Another new one ... Trainwreck! Many distributors have this strain, but I’ll say some form of it was always one of my favourites purchased from a local dispensary. This version is actually by Native Seed Co. which is not listed on GrowDiaries. The genetics are Mexican x Thai x Afghani, and the flowering projected as 9 weeks. Despite all my recent failings I am looking ahead and not back. Watch me fail! Ready?
This seedling was germinated in a peat pod in a small pot of HP Promix, Myke Herbs and Vegetables, and a bit of worm castings. I’ll list the medium as soil when I transplant to amendment.
My light is just a cheap full spectrum LED with 1/6th of that again in a custom 3D printed pod and casing.
Day 11 for Trainwreck! Nothing going on other than establishing itself. I don’t have ideal temperature or humidity conditions in a cold, leaky basement. End stop.
Get me to the less vulnerable stage and I will rock this!
Day 18 here for TrainWreck. Yes, its bad. Clear underdevelopment, and pH problems. Nute problems, whatever. All on account of the basement temperature dips and just untrue core temps. Yesterday I diverted my basement furnace output directly into the veg. tent and installed a thermostat. I can already see a difference despite the haggard appearance. I’m still dialing it in but at least now the temps are consistent and warm. Hopefully its not too late.
Day 25 for Trainwreck. Still struggling, as the turn around wasn’t instant. And I overwatered a bit worrying about humidity as my furnace provided consistent heat for the first time. But, its perky, which is a positive change, and it appears to have grown slightly. If its permanently stunted I’ll have to make the call soon. Please, come on! 🙏🏻
Day 31 from seed for Trainwreck. If you just dropped in, go back and read the struggles, and here we are. For those following along this week was positive despite the immediate photos ... but overall I am nearly at the end of patience. Maybe it will bounce back, but the time and energy devoted to it may not be worth it. It may be time to regroup...
After the heat was solved I was seeing progress but overwatered as described. I withheld water all week, about six days, and the seedling was perky and happy and as you can see regained some green. I did have to water because it did dry out completely, and so its a bit drooped as it was recent. Photos reveal it is more green though. But no regularly sized leaves.
Day 38 from seed for Trainwreck. I am totally blown away ... this thing is still alive? And recovering? Like a runaway freight train? Surprising. I was seriously ready to move on. Well now I have to see where this leads! Overwatering and underwatering looks the same and so I was doing one of the two. Then I fed a very, very dilute mix of 18-18-21 Miracle Grow Tomato food with a bit of blackstrap molasses, and it responded. Then later, a less dilute, but more dilute than normal, mix of 24-8-16 Miracle Grow All Purpose plant food with blackstrap molasses, and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag). And voila!
Day 45 from seed for Trainwreck. Things are rolling along and Trainwreck is looking better and better. Again, the comeback honestly surprises me. I wanted to assess the condition of roots and growth so I transplanted this week to a slightly larger container. It is also growing well enough I moved it amongst the larger plants. My soil mix was primarily: 10 parts HP Pro Mix: 5 parts worm castings: 1 part Fox Farms Happy Frog soil, and Myke Herbs and Vegetables mycorrhizae. Just water.
Day 52 from seed for Trainwreck. Since the transplant this thing has been stretching and growing. Rotating it around and putting it amongst the bigger plants has kept it stretching. I ended up doing some LST after height measurements (reflected in pictures). Wasn’t the plan, but it hasn’t filled the pot and is sort of lanky. Just water.
Day 59 from seed for Trainwreck. Now that things have been moving steadily along, and I have performed LST, its been a matter of trimming as the plant responds. Just amongst a massive sea of green, I am in no rush. I have actually acquired a Trainwreck clone as a gift. Same distributor, different seed/different mother. Just water for Trainwreck.
Day 66 from seed for Trainwreck. Not a good week, not a great update. I really had temperature problems this week, especially for those plants near the floor. You can see a bit of wilt, and purple streaking on the branches. It is especially noticable where it starts, when it was put on the (not indirectly) on the floor and got cold. The temperatures outside in my region have been inconsistent. On warm days, this actually causes my tent to run cooler as my upstairs never triggers my furnace. It is now spindly and thin. I will look to rotate plants this week to get some relief, and for Trainwreck if I don’t move it within the tent, I will for sure be transplanting later today.
Day 73 from seed for Trainwreck. Its feeling a bit overnuted with the soil amendment. It may also be feeling effects of temperature. All in all, its not majorly struggling, but its not out of control. I have moved a large plant out and so temperature circulation has been better in the tent. I have only given water and will continue to monitor the colour of the leaves and the purple stems. Just hang in there, still a long way too go ...
My soil amendment for the bottom of the transplant was 30 HP Pro Mix: 5 Fox Farms Happy Frog: 5 worm castings: 2 ASB Greenworld Sheep Manure Compost: 2 ASB Greenworld Black Earth: 2 ETI Greenhouse Gold Seafood Compost: 1 Blood and Bonemeal pellets: 1 Green Gaia mineralized phosphate (guano): 1 alfalfa meal compost: 1 pulverized egg shells.
Day 80 from seed for Trainwreck. Since the repot things have gone well. It has had to sort out the hot soil, and get used to the new soil amendment, but right now it one of the more green in my veg. tent. Some discolouration from nutes is getting replaced by green. The first group shot is pre-defoliation this week, the latter group shots afterwards. Just water and steady as she goes. I will try to clone and jam into the flower tent whenever I can. I do already have a Trainwreck clone on the go, from a different seed.
Day 87 from seed for Trainwreck. Boy howdy is it hitting and using up amendment. Good thing it has time to veg. because it is dark, dark green. I’m obviously just giving water, and I will be liberal moving forward. I’m mixing medium sized plants with sea of green style at the same time, Trainwreck is on the backburner for a mid range sized plant. Careful moving forward and expect lots of defoliation.
Day 94 from seed for Trainwreck. This thing is loaded with nitrogen. The soil amendment is clearly heavy. I’m only giving it water and I’ll admit I’m actually being disciplined with irrigation schedule (which is rare). And adjacent FFT1 plant yielded some pests so I gave this one a blast of moonshine to ensure nothing going on. We will see how much leaf damage as a result. I need to get the amendment way down before I even think of flowering. I topped earlier in the week. Springtime is approaching, temperatures are way up. Having smaller plants helps too as my fan is set to a higher setting, and the air is circulating better.
Day 101 from seed for Trainwreck. Using up soil amendment and backing off of excess. I have only given water. I’m hoping to see a little leaf fade this week. Lots of potential clones in the undercanopy which I took after photos. No changes.
Day 105 from seed for Trainwreck. The time has come to flower this one, thus an early update. I’ve taken plenty of clones, defoliated, nothing left to do! I’ll continue with water through stretch then flowering food. Do not be deceived, the group shot is the new flowering home, not my veg. tent.
Day 112 from seed for Trainwreck. One week of flowering complete, eight weeks to go. Everything is looking good. Stretch is underway. Just water and making sure its not overloaded on amendment.
My flowering lighting is two 300 actual watt LEDs, with 96 watts of yellow LEDs supplementing that spectrum.
Day 119 from seed for Trainwreck. Two weeks flowering complete, seven weeks to go. Buds are starting to form, hopefully green/soil amendment will fade over time. I’ve only given water. I will likely start into flowering food this week. Lots of healthy leaves.
Day 126 from seed for Trainwreck. Three weeks of flowering complete, six weeks to go. Everything is cooking. Tight little buds everywhere. Nice, healthy green. This is a nice change for me! Most recent was 0-10-10 Alaska Morbloom, with a popsicle stick dip of blackstrap molasses, and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag).
Day 133 from seed for Trainwreck. Four weeks of flowering complete, five weeks to go. Oh mama, this is my favourite plant on the go. It seems to so well with LST and multibranches. Lots of distinct tops. Nice white pistils with trichomes coming. Most recent irrigation was water.
Day 140 for Trainwreck. Five weeks of flowering complete, four weeks to go. You can see the ongoing fade as we are nearing the end, past halfway. A couple days ago I fed 0-10-10 Alaska Morbloom, a popsicle stick dip of blackstrap molasses and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag). Loving the buds, bulking up, lots of trichomes.
Day 147 for Trainwreck. Six weeks of flowering complete. Three weeks to go. This plant is looking fantastic. Bulbous buds that are dripping. One of my better grows in awhile. (Easy to clone too, might I add). The smell maybe not that notable. I’m onto just water until the end.
Day 154 for Trainwreck. Seven weeks of flowering complete, two weeks to go. Just finishing up now with water, fading away. I’ll probably have the option to harvest at any point in the last week. The resin is very sticky on this one, even at this point.
Day 161 for Trainwreck. Eight weeks of flowering complete, one week to go. Just water of course as I continue to flush. The buds are really getting covered in trichomes in part thanks to turning on my output ventilation. Even though my hygrometer measures mid percent, its probably location, turning the fan on has done all plants well.
Day 165 for Trainwreck. Nine weeks of flowering complete, this is the window! Things really frosted up this week. These buds are coated in resin, the first really kicka** plant I’ve had in awhile. Can’t wait to try it. Flushed today and its sitting in dark waiting. Smell is like sweet must?
This is Trainwreck by Native Seed Company, who are not on Growdiaries. Grew this from a single seed that was gifted to me. Only had one issue during growing, amongst a generation, but actually recovered this one. I was able to bring it back to health and flower at strength.
Pretty resistant strain that seems to grow well. Very clonable, easy roots. This will probably integrate into a rotation easily.
The smells during growing were pungent as the flowers got plump. Just like a musty/musky herb smell. Subtle and background in the tent, not the overtones.
When drying and consuming, the flavour came out stronger - that strong, deep flavour profile that you know will stay with cure. Its like sour musk with a twist of sweet. Not a fancy flavour strain, but that isn’t to say this flavour isn’t elite. Trainwreck would only bow out to really exotic flavours and strains, and would be better than most others.
On top of good growing and flavour, the effects are great! A little bit of both worlds I find, maybe a bit leaning sativa. Gets me stoned, puts me to sleep, mixes well with other strains, just overall great in every way.
You get the sense by now that I’ve hit another one I really like. I would consider this 9.5/10, but if I nail another of similar quality it would be perfect score in my eyes. It has checked every box.
No problems here. Gave only water and flushed for awhile, made sure it got a dark cycle before harvest. Process: wet trim, bud wash, hang. Two step washing process: rinse the buds in baking soda/lemon juice/water mix; rinse in water.
Solid execution on the adjusted feeding schedule. You fixed her up so well. She's not only alive but looks happy and healthy. Congrats with this girl, specifically. You didn't give up on her and here you are with a great little specimen😊
Cheers man and good job👍. You done real good by her.
Edit: running through several of your updates. You didn't just fix this one up, you did a hell of a job with multiple girls. Again, great job. Good Farmer you are👍👍👍
Giving you a hard time already eh? I hope she grows out of these issues for you, brother. I'm sure everything will balance out eventually, just might be stunted a bit. She will live! I have faith! (Not to late👍)
Good grows Beans!
