My first indoor grow, finally! Still working on a ventilation solution, and I don't really have much in the way of humidity control but I'm not too worried; my lights are cold to the touch for now and I'll toss a few 2L coke bottles over the seedlings for the first few days to keep some humidity on them.
2 pots contain 2:1 Stepwell Supersoil and perlite, 2 pots contain 1:1:1 Happy Frog, Ocean Forest and perlite. 2x 320W Kingbrite LM301H quantum boards @ 3500K (no rspec) in a cheapo Vivosun 4x4 tent. Keeping it organic so only BioThrive once I'm moving into flower in terms of nutrients. Feeding room temperature distilled water for now.
Seeds went into paper towels on November 27th; it took about 2 days for them to germinate and another two to poke up above the soil so I will count December 1st as Day 1 of this grow to keep things nice and simple. My only prior grow is a single balcony bagseed I ran this past season so any comments or advice is more than welcome. Stay tuned for (hopefully) some good updates!
Focused this week on staying on top of temps and humidity. Managed to keep humidity right around 70% all week, temperature hovered around 25 but did get a little hot when I first lowered the lights.
Was definitely feeling good coming into this week, two of the seedlings were looking a bit rough to start but were managing to get established and the other two appeared to be doing well.
Start of week 3 and everything is progressing well. Not sure if the plants are growing quite as vigorously as they should be but all appear to be healthy and growing well enough. Bringing the humidity down just a bit, keeping it around 60-65% as best I can, but I really need to pick up a proper de/humidifier soon. I didn't expect so much fluctuation just from watering, even with the tent completely open to the surrounding room.
Oof. Last week was rough. The two plants in FoxFarm look burned to shit, I think the soil is maybe just a bit too rich for such small plants? They're in identical conditions to the two plants in Stepwell and those are looking great now. Lesson learned, but my next grow is definitely going to be a conventional feminized strain, these autos are really unforgiving.
First preflowers are starting to pop this week and two plants are essentially a write-off, I don't think I'll have time to get them recouperated at all before they start trying to produce buds. One of the two remaining could be a bit more vigorous but I'm hesitant to start nutrients yet as even it looks like it might have a bit of excess, and it's corners are starting to curl a bit so again the lights were raised and they're in baby-mode for a few days.
Alright, decent week. Growth felt a bit lackluster last week but is now starting to pick up. Even the two plants in FF soil are looking good (albeit small) again and should produce a few decent nugs.
My new fan arrived and has been great at helping keep temps down. It's just venting into the room for now, but it's open to the rest of my condo so it has been able to easily maintain 25C at only 50% power. Definitely much less noise and wattage than the previous Vivosun fan I had.
I've applied a bit of BioThrive twice now - first feeding at 1/4 strength, followed by only water, then another feeding at a little under 1/2 strength.. I'm not sure it's really needed, these plants are in 5gal containers of pretty nice quality supersoil. I'll keep a close eye on them and only increase the amount if I really feel it's necessary.
Old fans yellowing between veins and at margins, new growth almost lime green. Very sparse nutes (only twice to date), ~6.9PH, max 26C air temp, 5wk autos in Stepwell supersoil. P excess? Does Ca def affect whole plant or only old growth? See last pics week 5. TIA!

Do you sometimes water on the leafs?
It just looks like burn marks from water staying still on the leafs when giving water?
Otherwise it can be chelated nutes in your soil.
Maybe a flush here would do the trick.
Give 2 times flush water. And the third time give a little bit of nutes again.

Not many pics this week, I tore my rotator cuff and spent most of it sleeping. The two stunted plants have begun to recover, I feared it was too late, and figured if I get an eighth per plant then super. Little did I know..
It became pretty apparent this week that I've got more than one pheno going here. Colours are starting to pop (thanks, Canadian winter) & expectation rising! Burned plants continue to recover well, nutrient levels bumped up to recommended max, plants seem to be responding pretty well. Also followed advice in previous threads, dropped PH overall and began to vary the levels a bit.
Definitely two phenos here among the two strongest plants. One plant smells fruity (and fucking delicious) and the other has a pungent ammonia odour (though not unpleasant.)
Anticipating harvest soon!
Dislike the fact that this product is marketed as Pineapple Express - I didn't get what I paid for, and honestly this plant deserves it's own acclaim. I may not be a cannabis cup bud tester but this is great stuff in it's own right and shouldn't need to be piggybacked off of a legendary name to be grown. Very happy with the end product; smells and tastes great, smokes smooth, looks awesome.
This is my first indoor grow; I had some issues but the plants rebounded well, and my grow space makes pests and disease pretty unlikely. Neutral/Normal marks from me as I don't really have much experience to compare the grow to.
Pheno 1 - Plump buds, lots of orange hairs. Strong fruity/citrus odour on the branch and during the trim, mellowing out to the expected tropical fruit smell while drying. Best bud I've ever smelled, tbh, but I suspect it's more due to the fact that I've never had fresh, organic cannabis before. Possibly left a little too long as it puts me to sleep pretty reliably, I think there is too much CBN. Yielded well, looks great, smokes nice and smooth after a brief dry and cure.
Pheno 2 - Long, slim buds, fewer hairs. Puts me on my ass. Strong ammonia odour during flower (zero mold/mildew present) but not unpleasant. Notes of diesel after the chop, but after curing for a bit the closest thing I can think of is the smell of a fresh bar of clay.. It's a little earthy, a little herb-y, a little woody (tee-hee.) The flavour is difficult to describe (I've never been good with this, even when it comes to food) but I have had plenty of weed that tasted like it before and it always hits me like a truck, this stuff is no exception. I expected a mediocre but potent yield from this plant and am *very* satisfied with the results.
I'm still really just getting into the buds, so I don't think it's appropriate to be listing any positive or negative effects yet. I have two more plants to harvest, and another grow already in the works, so I'll be sure to update this journal in the future with more pics and my opinions after burning my way through a few ounces of this strain. So far, though, so good!
Final update - Got a bit better yield from the second two plants, harvested about 2 weeks later. Really digging this strain, pleased with my choice for first grow.
Thanks for the comments! I'm smacking myself in the head right now, I had it in my head that you wanted a PH level around 7.0 but after re-reading it looks like 6-7 is the right range. I'll be sure to keep the PH lower going forward. I'll pick up some CalMag in a bit if needed but there should still be plenty of goodness left in the soil.

Hey, you're a first time grower? Me too, and I agree with your opinion on autoflowers. I have some similar issues and also found my strain to be supersensitive to almost everything.
Its often said that AFs are perfect for beginners, but only the faster harvast stands out as a positive for me. AFs are like little time bombs and if you make mistakes during veg, it will cost you yield. And as a beginner, I will make mistakes. A lot probably. With photo's I'd just continue to veg, untill all is good. During that veg time you'll get some experience and get an idea of what it is to grow cannabis and what the plants can tolerate. With AFs, every mistake counts hard. That, and their delicate character makes it harder to grow AFs than photo's as a beginner, imo.
Ok, you dont have to worry about lightleaks and -schedule with AFs; but seriously, if you dont have the ability to do an easy task such as lightproofing or switching from 18/6 or so to 12/12 than how would you be able to grow any plant indoor?
Anyway, just wanted to share my opinion.

Do you measure runoff ph? Does it differ a lot from what goes in?
I'm pretty sure its not a Ca deficiency, its usually the growth closest to the lights that will show Ca def.
