Welcome to my first grow Journal! I just finished planting my freshly popped California Orange by Southern Oregon Seed Company! I'm excited to grow this strain out, as I've heard nothing but positive things from friends. There's a high likelyhood that you'll see grow techniques such as Topping, and LST in this diary. It's one of my favorite parts of growing. I am also limited to growing space size, and quantity so these techniques aid in a higher yield. I encourage you to follow along, and ask questions along the way!
Week two, I transplanted the Cali Orange from her solo cup into a 1 gal felt pot. I'm using a smaller, 1 gallon pot due to height/size constraints. I have noticed that she's a little lighter than I'd like, and have been giving food accordingly. I will say as far as growth is concerned I'm happy with everything so far. It's also worth noting that most of these pictures are from within the tent with a 4500k light, which is very white/blue which I believe makes the plants look likghter than they really are, as you can see one of the pictures outside of the tent she's not nearly that pale. All in all a good week, toying with the idea of topping. I may instead just do some freestyle LST when she grows a couple more nodes.
Alright so this week was an interesting one. I decided last minute that I wanted to chop her down and do some training. So, although I did let her grow a bit taller than I wanted before chopping, I did the thing, and I'm sticking to it. She's bouncing back quickly though, spreading the growth out nice and low horizontally Once each chute is long enough I'll let them grow a bit vertically, during this time I'll also be cleaning the chutes up since the fan leaves grow quite large on this plant. I also swapped over to Greenleaf Nutrients "MEGA CROP" I'm hoping for good things from this bad boy as it's a simple to use 1 part nutrient. I guess we will see. I'll be letting Permafrost catch up to her before flipping them so she may be vegged longer than usual. Anyway, another week down!
Week 4 training still going well. Not sure when I'll be doing the flip, probably have to be relatively soon. She is growing pretty damn fast on a day to day. Trying to keep her from getting bushy so I can get some growth on some of the chutes. Enjoying the GreenLeaf Nutrients lineup so far. Until next week
Still going well, she's growing nice and wide. This is the first week of 12/12 so I'm expecting some explosive growth here. Loving the strain so far, easy to grow.
Very happy with this plant, in only a 1 gallon pot too! Managed to get a ton of tops, and keep some great penetration due to defoliation. Buds forming nicely. Got some time left for sure, but I'm happy so far!
Alright, so in the last week a few things happened. I dusted both Cali O and Permafrost with some G13xHP pollen. Bad news is that there's no guarantee that the pollen is good still. My source says he had no luck with his pollen. Looks like we may have stored it incorrectly. Live and learn. Fingers crossed though. It'll be awesome if it takes for some seed stock/future projects. That aside training has prettymuch finished up on this plant. I didn't go too extreme on LST which I've done from time to time. I'm happy with the size of the plant though for being in only a 1 gallon. I just need these buds to fatten up :)
Amazing yield. 93 grams in a 1gallon felt pot! California Orange is covered in trichomes, smells amazing, tastes amazing, and is overall a great day smoke.
Overall I'm very happy with this seed, as well as the growing experience and harvest. California Orange is very happy to be trained, and was easy to grow. The bud sites were very stacked, and the yield was incredible at 93 grabs in a 1 gallon pot in a 2'x2' grow space with another plant! The plant tastes and smells great, and the high as wonderful. It's not too strong, and makes a great daily smoke.
Dude!! do you have an IV going straight into the branches with steroids? HOLY CRAP!!!!!!! Thats a beautiful plant...Well Done..Me being a rookie, but I gotta ask, did you harvest early on purpose so prevent that couch lock effect?...This is one of the most beautifully structured plants I have ever seen...
@RonnieB, Dude your comment totally made my night. Got a good chuckle out of it too. :D To answer your question though, yeah you nailed it. Decided to harvest a little early because I'm a chronic smoker, and wanted this strain to stay as true to 50/50 as possible so that I could smoke on it all day without it hindering work or other things. Thanks again for the awesome comment and kind words. I appreciate them greatly.
