My First Grow: The Cannabristening

Hello everyone! This will be my first grow. I am going to do my best to document my journey as a new grower to maybe help some new growers in the future! --SETUP-- 600W MH/HPS HID Lamp w/ Cooled Hood 6in Exhaust Fan/Carbon Filter 24" x 48" x 72" Grow Tent 70/30 Coco Coir/Pearlite mix (double buffered) CANNA Coco A+B CaliMagic (used for buffering) Solo Cups --> 3gal Fabric Pots --GERMINATION-- I germinated the seeds on 1/5/20 by soaking them in a glass of water for ~24 hours then transferring into moist paper towel in ziplock baggies for another 24 hours, storing in a warm and dark place. I germinated 3 seeds of each strain because I am being extra careful with this grow and want to select the best possible plant. I will grow all 6 plants in solo cups for the first weeks to get an understanding of the fastest growing seeds/ideal phenotypes before selecting one plant to continue growing of each strain. After germination, the strains already started showing differences: Barney's Farm LSD: 0.5" taproots Seedsman White Widow: 1" taproots --SEEDLINGS-- The germinated seeds were then moved into solo cups filled with medium. For the first week, I added water once the medium felt dry to my first knuckle (which happened 4 times) with light nutrients (per the schedule provided by Canna) pH'ed to around 6.0. The White Widow sprouted on days 3 and 4, and the LSD sprouted on days 4 and 5. By the end of the week, Humidity was all over this week as I try and figure out how to run the tent. During the night, the tent is a solid 70-80% RH because I let it recycle air once the light is off. Otherwise, my humidifier can't provide enough humidity to keep up with the exhaust fan, so the humidity drops to between 30-50% RH depending on ambient. Temperature stayed between 72 degrees F and 82 degrees F. The first day the lamp was at 600 W but it seemed like a little much for the little sprout so I turned it down to 400 W. After this, all of the sprouts are happily growing and stretching minimally. To maximize yield I will do my best to grow the plant short and flat. With only 72" of tent to work with vertically, and a minimum light distance of 16", my goal is to veg the plants out to a height of about 20" - 24". All in all, a resounding success with a 100% sprouting rate on my first 6 plants! I can't wait for the next few weeks!
