Greetings! I recently helped my father move, and in the attic we found a bunch of stuff from the past. Among these things were a glass container with cannabis seeds. He told me that they were from a guy who supplied their village with (shitty) pot when he was a teenager, and they were at least 40 years old. I took a few seeds and didn't expect them to even germinate. I sanded the seed slightly and soaked it for 15 hours in lukewarm tap water (pH 7.5) and put it in a paper towel and in a ziploc bag at 28th of november 2019. It's been almost 2 months but it finally happened -- a tap root has emerged! January 22: Seed successfully sprouted into a seedling. Transplanted the jiffy into a 1L container with moist peat moss and covered it with a plastic cup. Let's call it Day One and see where it goes! Day 2: Got home from work and found a yellowing and halfway wilted seedling. I removed the jiffy from the peat moss and the seedling from the jiffy, cleansed with tap water and put it back into an almost dry jiffy. Crossing my fingers! Day 3: Plant CPR seems to have worked. Seedling is getting its green color back and no longer fighting just to stay upright. Day 4: Doing perfectly well again. Day 5: Watering 10ml every 6 hours. Day 6: Another attempt at transplanting into an actual pot. Let's hope it doesn't yellow up like the last time :) Day 7: It survived the night in its new home. Looks like we have a working setup for the next few weeks.

Second week done! Another photoperiod plant is finishing up in the same tent, only giving this little baby a 10 hour light schedule. Luckily, this, too, is 100% a photoperiod plant since the seed is from before Ruderalis was commercially being bred into known strains. No autoflower veg restrictions! S/he is taking a liking to his/her new soil. No issues at all except slow growth which should be fixed when the current Bubba's Gift is finished in a week or so.

Finally got around to chop down the other photoperiod, giving this little fella a much needed 20/4 schedule. Repotted it into a 3L pot and started feeding with 1/4 strength BioBizz recommended schedule. The internodal spacing is crazy tight, making it a compact plant -- a typical sign of Indica, right?

Sex revealed: female! Last week's final day, I gave her a slightly bigger pot - 3 liter/~.8 gal - and now she's really taking off. As I am unsure of her genetics and effects, I'm not gonna let her take up a whole lot of my precious indoor room for growing medicine, therefore she'll stay in this container throughout flower. Do you have any idea of what her genetic origins may be? Considered topping/FIM/main-line, but I think I'm just gonna let her roll the way she wants to, as to fully appreciate her old school way.

Grow Questions

I have the heat stress under control (reduced heat, increased lamp distance, increased RH%), but the leaves are also showing signs of imbalanced nutrients -- can anyone please help? It looks like CalMag/S issue, but I'm not sure.

Not noticing any issue leaves look perfectly fine ... If this was a cal-mag issue the young leaves would be yellow, but the veins would still be green or the part between veins would be yellow.

Big week for this little girl -- I transplanted her into a 10L pot and pseudo-mainlined her into near oblivion. I have several autoflowers going in the same tent, so instead of keeping this girl in an ever-stretching vegetative state for another 2-3 weeks, I decided to top her aggressively and save 7 clones. Some of the leaves got ravished by a stray vaccuum cleaner; they're not signs of bugs. Changes to environment: 3L -> 10L 70% RH -> 60% RH

She's finally getting over the extreme stress of being aggressively topped and repotted in the same day. Perhaps I should've been a little more careful, but it seems OK for now. I topped her again to branch out even more, counting 23 small tops. Clones are starting to show tiny roots. When I have all 4 current girls harvested, I'll sanitize the living shit out of every single cubic inch of the grow tent and do a full run of clones scrog'd. Health wise, she's doing alright. She is super picky about heat and airflow, though; turning up leaf spikes regardless of lamp height, RH%, temperature or fan time.

She is still super temperamental and flips out over the tiniest fluctuation in the environment. I am not looking forward to flowering her for that reason, but I'm sure that the end product will be decent if all goes somewhat well. Genetic is clearly sativa. Look at those long, slim fingers. Pure sativa, I'd say. No expressed smell at all, but when rubbing the branches it smells very skunky and piney, much more so than my other growing plants. Will flip to 12/12 next week, when the other autoflowers in the tent have begun their stretch.

Having the neighbouring autoflowers finally entered the flowering state, I flipped the tent to 12/12. Let's see how well this girl takes that relatively big change of environment; ordinarily she freaks out about every single miniscule change. Not a lot of stretching yet, but that's probably because of the very tight mobility restrictions due to tied-down limbs of main-line. Health wise, she's doing almost perfectly. Rusty tips are handled: she responds well to the added GHE Micro. Environment changes: Lights: 20/4 -> 12/12 pH: 7.5 -> 6.0

Transitioning into flower, she's starting to stretch a little bit. Still only by an inch or two, but I'm sure she'll take off soon enough. Temperatures have been cooler than expected and I haven't compensated with artificial heating. Even with the cooler temps, she's starting to stink up the tent -- good stuff! Other than that, she's doing quite well. No changes in environment since last update, but I have upped the nutrients a bit to comply with the recommended schedule.

I expected this girl to flower just as fast as any "modern" strain would. She's taken ~3 weeks of 12/12 just to form budsites and show pistils. Lesson learned. Rusty tips are back, but I suspect they come from light stress. She is a picky little chick. How the tent is filled right now, there's simply no way to sufficiently accomodate her requirements. Let's hope she won't be too bitchy about it...

Almost a month into flowering and she's finally starting to show some actual flowers. As the flowers' size increases, so does her thirst -- 'tis doubled in a single week. The sativa genetics shine bright!

By this point, I really wish I'd mainlined it properly instead of topping two different-level nodes over and over. The irregularities are showing. Next time! No change in feeding schedule. No change in environment.

A couple of occupants of the grow space have been evicted, giving this girl a much needed opportunity to be in the spotlight and spread out. I helped her branch out by tightening the tie-downs further -- she now has a wider, more even canopy. Feeding changes: - BioBizz Bloom (0ml/L -> 2ml/L) Environmental changes: - Temperature (Night: 15 -> 17; Day: 20 -> 22) - Distance to lamp (30 -> 25)

Week 15. Harvest

Happy Harvest Day!
Rated
5/10

[Grow] In her vegetative phase, she grew extremely well. Shot through the roof, outperforming my expectations. This meant I had to train her drastically - pseudo-mainline was the tool of choice. It worked well. Flowering phase was tedious, very slow going. She ended up being a crazy purple and beautiful specimen. Throughout the grow, she reacted strongly to minute changes in light/feed schedule and environmental variations. Full sativa, long-ish and airy buds. A bitch to trim -- I ended up throwing away ~200g larf (wet). Smells like lemon cake frosting and exotic candy. [Potency] Low. A full oven of a Mighty usually knocks me on my ass when testing these samples, but I'm only mildly high by this. Underwhelming cerebral and body high, but somehow the high feels... full. Whole. Complete. Well-rounded and smooth. - THC is around 7-15%. [Vape] 160C: Flavours of sweet citrus flower with mint/eucalyptus undertones. Yummy stuff! - Mellow and carefree - Relaxation of chest and shoulders - Indica-like high, not cerebral at all at this temperature - Paranoia (mild) 180C: Flavours of tangy lemon. Slightly woody - Mellow - Relaxation of chest, shoulders, neck and face - Headache (mild) - Dry eyes 210C: Flavours of sour nuts. Not that kind, you crazy person - Cerebral high. Almost energetic - Couch-lock - Dizzy - Feels like having drunk a couple of beers - Dry eyes and mouth

What a nice journey that was, to grow out an actual oldschool and unnamed strain. Can't wait to treat my dad to some weed from his youth. I probably could've let her go another week or two for major amber, but I liked the trichomes as they were at harvest time. No couch-locks for me, please.

So my dad just came over last week with a little glass bottle that has seeds in it. He said he found them in the basement in an old stash box, and probably 30+ years old. I told him there's no way they will germinate. Guess I need to try!!!

@Locnar2112, That story sounds familiar. Seeds can last for a surprising amount of time. Good luck on germinating those tiny sparks of hope, my good man/woman :) Don't give up hope if it doesn't germinate right away -- this one took almost two months.
