White Widow Experiment

Hello Everyone! A friend of mine has a room full of White Widow females grown from clones, and being his first grow they have grown bigger than he anticipated. The best part of this problem is that he had a plant to give away, which is just beginning to flower. Coincidentally my two Pineapple Express plants I have going right now (check my other current diary) are smaller than I hoped when they begun to flower, so there was just the spot to place her in and see what comes. Evaluating the condition of this plant as it has come into my hands leads me to believe that it has not received the optimal amount of light it could have, and her stems are long and spindly with massive internodal spacing compared to my other girls. She seems to even have trouble supporting the weight of some of her fan leaves! After being placed near my small fan for 48 hours I already notice a slight difference, and am hoping that this characteristic isn't going to lead to a lacklustre flowering and yield. Anything that comes is really a freebie for me and so, let's see what happens! I am keeping her on veg nutrients for the first week to encourage root growth (I repotted when I received her) and to hopefully beef up her structure.

She's another week into flowering and looking good. The airflow seems to be helping her thicken up her branches, and I am noticing the flowers developing a little. Not too hopeful on what will eventuate but anything is good I guess. She has a high level of trichrome development for this stage, which could lead to something great if she keeps it up. That's where the white widow name comes from though right. Compared to the Pineapple I have going the genetics just seem so inferior, with long spindly growth and not many budsites. I am continuing to include a few vegetative nutrients in her waterings to see if I can encourage any more size before all efforts turn to flowering, but other than waterings she is very low maintenance and there's no need to be trimming leaves or anything like that at this stage.

Not too much to report on this girl; she doesn't have enough leaves to do any trimming, her structure is leggy enough that nothing needs to be bent or manipulated, she's developing slowly but steadily. She stays true to what you'd expect from a 'white' strain with significant trichrome growth already. Doesn't drink as much as her tent buddies, the Pineapple Express. It definitely seems a safe projection to expect potent weed, the only tradeoff being not much of it. I love her all the same but she isn't the most fun to document because she never looks too visibly different.

The best thing about having low expectations has to be seeing them surpassed :) This girl is packing on more bud size than I anticipated for her spindly branch structure. Her buds are like gleaming jewels and a nice mellow smell lingers on the fingers when I handle her gently. Excited to see to what degree these buds will swell and grow. Trouble free and no changes to watering or nutrients to report this week

I got this girl when my other plants were flowering, so she didn't have a chance to get bigger before she budded. When I pulled her her roots were alot smaller than anticipated, but from my initially low expectations i could really see why this strain is a household name. I would say she even outdid Pineapple Express in trichrome production which I never expected, what a pleasant surprise! I appreciate gaining experience with new strains and I hope this one crosses my path again.
