Continuing to use nutrients from 9 days ago. Mostly added back water to the tank to reduce the EC, as it was too high in my opinion. Going to try and milk another week out of the nutrients in the tank at the moment, as there are no obvious signs of deficiencies to note.
As you can see, I have opted not to defoliate at all for this grow. So far I have only cut off two leaves just so I can get to my filler cap easily.
I am doing a little supercropping here and there to level up the canopy.
In just over a week they have grown from 51 cm to 93 cm. So a good 80% increase in height. An average of 2 inches of growth per day.
If they grow similarly to my last crop, they should have just under 2 weeks stretching left to do.
Happy new year!
@NuggetPawn, thanks for the info! so I'm assuming you actually don't take the tank out of the grow space but using the pump to get water in/out. And ofcourse, I always assumed keeping the water temp would be easy in colder European countries but with the tank being inside the tent it would heat up from the light and environment around. Your results are well worth the effort in my eyes - something for another year :)
@HazeyBobby, it all depends really, itโs hard to explain but I have a submersible pump in there that sends water to my cooler, and then as it comes back around I have a T connector with 2 taps on it. So to drain, I turn the tap off that goes back into the reservoir and turn the other one on, which is attached to a hose which I then put in my waste pipe. If you arenโt close to water waste pipe, itโs pretty easy to empty into 5 gal bucket and just walk the waste water to the nearest sink a couple times. Biggest issue with DWC is all the ancillary equipment like coolers etc cost a lot โน๏ธ
@NuggetPawn, what is the maintenance aspect of this system like? what happens to the plants when I assume you have to take the bucket away to clean or refill?
Killer buds, hot damn man๐. Definitely need yoyos to carry that crazy weight.
Great work and good luck with them this week. Cheers and happy grows๐
@NuggetPawn, Heck ya man, looks like we're on damn near the same schedule๐. I'm excited for both of us, haha. Great smoke on the horizon, my friend๐
Hey Nugget! Thanks for commenting on my grow question. Luckily just before your comment I had stumbled upon cocoforcannibis and did a ton of reading! Learned a lot this wk and discovered I was feeding my plants incorrectly resulting in salt build up in the root zone. I flushed the plants and amended my practices and all seems to be getting better. Cheers and I'll follow your grows.. Probably learn a bunch.
@TonyTrichomes, thatโs good news mate, glad you found it, when ever I have an issue I donโt go anywhere else these days ๐คgood luck with the rest of your grow! See you on CFC
@stunflower, LOL it is a late night here and you've made me realise I sounded really whiney... lol I blame it on lack of sleep :P
Thanks for the kind comment Stun :)
Hi, what has been your observation on the difference between this grow and your first related to defoliation?
I did heavy defoliation in this crop for the first time and would definitely want to not defoliate on the next (as a similar test you have done).
@NuggetPawn, that's great feedback. I'll definitely give it a go (to not defoliate) on the next grow. I noticed the plants spent more time making new leaves than producing flowers after defoliation but my experience is very limited at this stage. Keep up the great work on this diary.
@HazeyBobby, I would say its a strong possibility it has given me more yield - I am running the exact same lights and nutrient regime and DWC tank. Only difference is the space of my room. But I guess there are too many variables I have added to confidently pin it to one thing.
I think I will get at least 50% more yield from this grow, and the colas are 500% better quality and no where near as leafy. I do wonder if defoliation forces the plant to make leafier buds. But I don't know for sure.
To me, not defoliating is a win win, more yield (science backed fact) and the second best reason... less work and more time to stare :P
Great, Strawberry Lemonade seems a great producer of quality buds!! How would describe the smell and taste? Doesn't smell strawberry? On your last grow you mentioned more lemony, piney, earthy and skunky?
@L3G4CY87, Hey man, if you smoke it in a vaporiser, you can taste the strawberry profile - I don't have one, but I tried some of it in one of my mates kits. In a normal blunt/bong, its more lemon and pine tasting :)
@oldtimer6455, thank you for your nice comments! This is the video I watched, he will do a much better job of explaining than I can. I did make a couple amendments to these instructions though, I placed a couple chunks in with trim and left it for 5 mins, I then only shook for 30 seconds before tipping upside down through bubble bag. I have a theory that the less shakes before extraction, the less leaf particulate will be in the hash. Link below, enjoy ๐ https://youtu.be/Pkw1nkZqG9I
funny to come across this diary here ... I was just reading through your awesome grow on CocoforCannabis :)
Just brilliant buds - that's how I wanted my plant to look like ... I'm on week 8 of flower and my buds are tiny in comparison - beautiful plant/strain!!! can't wait for the next one. Good read on your diary - thanks.
@HazeyBobby, thank you ๐ they are pretty big but itโs more luck than judgement on my part - your buds look fine to me, you just have more of them so the weight is spread more in my opinion, where as my colas are quite far apart ๐
