A few weeks late to the party with this diary. A little back story first. I was given most of my equipment as a "take it or leave with nothing" loan repayment. It was brand new and I have the space to use it. So I built a room and started researching. I bought some seed packs from crop kings from a local supplier and headed to the grow store for everything else I needed. I was planning on keeping notes on paper but found an app that keeps track of everything quite neatly last week. So unfortunatley I dont have any pictures of my girls before week 3. That shit has changed. Keeping track of the progress and looking at how they grow from week to week has definitely been one of the more rewarding parts of this journey so far.
So I started by setting up 3 fem seeds of each, Green Crack, Purple Kush, and Crown Royale. Of those, 7 started tap roots. After planting in red solo cups with promix hp I lost one more to my impatience ( pulled the head off trying to remove the shell after it sprouted). That left me with 3 crowns, 2 cracks and one lonely PK. For the purpose of this journal I will be following the Purple Kush only. Weeks 1 and 2 I fed 1ml/l of the 3 part AN nutes with calmag added. I'm using RO water as my tap water is heavily chlorinated, hence the calmag supplement. I
potted up from the solo to a 4 liter pot in the 2nd week. The cup was well rooted. The middle of week 3 I topped her at the 3rd node. By this time my AN nutes were bumped up to 2ml/l. (Note on my light schedual. I think I would rather run the 1000 watt mh light for only 18-6 rather than 20-4 but my rooms in an unheated garage and I'd end up having to run a 1000 watt heater when the light is off anyways).
This PK recovered well from the topping. Being my first grow it was a difficult thing to do. (cutting the healthiest part of the plant off) but seeing her bounce back so well in a week is a relief. Roots started searching out of the vents in the bottom of the pot around the middle of the week. So my impatience took control and I decided to pot up into 4 gallon pots. The roots weren't quite as filled in as I had hoped but she didnt miss a beat with her growth. I'm thinking that the 1 gallon pots were unnecessary and will probably skip that stage in the future. Next week I'll get everything I need to start some light LST work.
This girl wants to grow. Shes stretching out well after her multiple LST sessions through the week. She got a light defoliation this week and it was barely noticeable. Her nutes were moved to full strength. Low temps are suckimg the humidity out of the air. I added a heater and am spraying 3 times a day. Hoping to not have to pick up a humidifier.
This girl is really taking shape. Shes starting to get a nice crown around the perimeter. The middle nodes are playing catch up and gaining ground due to constantly stretching longer nodes to the outside. Theres been almost no vertical growth in the last 2 weeks as it's all been forced to the outside. I'm going to stop stretching her now and let her grow vertical for a week before I turn her. One of her roommates showed some slight signs of nute burn so I cut the whole room back to 3/4 strength.
Low temps and humidity were a constant struggle this week. -25 degree weather set in and stayed for most of it. My RH hit 8% 😲 so I added a heater and a propane stove to boil water. A few hours and a few gallons of water twice a day helps with the heat and the RH. plus the added c02 from the propane stove is a bonus.
I'm excited to get this girl into flower. Looking at all the nug-porn on this site has me envious.
