 24hrs on all but the Zweet Inzanity which took almost 48hrs and I planted the seeds straight into their pots. I’m using Redbud living soil with Cannaseur seed blend (Amazon find) which includes 13 different types of seeds for cover crops. Straw is being used as a top dressing/mulch. I’m growing under two Spectrum King 602GH LED lights. I have a 55gal reservoir with 2 adjustable drip emitters in each pot.
I would not consider my living soil as perfect for planting at this point but I was eager to get started. I planted my seeds before fully establishing my cover crops. I have added red wigglers and nematodes. I breakdown some of this process in the video.
All four plants seems to be showing signs of stress. Possibly overwatering from my initial soil drench. Also seeing some blistering on the leaves. Nothing I’m surprised by at this point. Added a few things to their watering this week. Cover crops are just starting to push up the straw. Need to make a few adjustments to keep things on track. Topped all four plants this week.
Still seeing signs of stress this week. Which makes me think the soil is still not 100% ready. Thankfully no major signs of nutrient deficiency. I do believe they are experiencing some light stress and possibly some uptake issues. I also think they are still experiencing some overwatering. Really had to saturate it the first few weeks to help set everything up. Cover crops are really taking off though. Pretty certain the soil just needs some more time.
Nothing new this week as far as stress other than fimming. Really dense growth happening in all but the zweet inzanity. Stalks are all getting thick and leaves are getting big. Really impressed so far.
Had a panic attack this week!!! Found some little fast moving crawlers on my mulch. Most were on the leaves I had trimmed off during defoliation. I come to find out they are a type of mite that eat the decaying foliage and were likely already within the soil itself. Luckily no problem at all. Lots of new growth and they all seemed to respond well to the little LST and HST I’ve used (topping and fimming). Almost daily I come in and press the tops out or down to help spread the canopy before trellising. The purple queen is truly the most impressive lady in the garden at this point. The Citradelic Sunset is a close second. Both plants are expressing 11 finger fan leaves and have very thick branches. I’ve had to raise my lights to 60” and everything has responded very well. They received about 4 cups each of compost tea this week. I backed off my watering schedule to help with the soil saturation.
Pretty uneventful week. Plants are looking healthy. Slowly defoliating and cutting back cover crops. You can see in the pictures how well the lst is working on spreading my canopy. I’m done with any HST methods. The Zweet Inzanity is a more spindly plant compared to the others and the King Kong is very short and has experienced very little stretching at any point.
