Planted seed directly into final pots in early June, 10L smart pots, 400W Mars Hydro II, Coco coir, Canna Coco A + B nutrients but not feeding any nutes for a while yet. No signs of life yet.
Both seedlings have sprouted!
First time grower here, had a LOT of germination issues which I wasn't expecting, so here we are after popping my 7th and 8th seeds it seems like we might be on to a winner finally! Started out wanting to do autos, but after ruining my seeds I only have fem's left!
I'm running a brand new indoor setup, my first ever, decided to get a 40x40x140cm tent (smallest available?) as only have a very limited space grow area, got myself a mars hydro II 400w which almost completely fills the tent haha! 4inch carbon extraction system, 10L fabric smart pots, CANNA coco nutrients, I've also thrown in a hydrometer and a mini humidifier as a make shift way to control the environment.
I was originally only putting one seed in that tent as I would think that is all I could fit, but ended up doing 2 seeds just to see what happens.
Any questions or tips feel free to comment! Looking forward to getting to know you guys!
Hey guys little bit of an update, went away for a week so had to leave plants in the care of a family member but I fully saturated the pot before I went and only just about needs watering now I'd say.
This is the plants when I returned home 2 days ago.
The purple queen is looking pretty healthy so no worries there, I wonder if its growing slower than it should or maybe I'm just being impatient.
The northern lights hasn't developed as well, but not sure if this is normal or not. The leaves don't look as healthy green and it has developed some small black/dark brown spots on the first jagged leaves.
Should I be worried? I haven't added any nutrients yet or watered them either. Do you think a I should start watering at half strength nutrients or would you say they are a bit too young still?
Decided to start watering at 50% nute strength. Not using a feeding chart, just going by what it says on the bottle. For my 5L water container I will be putting 10ml each of A and B nutrients.
I FIM'd them a few days ago and seem to be recovering well, I think that was probably a mistake in such a narrow and tall tent but theres no going back now!
I'm only having to water them around once a week as they are in such large pots, but over-watering doesn't seem to be much of an issue in these pots with coco coir. I watered them last week at half strength nutrients and this week three quarter strength. I'm not sure what to do when they reach the walls of the tent, is it best to trim those leaves / remove them or do you just leave it?
Cheers
Time for another update, these two have really progressed in the past week or so, really bushing out a lot more now.
Its week 6ish depending on how you count it, from the day it sprouted or day I planted the seed? Not sure when it germinated as it was below ground!
I started LSTing them both partly to encourage them to fill out the tent a bit more but also just for fun and to experiment a little as it's my first ever grow.
The only thing that concerns me is the node spacing is very very short.
Is this a problem? Genetics? Light too powerful? I only have it on veg mode at the moment.
Have a look and see what you think.
Other than that everything's going well, they are looking healthy and are drinking a lot more now, watering multiple times a week.
Just broke my PH pen, doh! Another one is on the way, I just hope I dont need to ph my water again before it arrives!
peace
Still filling out in veg, getting to around the beginning of week 7 now since sprouting, thinking about flipping the cycle soon. Responding well to LSTing and I've got loads of tops since FIMing. Not sure if they still need to fill out a bit more or if I should just flip it now with it being such a small tent.
Starting to get a bit cramped in there now, can no longer see the pots and I can hardly tell where one plant ends and the next one begins!
Is it time to flip to flower?
I'll flip them to a 12/12 cycle tomorrow, and will defoliate the lower leaves, I won't take off too much as don't want to go overboard. I'll see how they recover and then look at possibly defoliating / lollipoping further.
I've now defoliated the lower leaves to open the stems up and provide them with better airflow under the cannopy.
Sorry about poor pics I'll try and get some better pictures when I can.
I've continued with the LSTing to spread out the branches and provide more light to each I individual bud site.
Going to be away from the country so needed to find a way to keep these girls alive.
I got a cheap 25 quid automatic watering system from amazon and set it up with little drippers going into the coco. This seemed a bit slow when testing and didnt give them that much water. Just around 400ml between both of them.
I decided to also set up some jars of water with string going from them to the coco as an osmosis based backup in case the dripper system failed. I then fully saturated the pots before I went and hoped for the best! (Pics from 18th August)
Well into flowering now, can see some bud sites forming, exciting times!
I've just defoliated further under the canopy and will add pictures of that to this week also. (Pics from 21st August)
Upon my return from 2 week holiday abroad I found that the plants were looking great, they've stretched towards the light a noticeable amount and some of the buds are really coming along now.
The watering system seems to have worked to a point. Both plants were in need of a good watering when I got back but after feeding them they seem pretty happy!
Noticed some white spots have developed overnight on one of the popcorn bud stems from lower down on the northern light plant. What do you guys think? Is it something to worry about? Hopefully not powdery mildew, doesn't seem powdery they are like white thin areas of leaf.
Should I just remove this stem? Don't want it to spread if it's some kind of fungus!
Only around a week to go till harvest I reckon.
Lovely tasting strain, very sweet and that classic Northern lights aroma. Smoked really well, all white ash and the flavours are amazing! Good high, quite indica leaning and nice on a night time. Would love to grow again in the future!
This was a good harvest in terms of quality and teprines, but I was a little disappointed with the final dry weight. After drying for 5 days the buds were only around half the size they started at so was a bit of a shock with it being my first ever grow. Decent results though for a noobie in my opinion, now on to the next strain!
Very nice strain, a bit too earthy and piney tasting for me personally, but I had great reviews from friends praising it for it's great taste. Very heavy hitting indica and gives a nice couch-lock effect!
Had to harvest slightly earlier than I would have liked due to a few bananas popping out of the female flowers on this Purple Queen strain. That's a little disappointing but still very happy with the results. Got an okay weight for my first grow and I'm happy with that! :)
